I like the attention to detail. Those boxes are often heavy to lift for the characters, but then we can see them move around as if they had almost no mass thanks to the inertial dampeners working.
It was a weekly series with limited budget and time for each episode. Cut them some slack.

It wasn't a situation Riker was comfortable with -- he saw it as part of his job to take the dangerous missions for his captain. But this was a situation that required a diplomatic approach, and no one handles diplomacy better than Picard.
Worf manhandled that styrofoam block like a champ.
To Worf's credit, he'd probably get beat up a lot less if they fired torpedoes more often in the first place.

The Star Trek franchise often recycled actors for different roles. Most directors and producers have "regulars" they like to cast for successive projects.
I just realized that almost everyone left the bridge. Who was left in charge? Some nameless mook ensign? Is Wesley in charge?

The lack of security cameras in Star Trek drives me crazy. We wouldn't accept this lack of information in a police procedural, let alone a scifi show. I could believe it if Marty Stu knocked out the cameras along with the guards, but to not have cameras at all just shows a deep lack of foresight into the kinds of stories that they were going to tell.
or it is the utopia ideal at work eliminating all contingency

The first enterprise (st: the search for spock) had cameras, and essentially a "black box"

I always assumed security cameras were just unreliable in Star Trek, like the footage could be modified easily we’ve seen that in TOS, but maybe it’s just really easy to hack into them to the point where they’re an unreliable source of information flat out.

So almost the entire exec bridge beams to the surface of a potential war zone envolving super soldiers and the away team bring a few lasers (troy rarely using one) and one robot. Do the red coat security team just start writing their wills?

I refuse to believe this exact conversation did not happen.
And I just realized the entire senior staff on bridge duty left without putting anyone in charge. There's a command structure, but unless an officer was at the helm, everyone remaining on the bridge appeared to be wearing a crewman uniform (Season 1-2 surplus).
Given how frequently Picard, Riker, and Data are on the bridge together, it stands to reason that there are long periods of time where all three of them are off duty at the same time. Who's in command then? Does the entire ship just shut down at night?
Best not to think too hard about a TV show.
@@jdfree49 That's what _officers_ are for. It's not Senior Staff...and grunts, with nothing in the middle. _Star Trek_ has even had episodes about the night watch.

Was Frakes having a bad leg day? Why else would he spend many scenes at Worf's station?
He strained himself doing the Riker maneuver over his bridge chair.
He had a back injury a number of years ago before he joined the cast. This is why he postures with one leg over Data’s station to ease the discomfort

It is a bit unbelievable that he knew exactly where to go in the ship to do the things he wanted to do.

Maybe it's just my head-canon, but I always was CERTAIN that that entire exchange walking down the corridor was for RIKER'S benefit!
Riker made his stance VERY clear in Encounter at Farpoint that he would obey ANY order from Picard, BUT he would always prioritize the Captain's safety over that!
So, by establishing the danger was low or at least "reasonable" in that exchange, Riker wouldn't try to prevent Picard from Beaming down to the planet.
Exactly! Notice the little look Riker gives after Picard says he's going down.
I always found it odd that TNG was the only series that mentioned Captains could not join away teams. you can excuse the Enterprise series because that rule had not been made up yet. we can probably exclude TOS also mostly because of William Shatner. However DS9 and Voyager took place in the same era as TNG and neither Sisco or Janeway were told they could not go on away missions and some of the away missions in the later part of DS9 were to fight major conflicts with the Dominion

How do you think an Angosian superman would fare against one of Khan's supermen?
Luck would determine it. The Angosian soldiers have been modified to be difficult to detect on sensors, etc. So it'd be a case of two very smart, cunning, and strong soldiers having to face off. Training would determine a lot as well. The Angosian solders have seen combat, but I guess Khan's people would have too.

It was always kind of silly how they needed to establish this man is designed to be super dangerous, and didn't quite know how to establish that by making him smart and strong. So they just kind of nerfed everyone on the ship.
That one nagging thing known as budget constraints.
I was worried Work wouldn't be able to move that styrofoam container off of him.

Worf lost every fight
I like how all the senior officers leave the bridge without designating an officer of the deck.
Riker didn't beam down to the planet, so he probably returned to the bridge shortly after that last clip.
There are hundreds of prisoners rioting! Which we can't show you because we live in one of those societies that has about a dozen people roaming around a couple rooms.
Extras are expensive, and this show was made on a shoestring budget.

Who had the bridge at 2.20? An ensign?
The ship's external sensors are down, so why not launch a shuttle or two, or even a probe or two that could use their sensors to transmit back to the Enterprise, or to a shuttle in the shuttle bay that can be directly linked to the ship's computer. Then they would have working sensors, not as good as the Enterprise sensors, but something! The writer's keep forgetting about the shuttles and runabouts aboard the Enterprise unless they need them for a specific storyline.
Look, if you don't want people to power your locked out transporter by powering it with a phaser, don't install a phase-shaped auxiliary power port on the control panel! Sheesh!

You are trying to play Chess against a Grand Master who is thinking six steps ahead of you.
More like two steps ahead and the Federation Pakleds think 0-1 steps ahead.
This show's magic can never be replicated. Why? It was essentially a patriarchy, Picard was the wise father figure, the paragon for Worf and Wesley and Geordie and the rest, the foil for Worf's tension with his own people. Cannot do patriarchies on tv anymore.
The Angosians should have created genetically enhanced soldiers to deal with their genetically enhanced soldiers.
Takeaway from this episode: does anyone ever consider what to do with the soldiers _after_ the conflict is over?
No, they’re regarded as disposable assets. 😔
The problem is that too many of them survive the conflict. Then they need retraining, healthcare, pensions....Forget about it. Let's just drape the flag over ourselves and use the military as a prop.
I've often wondered what Worf does after the mission is over, and he's been beaten by this weeks' bad guy, Change his training regimen? Try supplements?
