I do not own any of the media in this video. It is used for the purposes of critique and discussion.
Sorry about some of the editing errors in here - once I finished this video it somehow saved without my voice over track so I had to recut that and match everything up.
The reason it seemed strange that valentine and Dracula became more friendly so quickly was actually because of them semi making up as shown in valentines diary! It was an official piece of media that you can read. It describes him helping at an animal shelter and learning compassion, so he goes back to monster high to apologize - it also shows his first meeting with spelldon here!
I have read his diary as well as the graphic novel that comes after it! My question was not so much of the fact that he was redeemed (I've known this) as it was about Draculaura's lack of reluctance to accept him back within her social circle. But as I said in the video, MH villains tend to be forgiven rather quickly so it doesn't truly bother me.
@@thatponighoul oh my bad, I didn’t hear the diary referenced so I thought you weren’t aware. I don’t think she was super reluctant, she said she was just busy near the end of the comic. Totally understand what you mean though, most villains can be a bit rushed. I didn’t know there was a graphic novel, I’ll have to check that out!
@@LilPieceOfHeaven6 It's okay! And yes, she didn't seem very reluctant to me either, which is what I was talking about. Given their history I would have thought she'd be a tad more wary becoming friends again so soon. But like I said, this isn't unusual for MH or other stories in similar genres.
The graphic novel is called I Only Have Eye for You! It directly ties into Valentine's diary and is one of my favorites! I definitely recommend it.

I've been hearing rumors that Mattel is testing the Clawdeen and Toralei ship because of these two being very close in G3, thinking that G1 should try it out and see how well it would do.
At first glance I thought that was Beast Boy on the cover

And 100% agree on the Toradeen comic, I had the same feelings as you abt it, not against the ship for G1, just needs better development.
I wonder if the context of how they get together will be in the book, since it will be an important piece of info for the comics. Or in any future IDW comics.
I enjoyed Spellentines story too, it was amazing. I do understand that some didn't enjoy it, moreso due to the conflicted opinions of Valentine being the first proper gay rep and being a former villain, and his actions being considered almost irredeemable. But I am not that bothered by it, because...this is MH, villains are as easily forgiven with the power of frienship just like in MLP g4, so...I don't think applying real life morals and logic works here. And also, people liked his former personality more than this one.
So yeah, I just had fun and am eekcited to see what's next.
Also yes, I read Valentines lines with the loser baby voice XD. I actually forgot he was supposed to have the suave kinda southern accent style, haven't seen the movie in a while 😅😅😅
So, Mattel....Spelldon, Jackie Lope and Bridgett Rolle dolls when? 😆 seriously, I would love them, also yesss, more introverted rep with Bridgett, love to see it.

When you say the book are you referring to Once Bitten Twice Dead?
@thatponighoul yeah, that one. I mean, the comic seems to make very obvious references to it, mainly the reason why Draculaura is so distant and absent, I think that's supposed to reflect the event of Once Bitten Twice Dead happening/having already happened. Also, I remember the interview from the comics saying that, if one wants to know what to read in order to understand the comics timeline, is to read the diaries and the OBTD book.
@@natibir8586 That's what I originally thought too, but after the author for the main arc of the MH comics had a video on the official MH account that the comics are in the original storyline with the original ghouls I'm thinking that they probably aren't connected to the book. We will have to wait and see! I'm a bit confused on what exactly is going on with all that.
@thatponighoul oh, I didn't know the author has a video, will check it out. Hmm...I wonder if this is just the same spiel that heppens with all MH cannons, where certain elements from other medias will show up but they don't happen the same (best exp I can give is Venus, Rochelle and Robecca enrolling at MH all at once in Ghoulfriends, comapred to Friday Night Frights where Venus was already at MH, Rochelle transfers on the spot and Robecca is brought back to life- charcaters enrolling at MH is the constant, but the way it happened is different).
Maybe an aspect of the book Once Bitten Twice Dead will be part of the comics too, but the exact way it happens might not be the same way as in the book. If that all makes sense.

Call me crazy, but on some level I feel like the Ghoulia/Kjersti storyline was a preemptive response to readers over the Clawdeen/Torelia relationship. It got a lot of heat from the community before it was released and I think it may have been anticipated. People seem to like the ship for G3, but are not as interested in it for G1. I'm not really in the Monster High fandom, but even I got tiktoks and posts about people not liking it before the comic even came out, so the storyline being about acceptance in fandom felt like a convenient subject.
It's possible! Interestingly enough the other moral in the storyline, with Jackie telling Clawdeen there is no one way to be a couple also kind of felt as if it was preemptively responding to criticism. I doubt this was the intention but that was the vibe I got while reading. I think both morals make sense and are good to teach, but I also think discussion and critique of the execution of the relationship is valid!

Hi! The Spelldon and Valentine comic is part of the same issue as the rest! You can find it at your local comic store, or it should be available for purchase digitally as well! If your local library offers access to Hoopla it is on there for free as well.

I will never recognize Toralei and Clawdeen in a relationship g1 lore does not support they being together especially with toralei’s past transgressions. I would’ve cut their story completely and just replaced it with those two original characters they introduced

Currently Spelldon and Valentine's felt better written to me, but I'm interested to see how Clawdeen and Toralei are handled in the rest of yjr series!
