Shit like this needs to happen. It’s important. When companies start going off the rails with their generic gameplay, predatory business practices, terrible marketing decisions, bad budgeting, toxic DEI practices… companies go under, and it’s a good thing, teaching companies to do things properly.
Isn't it the Governments that are encouraging companies to do this to their games?

I would LOOOOOVE the novel irony of Ubisoft ending on AC:Shadows because an AC Japan is something we AC fans have been asking for since we were kids (we're now at our 20-30s) and they're fully aware how highly demanded that is. But they've been edging us for so long that they probably think they can just release it when they become desperate for money to survive and buy themselves a second chance. Nope. Please let this game fail as a lesson for Game companies who forgot that video games are a piece of art and trying to treat it otherwise will lead to worse financial outcome.

Now look at them? 2025 they will file for bankrupty.
They already had proven good IPs for action/adventure/RPG/tactical shooter games: Prince of Persia, AC, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon. All they had to do was make good games out of those. With rare exceptions, they've been failing for more than a decade.
There is 1 solid proof that Yasuke wasnt a samurai nor a "legendary warrior". And its very simple one. Nobody wrote about him. There are tons of history written about samuraia and öegendary warriors. If he was one, they would have written about his deeds like Americans wrote about Billy the Kid or Jesse James. Only written deed of him was that people tried to wash his skin color off since they thought he had covered himself with ink.

This was deliberate self sabotage on Ubisoft's behalf.
Desmond wasn't related to Bayek. We only got to experience his memories since Layla found his mummified remains, so there was enough DNA to insert into the Animus. I don't think Bayek even had any more children.

I think we (people in "our side" of the argument) very often delude ourselves into believing this controversy and the reason we reject this game is different to what's actually the reason. We like to think that we are upsed at "historical innacuracies" or graphics or combat or bamboo slicing or whatever. But what we are truly upsed is that we are forced to play a black guy and a woman in a samurai game. The truth is, we just want to play as a japanese man in our samurai game, and there's nothing wrong about it. The other side convinced us that our position is racist, so we try to justify our rejection of the game from other "non racist" angles. But the truth is, there is nothing wrong to want a product to be a certain way. We are simply done with this forced DEI policies and every game being a political statement or a way for a bunch of inmature developers to lecture us on morality and politics. They don't get to dictate what games we should or shouldn't play. We are the ones who get to tell them what games they should make. Because we are the majority and their customers, we are the ones with the money, we are the ones paying their salaries so WE get to tell them how we want OUR games. Our reasoning and our wants cannot be moraly judged by anyone. We just want what we want, and it's a developers job to deliver what their customers want. Ignoring what we tell them to do and doing the complete oposite is, in itself, enough justification for us to be mad and boicoting their game. We don't need to justify our position. We are their boss, we just tell them what to do and they have to obey, whether they like it or not. Always remember: We are the customers and the customer is always right.

It got delayed to March 18 for extra polish. Then it got indefinitely delayed. It took a very long time to hear about any new release date, all we knew was that it was still coming. Then last year we finally got a new release window. It's coming out sometime in 2026. Keep in mind, this game is a remake that was originally months away from release 4 years ago and now it has had a cumulative delay of at least 5 years, which is long enough to make a new AAA game from scratch. @@ZeroBeat1 isn't the studio that was supposed to make that game one of the studio (I mean, branch of ubisoft) that got shut down a few month ago ? After all this time of delaying it I think the project is dead for real now.
That guy trying to talk up ACS by showing its last gen bamboo physics is basically the Harry Sisson of gaming. Wonder what/how much Ubisoft paid him.
You know what's really sad? Some of them aren't even being paid and are just being industry shills for the sake of potential kickbacks in return for loyalty. The whole industry operates on a system of nepotism, there was that game designer who got his job purely because he was a games journalist and they knew him, many such cases everyone is finding out about now.
More like ps3 era. Bamboo clips through itself and Jorge Floid, the cuts are all preprogrammed breaks, not cuts where the sword passes, and they all start disappearing a couple of seconds after being cut. It's a bad joke, especially with the budget. Just goes to show the duhvershidee squad sucks at everything.
Yet Bushido Blade did this on the PS1 in 1997.
@@lethn2929 Yup. There's a lot of those people in most communities inside and outside of gaming. They are usually the reason why there is so much fighting going on between the fans themself.
We should also take into account actual bot comments that have been used to prop up games and movies lately, they tend to act the same way as these shills and I wouldn't be surprised if they were made to mimic them with all the emojis and anti-argument replies.
So glad I can enjoy Ghosts of Tsushima ... 1000% better than this upcoming pile of crap from a soon to be defunct studio ...
At least they are right. We are use to not owning any of their games..
Black Flag is definitely the best.
They supposedly have a remaster/remake of it slated for after shadows drops, they knew this was coming haha
That game was actually amazing, can they just rehire that team for one more game or something 😢
@@zdono It wasn't amazing. It was good. We just didn't have any decent pirate type games at that time (still don't) outside of a couple like Sid Meier's Pirates!
The first 4 AC games along with Brotherhood and Revelations were all good. It's only after Rogue or Unity when the games became really bad.
@HazyDayz123 that's not always true. Nostalgia is more powerful than modern gameplay. If you told me I can play GTA6 or Vice City again I'd rather play Vice City
They pay millions to "professional" consultants and make mistakes most Japanese citizens can identify quickly.
And they still spending money to erase the existence of the Japanese who point out their mistakes.
'Professionals' with blue hair, a major in gender studies, a dress and an adams apple 😂
These consultants are definitely fraudin😢
@@carboy101Their only expertise is in wokeness and since companies cannot disagree with wokeness due to HR putting pink slips to their heads. Even when it's not right, they cant call it out inside the company due to who said they should do this. And upoer management is usually blind to the full extent until they have to put actual wight on the game being good then see the rot has caused the pillar to cave in on itself.
Thousands of samurai throughout Japan's history, but no, I chose an obscure and uncertain character just because he's black...
Imagine spending 3k dollars into a Japanese culture specialist to avoid historical mistakes. Imagine spending 50k for having him or her working with you 12 monthes. Imagine encouraging Japanese to tell what is not right with the game then rectify it.
Im sure they did it, but they hired following the DEI agenda and not for talent.
@mifunebrevar That is an even worse scenario because it means that they used to have a way of developping games that prevents historically mistakes but willingly decided that it is no more necessary. I am not an historian but my sister offered me for Christmas a book about Assassin's Creed through history so if the book exists I am 100% sure the AC serie was once appreciated by historians.
50k to hire frauds who torpedoed their careers when all this became public
Should have hired Dr Stephen Turnbull. He was the consultant on shogun total war has written many books on Japan and samurai and did the netflix show on the samurai. He was also my lecturer at leeds university

Ubisoft’s biggest mistake with this game was going against the Japanese gamers about authenticity because that hole seems to get deeper the more Ubisoft double downs on their stance.
DEI has never accurately represented the actual diversity of the world.
Ubisoft should get used to not owning a business anymore.
If AC: Shadows is "just a game", then Mein Kampf is 'just a book'.

Who gives a shit Afro Samurai is badass, and AC hasn’t been accurate since after 1 and 1 was like this isn’t what happened but we are fucking around. The guy was real he was a samurai but no he wasn’t a warrior he was just some dude the shogun fucked with and granted nobility because that’s what a samurai is a knight for lack of a better word. If the game is good it’s good, if it’s bad it won’t be because “OMG he wasn’t a real samurai”

The fact that they're marketing Yasuke as a real samurai is a bastardisation of history.
Honestly, I think the material resistance and weight of the bamboo are the least important things to fix with AC Shadows.
It’s an incredibly important detail to get right when you are playing a game about cutting things with a katana. All these little mis-steps add up to one large flop. Think of a great game, it is filled with small details that all help to add up to an amazing experience. The little things do matter.
@@Kamawan0 Sure, but overall it's still at the bottom of the list.
I enjoyed Assassin's Creed for many years, but i will not be buying or playing shadows at all. Ubisoft went too far with their dei agenda this time. Nobody wanted yasuke in this damn game at all!
But the biggest shock would come when one of the Assin"s Creed main development studio will shut down,
and now there's rumor about it for Quebec studio, the one responsible for Shadows.
that will be pure joy. not a shock.
Hearing Ubisoft is having a bad time always brightens up my day.
Genuinely
I bet they're regretting not choosing Hattori Hanzo.
Assassin's Creed has a history of giving every location in games a protagonist of that culture and nationality. Why on earth would you as a business, put in someone of a different heritage and nationality? Why not put in a real samurai from the era? Japan had so many.
To be fair, if it was a culture with a lot of diversity back in the time it's taken from then it wouldn't be an issue to chose a person that doesn't have the same heritage than the original race for that place. But they literally chose a country and a time where their would be at most a literal handful of people from that race. You couldn't be further from the the average person from that time in this area if you tried.
@Ruchunteur Japanese people don't like it, historians don't like it. It's literally as if you take Russia in the 1800s and put in a Mexican as the protagonist. It's just a really odd and divisive thing to do. Everyone knows that Japan takes it's culture and history very seriously and respect their heritage. And even here in the Philippines we know that the activists working in game industry don't like white or Asian people. I'm personally assuming they stuck in a black man in this game and timeframe on purpose to send a message and trying to rewrite history of Japan.
@@SurgLuke I know, I agreed with you. I was just pointing out that it's not using a person from a different heritage that was the issue but to take a person that isn't representative of the time. If there was a assassin's creed where the protagonist was sent back to 2025 in the USA, I wouldn't be shocked if they use someone that is not white as there has been a prominent diversity of race in the USA for quite a long time. But using someone like Yusuke that isn't representative at all for that time was stupide.
@Ruchunteur I also agreed with you. I'm just honestly shocked at the poor business decisions your country has made for some time now. It's as if your country got hijacked to be honest.
Ooooooooooooor ditch the Samurai protag and focus on Assassins in an Assassin’s Creed game.
They wanted so badly to have an African lead in an Assassins Creed game that they overstepped into Japanese territory.
Had they just waited to make an Assassins Creed set in Africa, maybe even postponed Hexe to green light an Africa setting, nobody would have cared. People wouldn’t have been laid off, the company wouldn’t be in shambles, and we would have gotten another big expensive boring glitchy season pass rpg AC game that wouldn’t have completely failed like Shadows is now.
Literally all they had to do was wait. But we wuz kangs. We wuz samurai. We wuz everything.
It makes me sick when I hear Western studios make JP chars in games set in Japan speak English with a limp JP accent. Arent they speaking their own language in their own land?
I hate dubs. Just fucking read the subtitles
I dont want to play a game where the setting is integral to the story and then have it disjointed by accented English
Imagine if every character in Tekken spoke English, how weird and disrespectful that’d be
Watching that comparison clip at the end it's absolutely maddening how Ubisoft has dropped the ball and consistently gotten worse
Can't spell DIE without DEI
The even bigger issue is the gameplay looks like trash. Ubisoft STILL hasn’t realized that the last 4 games with enemies having levels, healthbars, damage number scaling and very few takedown animations is what tanked the franchise
1:20 to be fair, skyward sword had nice bamboo slicing in their game in 2011 and I was impressed, but it wasn't why I bought the game
Been that way since Windwaker
@JutinSux I have to disagree with you there, skyward sword had a minigame that was more in depth than the bamboo cutting in wind waker (truth be told I don't remember any bamboo cutting in WW).

The first parts always denial
The Japanese being mad about a game inaccurately depicting their involvement in slavery is actually crazy. The Japanese were some of the most brutal people in history.
Ubisoft is getting used to not owning a company. Gamers are still used to owning games. Funny how that worked out.
Whoever's idea it was to put a giant dude in samurai armor as a main character for an assassin creed game is the opposite of genius smh
Reminds me of oblivions brotherhood. There was a Assassin who was a Ork with a huge Battle axe. Pretty much just as a joke though, whenever you asked him how to approach a mission he was like
"Draw your axe, do a battle cry and charge towards them"
It's such an odd choice. If you think about it, they could STILL have gone with Yasuke as the protagonist. Just make him a ninja disguised as a retainer so no one pays attention to him and he can be, ya know, an *assassin* ? And FFS, lose the bling and rap music.
10:05 You mean wear things Jesus wouldn't be seen dead in? That ain't MY Christianity.
Jesus likes jokes though
Protestants and their christianity changes every generation, also it isn't yours you are a servant too your faith not its master.
The regalia of the Catholic and Orthodox churches are a physical representation of their connections to history, the fact you associate it with prestige and power is a compliment to the longevity of these organisations rather than the rootless forever evolving Protestant churches that long ago abandoned Christian morality for baseless feel good nonsense that Atheists will approve of.
In the end the traditions of the church fathers IS the faith, Protestants are just various stages of apostates and nothing more.
Well the god in your Christianity also ordered all the men, women, children, and dogs to be murdered in the city of Jericho. And uh, I don't worship mass murderers. Keep it to yourself.
lol when Asmongold said: ‘never seen a game evolved backwards’ had me laughing
So they will fail with the game that has easiest assassin's creed concept. Because Japan ninja setting is the most desired game of the franchise, and somehow they managed to completely screw it up
I am surprised they didn’t just go full ninja. The samurai feels out of place in a game about assassins. There is so much history behind ninjitsu, should have been a no-brainer, and they could have avoided the nonsense with yasuke.
@@Kamawan0 Yep. "Retainer Yasuke is a secret ninja" is such an obvious solution to all these problems it's painful. You still get your precious representation, it stays relatively historically accurate, you don't piss off a whole nation and it fits with your game style. Win-win-win.
The bamboo slicing shit is annoying as hell, Bushido blade was doing that on the PS1

The outfit clipping in 2025 is embarrassing.
Outfit clipping is ONLY embarrassing if you are a AAA game studio. (Or in Ubisofts case AAAA.)
If you a budget studio, or an indie dev, outfit clipping is fine. Would rather it not be their, but it's not a big deal when you dont have the money to focus on smaller issues like that.
@RaifSeverence Yes, I agree!
The only thing that will save Ubisoft is if each fan boy buys hundreds if not thousands of copies of this game. This game would have to sell like GTA 5 or Mine Craft, and no Ubisoft game ever came close to that...
They should call their game Ubisoft: Shadows at this point

The biggest fail was skull and bones, like seriously how can you even do that wrong, it was basically taking assassin's Creed black flag and scaling it to be more pirate centered and adding more content, it would have crushed if they just did that with a new engine.
Singaporean Government was too out of touch how game development works tbh
They spend $800 millions on that game and the reason they had to use Unreal 5 because they fired all competent people that knew how to use old engine and there was no one who could teach new people how to use it
