Matt its been a pleasure to see you grow over the years. You really get across that you've reached the pinnacle of fishing and now you're sharing that experience and knowledge with as many people with your boat and taking us at home along for the journey. I struggle to think of anyone who is remotely close to you in skill and experience and shares it online for free. Thank you very much mate!
Agree 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks mate!
That’s as good as it gets, Mat. Live for this stuff.
Keep em coming matty ! And ill continue living my life vicariously through you haha . Cheers
That was a very cool episode. Yes the two swords were awesome but some god info from Matt and beautiful to see the emotion at the end. You're one lucky man!
Binge watching the old vids 😂 still love it keen to get my own one day 🤞
great ethics man , love your work
Was this April 4th by chance. We were out off the manukau and came across Mahi Mahi en mass. Even got a marlin hook up on the way home. One of the flattest days I’ve had out in recent time. Awesome vid.
Epic fishing mate 🤙
Hey Matt another insane video. Just curios in a couple older videos on the Ultimate Lady Ive seen what I guess is a handle on the bigger rods. Looks like it makes it a lot easier to move them around. Just wanted to know what they were called and maybe were to buy them. Cheers
Nice mate keep it up
Hey Matt, can u go thru the rig showing how u attach the sinker etc.
Mad Fish bro
This is so great
Ur a Legend Matt
I cought my marlin on the same rod
Awesome !!!
Hey Matt, do you think there is much difference between the Talica and Tiagra in inertia and friction for the crank drives? It looks like the Talica is much easier to crank on, which would help save a lot of anglers endurance IMO.
The tiagra has a much better line capacity though
@@Me__420 yes absolutely, definitely get more line on the Tiagra which also helps for line pick up in fast moving fish - but from what I've gathered, capacity isn't a big issue for swords since they will often take a bait and come straight to the surface
@@jordythebassist that’s why he uses the tiagras for marlin instead of broadbill but people still use the tiagras just in case the fish sounds and take the 900m
hey mate little question if you dont mind asking it would you ever drop down 900m for swords or at least drop half way if there's good grounds out there?
and are swords in nz a yearly thing or is there definitely a season for em cheers mate
If there is food then there could be fish. People can catch swords year round in NZ, but Autumn is the best season.
Man I gotta get down there sometimes and get a sword, been trying here in the philippines but no luck so far
You'll get one eventually.
There's some nice ones there.
Try the far north beers mate, good.
What lbs line were you using at that moment and drag set to?,im trying to understand and get more into fishing and so on,mostly drag set,a reel with 30lbs drag would handle line of 90lbs and a good fish of over 100lbs no?
Check out this link, Matt explains exactly how he sets up his gear for sword fish. www.ultimatefishing.tv/home/video/142/getting-started-in-game-fishing
Way to not sink the boat in fish! Enjoying the stoke. Let ‘em go let ‘em grow.
can you Please Add Whar kind of seawater Rods you using for this Catch ,can you put a Link where i can Shop for thanks
We use Shimano Tiagra Ultras. Heres a link to Matt's full set up: www.ultimatefishing.tv/home/video/656/
I'm curious as to how long it took the second angler (ben) to reel in his big swordfish on the new rods?
Maybe Matt or one of the uf crew could answer this for me?
Ben made it look easy, it took him just over 2 hrs. Ben went hard on heavy drag, if he hadn't it could have been a 6hr fight.
Ben's a certified human winch! Bloody impressive, even with excellent tackle.
One last question mate (and I apologize for it being similar to the first), how long did Shane's 280 kg sword take to bring in?
Oh and btw I subscribed, your yt channel and show is top notch🤘
Shane's took just over 2.5hrs, and again he went hard on heavy drag
So many funny jokes ha ha ha
Wow, the average size of kiwi swords is impressive.... congrats guys!
Do you not remove the hook??
We always try, but if its not safe to do so we cut the line as close to the hook as possible. All hooks that we use are high carbon and they will corrode and fall out quickly.
They talk about how the fight fish hard so that way they can release it. These fish have lots of energy, not always safe to remove the hook from a thrashing 4-600 pound fish. Cutting it be trying to fight the fish to remove the fish can put more strain on the fish whereas the hook will fall out from a couple houses to a max of a few days
I would try to cut the hook in half with heavy duty pliers....if the fish is not too green and angry
Last
I know Mike Watson if you know him
That's realy fat ...every angler's dream
hi my name is Riwhi you may rember me from the boat show i was wording if you could take me fishing please my birthday is soon to

HI there Matt. I used to really like your channel. I have learned so much. But, with your increased use of swear words I cannot carry on watching this video or others like it. Let alone recommending your channel. You make your choice and I will make mine
U can’t be for real right ? In fact I like it and he doesn’t swear alot n usually it’s bleeped out so what’s the problem ? But I’m sure Matt will change the show just for u sir
Lol
How entitled must you be to get content and knowledge like this for free and have the gall to make pathetic threats over a few swear words. How about you try again and say thanks for the great content Mat, highly appreciate it mate.
Can't stand that noise,
If they had bigger eyes on that pole he could wiinnd that fish all the way an no hand leadering
