It seems that the smallest vehicle in Hyundai's lineup offers up the biggest flaws. The 2014 Accent is adorned with typical "new Hyundai" style and warranty - all at a low price. Problem is, the rest of the sub-compact class competitors have stepped up their game, leaving Hyundai's offering in need of a major refresh - hopefully, for their sake, sooner rather than later.
"I'm so used to cars that are much more expensive" - that quote is basically all you need to know about this review and this guy.
Dude, this is an economical vehicle.. don't expect fancy features.. DUH !
Wow, only 19 likes in *5 years*
He's comparing it to other cars in that class or other cars in that price point or competitors. Dumbshit, go back to sckool.
Lol even base Sonata SE don’t have a fancy feature inside and still used key when the outside look like $50,000 car!

I love my Hyundai Accent hatchback 2014. I still have it. It is so economical and had never any issue with it. I recommend it to anyone looking for it.
Thanks for sharing. We just bought a Hyundai Accent hatchback 2015 about a week ago. We love it!
The only thing I hate about my accent is that it's a 2012 not manual transmission car, good ol Automatic, I wanna have the feel of a manual with a hatchback, can't have it.
This guy is weird! He' fully aware that he's reviewing one of the most inexpensive cars in the market and all you hear from him is the word cheap. He's should be always aware he's not testing a Lexus or Mercedes here. He should be at least more reasonable what to expect and review the car he's driving according to its class and price. This car is tuned and geared for average driver and it's obvious to see it like he's racing as if he's driving a sports car. This car is not underpowered at all. I have the Kia Rio LX+ with the 6-speed manual which has the same engine as the Accent and I find this engine quite refined, smooth and has more than enough power. The automatic tyranny equipped he's driving here as he mentioned can accelerate to 60 In about 9 seconds is not that slow in this this class and type of vehicle and the ride and noise are just about the same as every lightweight cars like Versa or the Honda Fit. According to some U.S. magazines the manual transmission equipped Accent goes to 60 in 8.2.seconds and that's not slow nor underpowered at all. In the 1980's' that kind of performance is comparable to a V8 Mustang or Camaro. I'm sorry, this guy is just so biased and irritating I'm compelled to write this post.
Totally agree with you.
Bought my 2014 Hyundai Accent GLS brand new in 2014. This guy has a serious hard on for Honda and isn't giving this car a a fair review. First he says the car doesn't have enough power, then he says it's one of the most powerful subcompact cars of its class thanks to its weight. He defeated his own criticism. Acceleration is indeed great in this car. Never had problems going up hills and never had to "floor" it going up hills either. As for features, I have the nicer model with fog lights, blue tooth, USB port, extra steering wheel controls, etc that all cost a little over 16,000. For that price, you'd have to buy a base model if you wanted a Fiesta or Sonic. Doubt any Honda dealer would sell you a new fit for that price. Im 6'1 and I think this car is extremely comfortable and roomy for a small car. Also I do need that blind spot mirror. The only part of this video that's right is the cheap interior. The Seats stain easily, carpet is cheap feeling, and everything is plastic.
You're used to being around a lot nicer cars, but don't you own a Honda Fit? Were all just trying to get by man you don't have to shit on less expensive cars like this. It's transportation and I'm blessed to have it, show a little more humility.
+LakeCaldera If you think Redline was harsh, go watch CNET's review of this Accent and Versa. They tear them apart: "UGLY is included, at no extra cost"

+The Rusty Scooter ACTUALLY he said far worse than that: "The logo says Pure Drive.... haha yeah because that's pretty much all it does"..... ....."Okay now let's talk about the tech. You get a radio..... okay I'm done." ...... ....."These tires feel like they came off a motorcycle. They are so thin & jerk the car as they follow every groove." ...... "Here's the engine. No direct injection or turbo or lean burn. Just a low powered engine."..... and my favorite: "THIS IS THE CAR YOU BUY WHEN YOU'VE GIVEN UP ON LIFE." - Brian Cooley, CNET
.
and the Scion IA has a whopping 106hp. I'll take an extra 30hp over poor quality leather any day of the week.
LakeCaldera the scion IA has been having a lot of transmission failures #MazdaReliability
This guys voice is annoying and he keeps saying "this feels cheap"...dude its a a cheap car how is it suppose to feel like...
GalacticLion77 Other cars offer better value.
true
+Alexandre Potvin Which cars offer better value? If you mean the offer an upgraded stereo for $2000 extra, well, that sounds like a ripoff. A lot of the "features" in more pricey cars could be installed, by the owner, for 25% of the cost. (And don't forget, larger cars eat more of that expensive $3/gallon gas.)
.
+Alexandre Potvin They really dont accept for Ford
@@watchdogs295 here we are 3 years later and the fiesta is dead and that accent still lives on.
My mom has this car and i drove it and honestly i was impressed with all you get for the money ive driven expensive cars and classics and this car is alot of car for the money. It has alot of nice small features that add up to a big difference for example the sun visor slides when on the side to cover the whole window and has a slide open mirror on both visors. the rear hatchback cargo cover goes up when u open the hatchback and i love that the trans tunnel has a small hump in the rear for legroom and the back of the seats are reinforced with a hard plastic for longevity it has cruise control and the motor is good it responds fast and the steering is well weighted and honestly that hard plastic will last a long time and is easy to clean. Im 6.3 and i feel comfortable in this car, and honestly the guy is bs'ing the seats are decent waaaay better than most small economy cars. Its a good car the design is nice in and out hyundai really did a good job with the materials available to make the car cheap but still nice. Btw this is coming from a Mercedes fan. I understand the guy reviewing has been in nicer cars but honestly his review seems alot like his own opinion rather than a non biased review
Everyone who watches this video can understand, it's only the reviewer's opinion. It's completely relative. I've owned one and can absolutely say it has enough power (owned 4,6, and 8 cylinder vehicles). What makes an Accent (2012-2015) feel completely different is the manual, then there's other factors. The hatch version has a sport tuning to the steering and the sedan version doesn't. Every factor has to be looked at. It's a harder to understand car than it's competition. It's very high-end technology, this review never pushed it to the limits ever. If you take a corner, the VSM (vehicle stability management) kicks in if you ended up going too fast, it brakes individual wheels (maybe other brands refer to this as torque vectoring), because yes it will automatically make throttle adjustments (it cuts it), but it's not annoying. In fact, it feels natural. It's quite a car. It's a class up in interior in size than the competition and it has the best warranty. The fuel economy is relative as well, it's all up to the driver. It's not that hard to average 35 m.p.g. and up. The main lessons learned from owning one, was - stay on top of all maintenance, definitely rotate the tires every 5,000 miles, the stock Kumhos are precise enough within the design of use if a maintenance schedule is adhered to. If you don't mind shifting, purchase a manual version. I wasn't sure and purchased an automatic, it was excellent, but I test drove a manual and it was about 2 seconds faster (that's a lot if you're a car fan). It was a very safe car (too long of story), but it saved lives.
Back to the review (driving and talking with hands, that's just a recipe for disaster). The reviewer has some good input, yet needs to be safe (be safe make more videos). Thanks for reading this long comment.
Disappointed in an ignition key??? Hard to take anyone serious that has complaints about a freakin" key. Stick to the high end snob cars that you obviously prefer testing.
GPz84 honda fit is better
What Car is he talking about?Hyundai accent is a very nice car "I'M JUST SAYING " 😣
He's talking about the Kia Rio too.
I feel like every time he says "I have to lower my expectations" I should take a shot of Vodka. This IS a BASIC car. It's actually a great car for a small, basic car for those who don't want or need a million buttons to have to mess with every time you get in. If you are use to higher class cars, stick with doing reviews on higher class cars..This is a great little car that has more go power than the Versa, Spark, and Fiesta.
How much more can you bash the poor accent with the word "cheap"? what do you expect for that price anyway? can you suggest a better car than this for the same price with a premium feel? I am very curious as to what car do you own really?
I actually like it. And normally I'm not a fan of hatchbacks but this one looks pretty nice
Mazda 3 hatchback looks nice too
jacob meegan
I agree 100%
jacob meegan Mazda3 definitely looks better. btw, this car seems to complete with the Mazda2 rather than the Mazda3.
i dont usually like hyndai but i gotta admit this car is very pretty from the front
I've had mine for two years. I like it a lot. It's small easy to clean. It gets great mileage. About 35 hw and about 28 city. It's a great road trip car.
geez your just harcking on that car yes we get it that not fancy but you gotta remember it's an economy car!
Seriously I love how you get a lot of things wrong with the vehicles you review. First, the GLS trim is the sedan model. The hatchbacks come in GS and SE! Second, you CAN get an SE in a six-speed manual! I've seen them in dealerships! And thirdly, there is NO turbo version of the Accent. That's the Veloster Turbo you're thinking of, and I doubt Hyundai will make an R-Spec of the Accent (if you want that, then look at the Veloster Turbo R-Spec)! For bloody sake, man, do better!
While you're right about the trim levels and transmission, he said he WISHED that the Accent was offered with a turbo if I heard right. It's unlikely this car will get one even in the future tho because it would increase the price of it into compact car territory and potentially decrease it's fuel economy. The car already loses in that department to the competition anyways, so the purpose of making it would be defeated.
He said they had a turbo 1.6 in it before and wished they had it on a sport trim of the accent
he is better than Saabkyle4
No just no Kyle's unbiased this guy is biased towards every car he reviews
but he actually criticizes so us customers will no what is wrong. kyle is just like hello look at the seats everything is gorgeous blah blah nothing said bad about the car.
I like how everyone compares it to cars that they have driven before that are not even in the class. For a sub-compact that gets awesome MPG this car is great and drives great. who cares if the door is hard plastic, putting you arm way up by the window to rest is ridiculous. how about keeping your hands on the wheel. people just compare nicer cars against cheaper practical cars to much. I compare this car to my 95 jeep and think its the most luxurious thing i have ever driven. its a nice car but ya there are always nicer ones... i would have liked the chevy sonic but it was almost 2k more than this car i found, and got less MPG
So true!
MPG could do a bit better. I mean, the 2015 accent still has lower MPG than some compact cars like the civic and mazda 3. I hope Hyundai fixes this with the redesign in 2016 cause even the sonata eco which is a midsize car almost has the same MPG as the Accent.
Well I just did my first fill up after getting it and I live in some big hills of Oregon and got 29.8mpg all city. So looks like I am beating the manufacturers test. This guy probably has a lead foot and thinks he should get the recommended mpg when he trying to go from 0-60 in 2 seconds or something. If you drive smart and the speed limit you will get the tested mpg.
My thoughts exactly right?! like.. im not going to die if i dont have push start... as far as i see im still going to be driving the nicest car out of all my friedns
I've owned this car in the lower trim for 3 years now so here's some quick notes: Bought in 2015 with 37,500 miles. Now has 82,000 miles. The only time I've gone to the mechanic was for routine maintenance/tires. The radio sucks, even with an aftermarket head unit. The hard touch door panels really bother my elbow on longer rides. The seats are actually comfortable for me (5'7", 180 lbs). The engine feels pretty quick off the line up to about 40mph (my last car was a Grand Am GT). The transmission is quick to down shift when you accelerate. I've rarely felt the need to floor it like the reviewer is doing although it does get up to almost 6k rpm when accelerating from a stop when I'm in the mood. :) Rearward visibility is crap; when I brought the car home, the first thing I did is remove the rear headrests and have never put them back on. The only tank I ever check MPG on was at 35 in mixed driving when the car had about 40,000 miles on it. And I never use the ECO function (mostly because it does not dim with the dimmer roller and is really dang bright on my night time work commute).
It seems that people didn't like the "bitchy" complaining of this guy about the car, but to be honest, he's right. Yeah, the Accent was and still is a cheap car, but he's reviewing the highest trim. The highest trim of the Rio (its cousin) is basically priced the same and it includes touch screen, push-start button, smart keyless entry, back-up camera, paddle shifters, leather/vinyl seats, optional front heated seats, folding mirrors, mirror turn signal indicators, optional headlamp projectors and LED daytime running lights, 17" wheels (vs the 16 in the Accent) with black accent, soft material on the dash, etc. So I think it was expectable for him to get dissapointed when saw that the highest trim of the Accent doesn't include any of that and still was rated at the same price.
I watch a lot of this guys reviews but this is the only one he had done that makes no since he says such bad things I test drove several cars before I bought my hyundai accent sedan the versa is way worst I don't care that it's made by nissan it's terrible my accent is way faster than all the compacts I tested interior looks great compared to other compact cars also no cvt transmisson one of the few cars in the class that does not have a cvt I i guess he thought he was going to get a genesis or something just very disappointed in his review seems like he woke up to complain
Mine is six years old now and still gets me to work hassle free plus a few road trips a year so not bad. I guess it is cheap depending on how deep is your pocket.
Are you using a different camera? This video seems grainier than your other videos. Just curious.
i have to admit it, i have an accent 2013 (same body, sedan version) and i can say it has quite power. i have race toyota corolla from 0-60 it moves really smooth. you get into a point in where corolla will pass you, but it has something in that small engine. might be cheap, but is really powerful. and i can also say mine is the cheapest version and it hhas power window, power locks, power mirror, usb/aux, xm radio, cd player, comfortable seats, and a reliable car for long distance trips.
Nice review. You just about covered everything. I would have like to see a U-Turn though.
Dude, I've driven one of these, and I never ONCE had to push it over 3300 rpm in even the hilliest area. You sir are just power hungry.
which explains his crappy fuel economy...I bought a 2014 Kia Rio sedan and on a recent trip of 250 miles got an average of 50 mpg -driving the speed limit and using cruise.- and I never saw the tach over 3000- cruise at 1800 at 60 mph...and it has WAY more niceties than the accent and is only the mid trim model....OTOH I also own a 2012 Tucson as well and still get better than posted mpg (34 mpg highway ) so it really does depend on your driving style...
That voice....
I have the 2016 Auto transmission sedan version and I love it. It is very smooth ride and does not feel under powered. You ask for more and the ETC (electronic throttle) will respond right away. My only disappointments is that on bumpy roads the suspension doesn't do a great job and the city fuel economy is around 22-24 mpg, but on the highway I have gone up to 42mpg average. Driving the car does not feel cheap, more like a well built Corolla from the 90s.
I just got my car this guy is sure calling it down lol would hate to have him for my sales guy.
You complain about fuel economy considering you're driving the car constantly at high revs
My grandma has one of these in the "Elite" trim, which is the top/sporty trim and it's really nice with black leather seats and dual automatic climate control, push button start and key-less access! It still has those dang hard arm rests though.. Nice review!
Ive made a few videos on this car and i have to say, i really like it..they were 2012 models and the base sedan. I hated the ford fiesta sedan tho, THAT was really uncomfortable and the seasting position was odd. This is probably my third favorite sub compact after the Rio sedan and Fit.
I'll never watch your video again. Poor review. We own a 2013 Accent and, for the price, it's an amazing car. Now 77k on it and not a single problem.
I have a 2013 accent se. Wow what a great car! Reliable, handsome, and superbly built! We get 45 mpg hwy at times! Sure, the Fiesta has more features, but the build quality in that car is crap and it is proven to be the least reliable car on the market!
I usually Like your Reviews. But I seriously dislike your opinion on this car. I've driven and ridden in the BASE version automatic and I am a guy that's use to more high end vehicles and I walked away impressed for the $$$. I agree about the door arm rests but truth be told for this money you have everything you really need in a car and nothing you don't need. I also found the cabin to be a lot more quiet then expected. I drove a Focus SE Rental and disliked it more then this Accent. Edmunds says you can get this SE Hatchback with Sun Roof for under $18K. Why don't you just compare to other cars in this field instead of mentioning your ITCHY SKIN.
This car is destined to become a rental.
i luv my my 2014 accent! to each his own!!
The driver seat is comfortable and has a lumbar adjustment option and steering wheel adjustment that is helpful. The moon/sun roof is a great option as is having air conditioning. (I had a 2003 Accent hatchback, basic GS model with no AC. UGH!)
I too find the ride especially on the freeway to be noisy and bumpy. The lower clearance than the older models is for me as a NW outdoors person VERY annoying...Even when I go super slow the under-body hits the 'rocks' and I've had to turn around where the older model I had no trouble getting to campsites.
brought this car for my son and i really like it. only paid 13 for it. don't expect luxury. everything fits together really nice. it drives really nice. has alot of accessories for a base car.
It's funny with all the cheap materials, you'd think it'll actually achieve it's stated gas mileage.
Hard touch plastic makes for easy cleaning
Good Reviews Man. Stright up guy , says what is true .... Keep up the good work.
The usb port does not require a proprietary cable if you plug in a flash drive. I have this exact car and plugged in my flash drive without any issues (just FYI)
I really like your comprehensive reviews, but I'm surprised you got the transmission issue wrong in this case. You absolutely CAN get a 6-speed manual in the SE. (You actually say that later when you're driving, so I'm confused why you got it wrong earlier.) Really, that's the Accent's main advantage over its Kia Rio cousin: you can only get a manual in the base Rio.
Overall I pretty much agree with everything he's said. I've rented a 2015 Hyundai Accent and although it has 138 hp it really doesn't feel like it has that much power. The seats were flat and hard while the rode was kind of stiff...
We got a 2016 Hyundai accent hatchback as a rental yesterday and it good
A sport edition with sport tuned steering that's why it handles good
you wanna talk about basic, you should see my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Manual transmission, manual windows, manual doors, manual mirrors, no AC, etc etc. now THAT'S basic. This Accent is looking like a luxury car compared to my vehicle lol
We had this as a rental and holy shit. Once I got the EQ set the sound system BUMPED!!
So thats how you feel, maybe you should buy me a better car Brandon. You said you loved it.
I don't think I've watched a more negative review... He is obviously biased against Hyundai, because I own a 2012 Hyundai Accent Sedan with next to no options other than the automatic transmission and I love that car.... The stereo sounds amazing for what the car costed.
I've been looking at the Rio but I can't find any used hatchbacks of it within a 100 miles of my area. It seems people are only buying the sedan version. I test drove the hatchback version of it at a dealership but they wanted $5k over MSRP for the mid level trim and claimed that the top level trim and color I wanted wasn't available, even though it says it is on Kia's website.
I own the 2012 Accent Hatchback. Good car. Reliable. Not luxurious, but a solid compact class car. I've put 45,000 miles on it. No issues.
I've put since 2014 about 207 000 kilos. (accent 2012)
I have a 2013 Accent 5 door, and while I do plan on trading in the spring for a 2015 Sonata, I really think the car is a lot better than you make it out to be, I had a 2011 Ford Focus before and while that is a rather outdated car that came out in 2008, I like the Accent a lot more, and while the lack of features is kinda sucky, I actually really like the styling, best in class next to the Rio in my opinion.
I have only one question for Hyundai .What happen to 2 door hatchback?
I’m really disappointed that this cheap car feels cheap
I want rolls Royce feeling when I buy this 8,000 or less dollar vehicle 🙄
The 6 speed manual does come in the se by the way, that's what I have
my ears could cringe
nice pun at 1:30 "accented lights"
Took one of these accent hatches as a rental car yesterday. Averaged 39 MPGs the entire trip... and I was driving like an idiot as I normally do in my regular car... I take it the base model didn't come with the center armrest; rather a haphazardly fold down one for the driver..?
Glad to see the walkaround again :) great vid
Auto manufacturers make the window sills hard touch plastic and uncomfortable for a reason. If you read the owner's manual, they state you should not rest your arm there because of the risk of injury in the event of side curtain airbag deployment.
i would like to know if the transmision is sealed or not because a bougth a hyundai accent 2014 1.6 american version.
My neighbour bought the absolute cheapest 2014 Accent possible. I drove it and it was awful! That clutch felt awkward and the shifter was notchy. The seats were hard and uncomfortable and it was very loud. I would never buy one. A Fit or Fiesta are best in class bar none.
Is he also into S&M? Check his basement.
Probably as bad as the Nissan Versa base 5 speed.
vader11111 this is a lot worse then the base manual Versa haha
naveenshanv Really? I thought the Versa base is bad enough, since it is the cheapest new car in America. Everything is manual and hard plastic in that car. No tachometer. lol
vader11111 Who needs a tach? Just push it until it complains, then shift! :P
Please don't mansplain why people buy subcompact cars. Plenty of people buy them other than teenagers, for various reasons.
The sedan version comes with 6 speed manual, I like the car, though the clutch release is really far up.
its a goddamn 2014 subcompact hatchback... stop complaining that it doesn't have push button start and that most surfaces you touch are hard touch plastic.
Can someone explain to me why Hyundai is responsible for overstating the MPG rating?? Doesnt the EPA certify the number??
This is why I don’t typically watch Redline for cars that I consider buying myself. You take on a very elitist model, even on a car that’s under $20,000. You never lower your expectations to be realistic to the genre of car.
Accent has been around longer than that Sir. Research
that voice... and such a negative. its a economy car enough with your name dropping premium usage.
next examiner.
People I have this cheap car as some call it but I have a DVD player sub amp nice system rims after market getting all that done now it's a real nice car and still saved money
I love how he said this feature is new for 2014, when he made this video in 2014 lmao
The Veloster shares its chasis with the Accent and IS available with the 1.6T. Problem solved
The Kia Soul, which essentially has the same engine, is not a bad engine. The car can get out of its own way.
42 mpg in my 2015 Accent with stick. That's average mpg city and highway.
Any autotragic transmission will kill your enthusiasm for the car and mileage.
Seats are fine and I'm 6'1" with no problems with my back. All the complaints for a car thats really this good for the money should be silenced. Never once have I heard the words 'fun to drive' about the newer Accents. Oh yeah that's because most people drive with autotragic transmissions. Maybe they should learn how to live a little bit and have some fun in their lives.
2theRedline can u do the 2015 subaru legacy? i want a good reviewer like u to see how the experience of that car is
I have owned this car. 26mpg in the city. and 40-46 mpg in the highway....
Give us a review of the new 2018 Accent...
MPG ? How's gas?
honestly none of the sub compacts appeal to me but i guess this one is good looking
Dude you complain alot. I own this same exact car but 2012 and im a huge fan of this car..hasnt given me no issues either
not all of us can afford fancy upscale cars. for many people this car is perfect, and that includes me. no crap it's going to be cheap on the inside!
It has 138 horsepower the most in its class
a lot of taxis in manila are hyundai accents
Toyota Vios
I highly doubt people that buy this car even know what a "car review" is. Sadly watching a video about plastic on wheels is a waste of time. (good warranty tho:)
great review!
Bumpy because the handling is top notch. You can't have it all man.
Ya that little wine 🍷 on start def.Def.. difnt 😂(aware it's now 2022)
How much does it cost now?
I have one it's a great little car I have it purely for commuting
I have the 2017 Accent. I don't feel it's cheap. It is amazing. coming from a Getz previously. You should stick to higher end cars so that they will suit your liking. "Lowering the expectation", "it's cheap", "Im not a fan"..yada yada yada... But.... this is your channel, so do what you do. Just had to comment coz you're sounding really annoying when you reviewed this.
Can you please do a base gls version of this.
Mine is getting only 24 - 25 city so far.
petty, petty, petty...contrary to what you stated I have a 2014 Accent SE with a manual 6 spd transmission. 40mpg. Great car, great price. Better car than you say it is...
I have a 2014 accent with almost 90k, I easily get 40+ mpg on the highway. He's not even trying to do a "good" review on this car. He obviously loves the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa and Ford Fiesta lol.
This is supposed to be conventional style auto trans.
I have the same car I have to admit if you have it on ECO mode oh boy the car feels like crap, and if you turn off eco to get the full power of the 1.6 liter GDI engine, I would say its passable.
It's better than a honda lol
comparing this car to my friends 2010 Honda fit
I have this verna face lift model 2015 4s fludic verna
