It is amazing how some people maintain their vehicles yet expect them to be flawlessly reliable and to start instantly in bitterly cold weather!
To be fair, the engine in my truck is in great shape, yet the check engine light has been on since 2008

Why do GAZ cars seem to have problems with oil pressure...?

Yeah, if I lived in a place where it got that cold for that long, I'd use the lightest modern synthetic I could get my hands on, especially to maybe keep a bit more oil in the engine until the rest in the sump can catch up. Yikes. May kill your battery and stress the starter, but having to crank and crank gets more oil where it needs to be when it does catch.
