A bit late, but yeah, writing, doodling, maybe cut out illustrations from magazines/newspapers. There's all sorts of options that does not cost or have a very low prize. You could also wish for this kinda stuff for birthdays/Christmas etc, or gift cards at hobby stores if you want to handpick.
