Thank you, this was helpful! Just got a 2023 Husky 701 for the the same reasons you’ve stated. For me it’s being able to ride a lighter bike in more technical terrain from my house without having to truck or trailer it that I was not comfortable with on my BMW 1200GSA.

100% agree with the logic behind your route. All the so called "Aventure Bikes" are a way to heavy for everything beyond paved roads for most of the people. Light is the way to go for a solo rider and I went with a Husky FE501 last year. Yes, all the mods are expensive. But on the other hand, you get race proven and light designs capable to withstand the rough reality off the paved roads.
    Enjoying your thoughts 😀

There will always be a moment when you wish you had a different bike. My solution is to have 3 - Husaberg FE450, Husky 701 and now a KTM 990 Adventure. All modded up for less than the price of a new R1250GS!

    • @CykloGamonie

      Nice!
I used to own three bikes at the same time (with CRF 250 Rally, F850GS and some older F650GS), but I've found myself riding just one (CRF) for 95% of time. I only took GS when I needed to go for a really long and boring highway ride and I sold it upon return from that trip.
Yes, I am quite often thinking about adding another machine to the garage, but more and more often my thoughts are around Vespa, just for easy around town commuting. All other my key purposes are covered by 701, at least for now.
Thank you for the comment! Cheers.

Well played sir. I have an '18 300 XC, a '23 701 and a '14 Super T. Planning on selling a nicely modded '06 modded FZ1 and half heartedly planning on selling my '10 Husaberg FE 450. Have enjoyed ripping on the FZ1 for 17 years, but it is time to move on. On the other hand, if nobody buys the FE I won't be terribly disappointed 😆
One could reasonably argue that the 690/701 is too heavy to be a real dirt bike and not a great street bike, and that it has to be compromised by it's tires. All true I suppose, but darn it if my 701 isn't the most fun bike to ride. It does everything well enough that the possibilities to explore Colorado where I live are seemingly endless, and the engine, with some fueling and exhaust therapy, is so much fun on road and off.

Liked and definitely will subscribe bud, I’m glad I found this video because I’m actually been looking and YouTubing for about a week now trying to decide on what I want. I’ve always owned Harley’s and I’m just ready to move away from just highway miles and actually get off road. At first I was dead set on a 1290 but the more I’ve read and learned it’s just too big for what I want.

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  Год назад +1

Hey Bobby and thank you for the comment!
Let me share my story of getting from highway miles to off-road, maybe that could be helpful in your process.
I used to own the FZ6 Fazer and later the FJR1300. I was 100% pavement focused during my rides. Then I moved to XT660Z Tenere and F800GS to try some off-road and… I failed miserably. Those bikes were far too heavy for my low level of off-road experience.
First time I felt better off-road was on an F650GS - only because it was so low I was able to use my legs when in uncertain situations. But it was still heavy. And then I tried something lighter - CRF250 Rally. And it was a dramatic improvement in how I was able to ride off-road and learn so much more than on those heavy bikes.
701 Enduro is something in between my F850GS and CRF250 (already sold both) and I enjoy (almost) every minute on it. The only time I miss my GS is on highways.
So, if I could suggest something - please consider keeping your HD for all those moments you wish to have a smooth road ride, at least for a while. Get yourself something like a CRF300L and invest time in learning to ride off road on a light bike. I strongly believe this is the right way to move from pavement to gravel, sand, mud and rocks. You will feel much more confident on a small, light machine, than on a middleweight adv bike and you will learn much faster (and have much more fun along the way, I promise! 🙂
      All the best!

Denkuje bardzo za fajne video. What a great video and ideas for a new machine. I am in the same position having 2021 Honda CRF 300 Rally chasing in winter time in mountains around Palm Spring and Joshua Park. ( I am a snowbird living in summer in Czech and winter here in California). I am slowly but surely outgrowing my fabulous Honda. I will keep it, but plan to go on many BDRs in great west states before I get to old. Founding out how dangerous this bike is riding on freeways...topping around 70 mph and soft suspension that does not allow me to go faster on mountains road. I am looking around, liking many new bikes specially Triumph 900 Rally Pro, but like you have mentioned, the weight is my main issue too. I may actually buy Husky 701 back in Czech and try to rebuild it so nicely as you did. What a great work by man with a great heart. Thank you. P.S: I found the same use for small GL bag.

Yes, CRF250/300 is a great entry point and I absolutely loved my Honda, but there are moments when you just need some more from it and it is not able to deliver. If you want stay in the same weight category, KTM 690 Enduro R / Husky 701 Enduro / GasGas 700 Es (all being 99% the same bike, just different plastics and minor difference in tank size) are a great step up from Honda.
Tiger, Transalp, VStrom, F850GS or even T7 are far heavier and honestly much more road focused than 690/701/700. If your focus are trails, it might be a good idea to give 701 a try :) cheers!

I’ve addressed the luggage, extra fuel, lights, pegs, seat, etc but I haven’t come up with a solution for wind protection yet. The Britannia seems the best bet so far. I chose the 690 over the 890 because of the weight since I am in my mid fifties and couldn’t picture myself picking up the extra 100lbs by myself in the trails. The 690 has been a lot of fun to own and turned out to be a fantastic city bike as well fun in the trails. The only time I even think about the 890 is when I want to go further from home. If only ktm could get the weight of the 890 or even the 790 down to 400lbs but still have the twin cylinder motor. That could be the unicorn we’ve been searching for 😳

Great video! I agree with you decision 100%
    My scenario:
I bought a KTM 790 Adventure R used - cost me 17.400 Euro (because we have insanely high taxes on motorcycle registration in Denmark - roughly 40% of the total value!!!)
I am now selling the KTM and have bought a used 701 for 10000 euro - I still have plenty of cash left for mods - and then I get a bike tailor fitted to me.
Has the PHDS system helped with handlebar vibration in the grips? I get annoying vibration in the throttle tube especially.
Also: I think the 701 is a much better adventure platform than the 790 because of the weight. It is so easy to pick up, and less expensive when it breaks.
Final point: If you decide to go for the 890 go for the R model. It has a slightly steeper steering angle and it makes it endlessly better in my opinion, it just handles so much better than the standard bike. Also the improvement in suspension alone is worth the additional price - especially if you don't have to pay crazy Danish taxes....
Cool video - I really appreciate the way you present your thoughts!
    Cheers from Denmark,
    Peter

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  Год назад

Hey Peter and thank you for a great comment.
      1. Yes, PHDS has reduced the vibrations of the handlebar and I do not feel any pain anymore (especially during highway rides, as I used to did). There are 3 different sets of rubber available, but I am using the medium inserts that come with the package. Good stuff.
      2. For my kind of usage of motorcycle, 701 is a perfect solution - I can use it for commuting, short out-of-town off-road rides and once or twice a year for a longer trip like TET. For all of that 890 would be an overkill, too much for those needs. And there is the weight. I can't believe basically (out of mayor manufacturers, PR7 is out of my scope due to lack of local support) only KTM has a proper offering in that space, this is such a perfect tool.
      3. those taxes in Denmark are crazy, I feel your pain...
Have a great riding season, cheers!

A Friend of mine has used a KTM made LOWERING KIT
      part number: 76912955044.

You can actually cut 20mm off the seat height putting thin gel insert which is at least as comfortable as standard seat foam in standard height. By doing this you do not mess with the suspension setup which should be based on your weight. I am planning to do this as I also have 31 inches of inseam but I do not want to sacrifice the clearance and you loose 40mm of it when you put the factory lowering kit.

The GasGas ES700 won't be thought about until many more units are sold. I sat on one of these and was just touching tiptoes but it does have a higher seat (936mm) than either the 690 or 701.
