@@TheWayfarer00 yeah no money in early 20s. that stuff was still kinda expensive for the time.. in the 80s and early 90s jazzmasters and mustangs cost nothing. Kurt Cobain apparently paid $50 for his competition blue mustang. and they're getting more expensive by the minute now
Dude this mustang sounds so amazing. What the hell... I mean I love Mustangs, they have their own sound going on and I love it but yours sounds absolutely amazing. You’re so lucky, don’t ever let that one go.
Pickup winding was very inconsistent back in those days. A set of good repro pickups would do a dull sounding Mustang good. Many brands make good vintage Mustang pickups. I feel Mustangs and AC30's are synonymous.
I bought a Squier Bullet FSR Mustang last month and i think they made a mistake at the factory. It has sustain for days. Even unplugged it's really loud and resonant. It just sounds way too good for 150 dollars. There are several qa issues with it such as sharp fret ends and a finish bubble on the back, but it sounds amazing. Especially the dual humbucker setup. It's fat sounding. And twangy when you want it. It's like a sleeper metal guitar and a sleeper country guitar at the same time.
Get some fret work done for like $60 bucks and you should be good. As for the bubble, you have two options, get it fixed for cheap or just relic it over time because that adds ✨character✨.
No modern guitar should leave the factory with sharp frets. I would've wasted $150 and smashed it to bits if it were me. I can't remember the last time I played a cheap guitar with sharp frets but I've never played Squiers.
This was my first electric guitar. I played it through a Fender Bassman 2-Channel 50-Watt 2x12" Piggyback Guitar Amp 1964 - 1966. What sounds! Wish I had kept that rig. Great to see this nice vid! Love your lessons too! You're a great teacher!
Its all in that Bridge and tremelo design and sound. Fantastic tone. You can never have too much natural treble response. Makes the tone knob really versatile and the neck PUP more usable.
Have you ever thought about starting another RUclips channel devoted to demoing pedals? I like that you aren't afraid to explore the more extreme sounds while maintaining a sense of musicianship.
I'm an oldster, age 70. I remember around 1968, I and some friends dropped in on another guy who played guitar. I recall sitting on his bed in his room and lying on the bed was a new copy of Cream's "Disraeli Gears" and a red Fender Mustang. I was envious as I couldn't afford a Mustang.
Not sure how long it's been in the picture but very glad to see you with an AC30! The AC30C2 is one of my most favorite amps, is my #1 amp for shows, and has sent all of my vintage blackface and brownface Fenders packing. It's bested many boutique amps, at least for me and my tonal desires, including my Z-Wreck that is long-gone due to this box of chime. In fact, I even prefer the AC30C2 over my 1964 AC30TB! Even better than the real thing, imho! My '91 "Vintage" model AC30TB is the only amp that tops it, and only by a hair. They sound nearly identical.
Excellent series so far, can't wait to hear about the rest of your collection. When you've gone through all of your guitars you can start dissecting the work of some of your favourite guitarists.... maybe?
I have the same one. Same year and same color. I really like the neck tone. You're right; if you experiment with pedals, you can get some great tones out of these.
@@ohcaptainmycaptain3019 it's such a beautiful form for a guitar but for some reason in my country all the mustangs cost like two month salary or for me better say 20 months of getting my grants.
Look into getting a Mosrite. I have a vintage Mark V 1965 model and a Japanese Mark 1 copy called a Mosrite Avenger by Firstman from about 1970. Some people don’t like them because pickups are super hot. You may like them.
The 24 inch scale means a stretch between frets 1 - 5 (f to a) is about 8mm less than on a 25.5 inch guitar. I can play for much longer and not get hand pain. Strings are looser, so a wholetone bend on the g string at 12th fret is 15% less force (using 009-042). I'm using a much cheaper squier bullet mustang. It has humbuckers, belly cut, arm chamfer, no tremolo.
Beautiful guitar, Adrian! But you were a bit remiss in not identifying the riff you played, "Guiding Light" by the massively influential (and criminally overlooked) guitar band Television. How about a lesson for Messrs. Verlaine and Lloyd? You probably don't have an hour and 20 minutes to go over "Marquee Moon", so how about "See No Evil" or Friction"? You're the best!! Learned a few Joy Division and Happy Mondays songs thanks to you!!! (And would love something off of first Lloyd Cole and the Commotions album too, 'cause I'm a greedy bugger. 🙃 Gratefully, Peter in Saunderstown
So I was just browsing your channel to see your stuff, and I noticed in this vid.. I have the exact same f'ing little cat that moves it's paw when powered by sunlight (the one that sits atop your amp) lol :)))) So I subbed :D
I like this guy's tremolo style... some people do deeper and faster tempo "tremolo" stuff, but I like the shallower undulations like this guy did. It's a hypnotizing effect, and it's beautiful... I bought a used Vintera 60's Mustang, and it's on it's way; however, guy lost the trem...
As Adrian, I was intrigued by the easy-going Mustang and liked the offset body, so I got one that was made in Japan. Excellent craftsmanship, but I soon discovered the scale is too small for me, even if it does feel comfortable at first to play. Also, bridge set up is a bit of a nightmare. To top it up, sustain is poor. I guess one should spend time in coupling it with the right set of amp and distortion pedals. I am not into looking for fancy sound effects, so the pick up out of phase experimenting does not attract me. In conclusion, I keep it for the collection, but I play it rarely.
I have one on my list of guitars to buy but admit it's almost novelty. I have a Yamaha as my do everything guitar. The Mustang would be fun to play from time to time. A Jazzmaster is a huge upgrade and the MIJ Jazzmasters are wonderful just as you would expect. Those Fenders are built by Fujigen or FGN guitars and FGN is the only guitar company I know that sells a made in Japan guitar with a compound radius for less than $800. I love FGN basses specifically. The MIJ Fujigen guitars will only increase in value as the years pass by.
I've had a few Japanese Reissue Mustangs. They're pretty amazing and unique guitars, if you figure out how to adjust the floating bridge and the tremolo system properly. I liked to keep mine stock. Tried the Cobain-mod once and put a JB-Junior humbucker in the brige position, which sounded just awful.

Johnny Winter played Mustangs for most of his early career as far as electric goes. Most old videos you will find playing Fender Mustang like the one your playing and the same color. I want one and there are not a lot out there right now aside of a bunch of money for a vintage Fender like yours and that is out of the question. I already have my jewel in the case. It's not Fender or Gibson either and it has gone up value by at least 500% since I bought in new in 1980. Served me well when I was active but that guitar will never see a bar room again.
