Ok, I have been waiting over 11 months to make any judgements on this new leather. With that being said I just received my ESV PSQ in Tuscany calfskin and I LOVE it! I do want to note several importantly points. Photos and videos do not do this Bible justice. It is not as atomic as it looks on screen. Also it tends to lighten over time. The texture is very smoothy and silky. The patina is beautifully charming. The cover is thick and stiff but loosens over time. I highly recommend this Bible as it is now one of my favorites!
They definitely should have kept the 28 GSM to the Thintel line. I would love to see at least 36 GSM become the norm again. Unfortunately, Indopaque paper (what Schuyler uses) doesn't come in a 40 GSM. It jumps from a 36 to a 45, which I think is what they use in their wide margin editions.
💯Agree. If Schuyler made their bibles with at least 36 GSM paper similar to what R L Allan uses, I’d be buying more Schuyler bibles. Even though I’m very careful handling my Schuyler bibles with 28 GSM, the pages are dog eared pages and with curled edges. Love LOVE reading from Allan Bibles where the paper is a joy and holds up to daily use. AS far as premium bibles go, I’d much rather spend money on a thicker, heavier bible (made with thicker paper) than a lighter, thinner bible made with onion skin thin paper.
LOVE your videos! Thank you so much. I just bought my very first Premium Bible ever. Mine is from Schuyler, too. Wow...I love this color. I got the imperial blue in NKJV. First "fancy" Bible I will own. I love this color too. If it had been available, I might have chosen it, instead. Your videos have helped me so much. Thank you for your time and how informative you are. God Bless You!
It looks like a great new option from Schuyler, and the blank Schuyler clamshell box...maybe something new to be highly sought after in Premium Bibles? And WHAT a lineup of Schuyler Bibles you arranged there, really beautiful 😄The Tuscany calfskin in full yapp, I think that will be SUPER nice.
I own the Schuyler Quentel RSV in full yap black goatskin, complete with Apocrypha, and also own the Cambridge Diadem complete with Apocrypha (I'm Roman Catholic). If and when Schuyler decides to offer an ESV complete with Apocrypha I'll be first in line to order it. It's so very sad for we Catholics that no one offers a premium quality Douay-Rheims (and yes, the 's' is silent!).
This kind of leather is absolutely beautiful, but you also need to take care of it. If you throw it in a denim bag, you could end up with a Bible with blue stains. That's what this leather does. It'll take on the oil of your hands and stuff that you put it down on. It will also age to get the most beautiful brown color ever (see how dark the cross is? That's similar to what the rest of the Bible is going to look like in maybe two or three years of regular handling and light exposure), but it's going to take a long time. It does best when you regularly coat it with oil too... But I don't think many people are going to do that with their Bibles. So yes, it's very boutique-y, and certainly very premium. They're going to sell a lot of them, but I would wonder how popular it's going to be over time. Some people might not like it, whereas other people will absolutely love it.
I have this bible in the ESV Stridon edition full yap, I also have the NKJV Qiuntel in the marbled mahogany. Both are an excellent option that I really enjoy!!
You said that was a Quentel but I thought it was coming out first in Treveris. Also, I’m more interested in the layout than the outside. The Tuscany is beautiful!!
Does the whole Bible feel heavier, with the thicker leather? How about the thickness of the whole bible compared to the red one? I like rustic leather. Maybe they will have other colors in this type of leather, at some point?
Great vid - thanks so much for sharing this with us. It looks quite yellowy in the overhead shots (she says hopefully!) tho' more browny tan in the (purple?) light of your face to face vid... - is it more mustard yellow than tan (browny tan) in the actual flesh? (PS I sometimes wonder if reviewers used a white desk or table for reviewing, it would help with the colour calibration for viewing???)
My couch is made with Italian aniline leather it’s awesome. I would love to have a Bible made with that leather. I hope it comes in a csb. When is this line being released. Evangelical website has no info on any CSBs other then fire brick red not my thing.
I was between the Tuscany and Desert Camel for the new Heirloom Study, but this video may have swayed me to the Tuscany! Have you seen/felt the Desert Camel yet?
Beautiful! I think patina is the name of the game for this one. I can imagine fingerprints, scratches, changing color over time, maybe even a coffee ring 😊!I hope they do PSQs too.
Tim - Excellent video sharing the new cover option from Schuyler! Do not see this cover offer on the pre order for NKJV Quentel which is my favorite translation currently - too bad as I would sure like to add this cover to my small fleet of Bibles. Around 8:30 into the video you refer to the black pearl, mahogany, and merlot as goatskin and these may be calfskin covers.
Awesome review! Since the Tuscany leather is thicker and softer than the normal calfskin that Schuyler uses, is it comparable to the Meriva calfskin that Allan uses? I just ordered the Schuyler Quentel ESV Full Yapp Tuscany and want to know what I am getting into since I have an Allan 52. Thanks Tim!
it just dawned on me: the Tuscany leather on this bible looks like Peanut Butter and now i can't unsee that. i just ordered this bible in the Schuyler Quentel in NIV and i'm really looking forward to it.
Hi, Tim I'm new to the channel, and I really appreciate your work. I am looking for a new bible but I am from romania. Do you know and recommend any places to buy a romanian bible form?
I would prefer this too my couch and chair are made with Italian aniline leather it’s just awesome the patina is just my style and just feels luxurious.
@@timwildsmith does this color have a very rustic look? It’s kind of hard to tell the color from the camera. Every view looks slightly different. Is it more of a cognac color?
I'm planning to buy a premium Bible for study and preaching this spring, and have had my eye on this guy (ESV full yap) or an ESV Omega in Horween. Like the Schuyler style better overall, but concerned about the orange tint to this one. The Horween may end up more my style. Is it as pumpkin orange as some of the shots make it seem?
Very important to note here that the color will change dramatically over time and be much darker. If you are concerned about the initial color, this will not be an issue at all with the patina this leather will eventually have.
Its interesting, but I don't see me getting one. I'm not fond of the color, certainly don't like thick leather - I need floppy goatskin! And I love how Goatskin resists looking haggard after years of use whereas this leather will look (in my eyes) damaged after only a few weeks of use. Sorry ... not trying be be a downer here folks, this one just isn't my cup of tea.
Tim, I wish you would comment on the latest round of Schulyer bibles not having great paper. I am sure they send you the best ones but I am reading in the forms and multiple people have pointed this out. Lo and behold, I wanted to order myself a NASB 95 before they go out of stock, and it comes with very wavy paper. I have other Quentels that are great. The worst part is that the customer service has been bad around the issue. They are sending it back to me claiming there is nothing wrong with it. Also removed my very fair review I left on the site, 3 stars (seems dishonest to me). I have $20 bibles with better paper. It is a shame, they used to make the best bibles in my view.
The paper isn't good at all for the larger formats. It was a mistake to lower the GSM for the full-size Quentel, and everyone knows it. Obviously Tim and other popular reviewers aren't going to openly say so because Schuyler bibles are expensive and they can't jeopardize access to free copies of them to create their content with (completely understandable). I can't imagine it'll be much longer before they start offering 36 or higher again.
Bad experience with Evangelical Bible. Gave them $250 for a Schuyler with FedEx shipping. Never showed up. They blame FedEx and haven’t returned my money. Unfortunate and experience. Be cautious with this company.

Aniline calfskin is so thick and smooth I love it in my new Bible ❤
I would love this and the black pearl. They are both on my list, but still loving on my horween leather ESV every day. It’s breaking in beautifully.
Just received my Tuscany KJV recently. This bible leather is truly wonderful and it feels solidly smooth. Love it!!
Wonderful!
Looks very nice. I would be even more excited if they made limited runs of more Bibles in 40 GSM paper!

@@RustyBibles I agree. 28 gsm is incredibly delicate. Any wrong turn and the page crumbles
💯Agree. If Schuyler made their bibles with at least 36 GSM paper similar to what R L Allan uses, I’d be buying more Schuyler bibles. The number one downfall to the Schuyler…. 28 gsm is way to thin!!
Needs to be at least 36. Preferably 40 gsm
Ok this is my new fav color.
Beautiful Bible!! Love the colour, but I'm guessing it's going to be way beyond my budget!!
Thanks for the overview! I’ve been waiting for somebody to put a video out about this leather lol. I’m excited to get the CSB PSQ in Tuscany come May!
Yes!!! 👏
Just pre-ordered mine I'm super pumped!
Good choice!
Thanks Hal!
Just purchased this. Will arrive in 15 days or less!
Pre-ordered this one to be gifted to my mother in law... hope she will like it.
Nice gift!

Right on!

So nice
Schuyler just added this Bible for pre-order for all those who are interested. Thanks for all your good work, Tim 👍🏼
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for showing this!
You bet!
I can’t wait to hold one lol
Tim, do you think there will be an NLT Quentel version? Thank you for your videos. Always informative and entertaining.
I assume they’ll add this to the NLT Quentel whenever they do a new run.

Yes, a white desk/cloth for overhead shots would be wise for both colour comparisons and contrast for observing features. 👌
It feels mostly orange to me.

Not that I know of... Sorry!
I can’t find the ESV in this color. I really wish I could.
If that leather was available on the open market, I would use it for a rebind. 😅
Hey-o!
It sounds similar to horween leather in the sense that it’s thicker and it wears out over time. Do you like this better than Horween and why?
Great question... I prefer this to the horween leathers I have seen. It feels more like badalassi carlo than horween, which I like.
I would prefer this too my couch and chair are made with Italian aniline leather it’s just awesome the patina is just my style and just feels luxurious.
I’m curious as to why only the NIV Quentel has 36 GSM, and all the other Quentels have 28 GSM
I've heard someone say that they printed a bunch of NIV text blocks on 36 GSM and only bound some of them... but I'm not sure how accurate that is.
Is it soft and floppy? Looks hard and rigid in the video. Thanks for your great work!
I compare it with other leathers toward the end... not as soft and floppy as goatskin.
@@timwildsmith Got it, thank you.
Hey Tim, curious what your personal preference is between goatskin, calfskin etc.?
Goatskin would be my first choice.
Thicker paper please!
Bro, I want this bible so bad now 😅 thanks Tim lol I'm broke, and my wife would kill me if I got one 🤣
Would you prefer this over the black pearl?
I've literally been debating that! Can't decide!
@@timwildsmith does this color have a very rustic look? It’s kind of hard to tell the color from the camera. Every view looks slightly different. Is it more of a cognac color?
How does this compare to the ESV Creeds and Confessions Bible size wise? Are they about the same in length, width and height? Thank you for the help.
Yep... very similar overall size.
Aniline doesn’t roll off the tongue like Badalassi Carlo. 😂
Do these guys ship from Europe or is it US based only ? Really want one 🙂
Yes, they ship everywhere.

What color ribbons?
So... The prototype is in Tuscany but the actual Bible will be in Burt Sienna? I really like that Tuscany
Burnt Sienna is the art gilding color... this Tuscany color is the actual color that it will be.
@@timwildsmith Yes! That is good news! Thanks brother!
I guess I better start saving my pennies. Ha!
Great way to impress your friends with your spirituality.
The best way to impress God is to study and live it.
It doesnt come in wide margins😞
Do you know which translations they are making available in this leather?
It sounds to me like it's going to be across their line in most of their new print runs this year.
Does this have sewn binding?
Yes.
Is this only available in the ESV translation?
ESV and KJV to start... but they are making this leather available across their line of Bibles as new batches release.
Thank you
Does anyone have a date when this is coming on the market??
I want to know that as well.
