- Roadburn, the heaviest festival on Earth, is organized by the gentlest person in the Netherlands: Walter Hoeijmakers.
Roadburn, the world's leading festival for stoner rock, doom metal and psychedelic rock, is held every year in Tilburg, in the Netherlands. The majority of the visitors comes to the Netherlands from abroad, and not because they already planned to visit Amsterdam. To them, it is the most important festival of the year.
The festival - dominated by long hair, tattoos and serious beards - is run by the gentlest man in the world: Walter Hoeijmakers. Roadburn is a spiritual trip for him, and it is mainly thanks to his dedication and love that Roadburn has grown into a widely respected festival. In the documentary we see how much Roadburn means to him and what his influence in the scene is.
In 2014 we followed Walter before and during the Roadburn Festival and we spoke to Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Mike Scheidt (YOB) and the band Harsh Toke, one of Walter's favorites of that year.

ik vind het zelf niks maar Walter is geweldig. Ik wens hem het beste met de Corona.
i grew up in rotterdam when i was small. i heard venom, ocean, tank, maiden, angel witch.....etc......on an influential radio show run by hanneke kappen. she was an amazing and she would play some crazy metal music. this was back in the early 80's. the start of heavy metal. metal forces. tape trading etc.....haddock was the place for all the metal records. amazing times were had by me in rotterdam.

It's so funny to think GISM played there. The bloody, chair swingin', flame throwin', boys we'd all thought long gone and ascended to the Pedestal of Insta-cred knowledge they gift.
I like to think the very polite founder man had to make the first phone call to get that show going. Literaly phoning the ghosts of the past to see if the fires still burn.
