    I’m so happy to hear the 8s feel like the 6s. Loved the 6s (had at least five pairs) and returned the 7s.

      @Action_Dad I was happy with the fit of the 8s right after I put them on. The 6 was fantastic! That green/yellow pair in my video are my last pair of them. I bought a few pairs too. It will be tough to part with that final pair once they live out their trail miles.

    Man I miss the 4.5's; I feel like that was the 'Peak'. The 6's were pretty good. Returned my 7's, but maybe I will try these instead

      @matjobin  7 месяцев назад

      @mikewest95 I feel the same way about the 6 like you do about the 4.5. The 6 has been one of my favorites over the years. There were things I liked and didn’t like with the 7. I’ve been happy with the 8s so far. It feels more like the 6 with some of the things I liked about the 7 like the updated traction. Let me know how the 8s work out for you if you give them a try. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

    Nice overview. I'm with you on the ground feel ( I wear Superiors). The Timps got vibram megagrip soles. Hoping they bring to the lower stack height models. I miss the drain holes on my Superiors as well!

    • @matjobin
      @matjobin  6 месяцев назад

      @OutdoorOperator Thanks. Definitely appreciate the ground feel out there on the trail. I tried the Superior in the past, but it didn't work for my foot unfortunately due to the fit. Agreed! I'm hoping they offer the LP and others with Vibram in the future. Missing the drainage holes with the Lone Peak too. They worked great on my favorite 6s and earlier iterations.

      @OutdoorOperator 6 месяцев назад

      @@matjobin it looks like they put drain holes on the bottom of the outsoles on the LP 7 & 8. I take it those don't work as well as the drain holes on the toe cap?

    • @matjobin
      @matjobin  6 месяцев назад

      @@OutdoorOperator Yeah, I still prefer the drain holes that the 6 had in the toe box. They helped in my opinion. I have found the 8s to dry a little quicker than the 7 though. That’s most likely due to the change in the upper.

  • @hikerwoody182
    @hikerwoody182 7 месяцев назад

    I've been really impressed with the 7s and have 600 miles on my current pair, so happy that they've remained similar. The drying time and how they dump water would be an interesting test comparing 7s and 8s

    • @matjobin
      @matjobin  7 месяцев назад +1

      @hikerwoody182 Nice! I haven’t reached that mileage yet with my 7s just because I prefer the 6s more. Got around 800 miles out of a pair of them. I’ve been enjoying the 8s so far and still feel they are a nice blend between what I liked with the 6 and the updated traction that were on the 7. I’m looking forward to seeing how well the 8 does with drying. I found the 7 to take a little longer than the 6. So far so good with the 8, though my experience with them in wet conditions is still pretty limited. They have dried pretty fast in slushy snow and one rainstorm I’ve been out on the trail in with them so far. I’m looking forward to future results and how they compare to the 6 and 7 after long term use.

      @matjobin  8 месяцев назад +2

      @wolfeadventures I’m hoping to get the 8s out on wet rock soon. We got about a foot of snow recently so I’m currently out with the Olympus 5 Mid GTX and everything is covered, but we’re expecting a very mild warmup and a lot of rain later in the week. I’ll put a short clip up on the channel with the 8s wet rock traction once I do. Stay tuned.

    спасибо за радостную новость. абсолютно согласен с автором в его размышлениях и предпочтениях относительно данной линейки лон пиков. 7 даже брать не стал, решил ждать 8. Нет ли ощущения, что у альтры нечëтные версии слабее (эксперементальнее) , чем чëтные?

  • @snowcrash512
    @snowcrash512 7 месяцев назад

    I think if they put the new Timp as their "hiker" shoe with its new outsole and then position the Lone Peak as a lighter faster version with some sort of Vibram compound it would be amazing, im just not impressed with Maxtrac. I think if they gave the Lone Peak something like Vibram Trek Evo it would be better in durability and grip without cutting into the Vibram Megagrip advantage/selling point of the new Timp.

    • @matjobin
      @matjobin  7 месяцев назад

      @snowcrash512 The updated Maxtrac on the last iteration and the current 8 is noticeably improved from the previous versions of the LP. It’s tough to compare much traction to a Vibram outsole though. Lone Peak with a Vibram sole would be my ideal shoe combo.

    • @matjobin
      @matjobin  6 месяцев назад

      @wolfeadventures I'm pretty happy with them. The shoe has been responsive, stable, and comfortable. It breathes much better than the 7 and dries pretty fast too. It's been nice having a shoe fit and feel similar to the 6, but have the improved traction of the 7. I'm looking forward to putting many miles on the 8s throughout this year and picked up another pair for when my current ones wear out.

    In the video, you mentioned Superior 5 and I was curios if you could comment a bit on the difference of these two models.

    • @matjobin
      @matjobin  7 месяцев назад

      @AlexandruCEne I had tried the Superior 5 for a bit, but it didn’t work for me. Not that it’s a bad shoe. It just didn’t work as well for my foot as the Lone Peak and Olympus do. It will differ for everyone though. The midfoot and heel felt very tight and snug for me compared to a more comfortable but still secure fit with the Lone Peak. I also found the Superior to have a lower volume than the LP, which didn’t work for my foot either (even after trying to size up). The toe box was wider than the LP, and the shoe provided more ground feel with the lower stack height (21mm vs 25mm) which I did like. It still has the zero drop. I found the traction of the Superior to work well on hard pack and light to moderate terrain. The Lone Peak holds an edge with that for me, and it’s been a good all around shoe. It’s always been the most comfortable and has worked well for the applications I use it for most, backpacking and thru hikes. Though I do trail run a bit and will use it for that too. I think the Superior 6 is out now, but I haven’t tried that one due to my experience with the 5 and the fact that the Lone Peak works best for me.

      @@matjobin , thanks for your reply. I have the Superior 5, with lots of miles on it, and it's time to change it. I was wondering if I should try the LP now. Probably it's best to try the shoes first, and your feedback helped me a lot!

    • @nathan8418
      @nathan8418 8 месяцев назад +2

      The insole is not wider on wide sizes. They just add more volume to the upper with more fabric. It's definitely a more casual fit and really good for high volume feet.

    • @matjobin
      @matjobin  8 месяцев назад +1

      @lanceswanson9103 I had tried the wide in the past with the Lone Peak 5 and Lone Peak 6 out of interest. I haven’t tried it with the 7 though or the recently released 8. I found the entire shoe to be wider and too much for my foot. I believe the entire platform for the wide Lone Peak is wider, but could be wrong.

    I know these are not water resistant, but can it hold water if not a heavy rain?

    • @matjobin
      @matjobin  7 месяцев назад

      @cvetkovicslobodan It will absorb water pretty quickly, but I've been finding them to dry in a short timeframe so far when active. Faster than the Lone Peak 7, and similar to the Lone Peak 6. Though the Lone Peak 6 still holds the edge with the drain ports. I found those to help displace water well.
