Diesel relies on heat made by compression to ignite. Gasoline is ignited by a spark. The colder the temperature the harder it is for a diesel to get the neccessary heat to combust the diesel fuel. Diesels have glow plugs to pre heat the combustion chamber to aid with startup. Hence the waiting before starting.
E34 and E46 need new glow plugs! Everyone else seems to be in good terms. Please take good care of her!
nr 2 is f31 but ok
Cool video
Why are Diesel engines harder than gas engines to start when they are cold?
