Just did a 20x swap about a month ago got about 800mi on so far on 18psi wanted to tell ya you can also run ej255 solid cam gears with cams as well mines doing well def keep posting bro !!!!
Q: Swapped in a 2008-2014 EJ20X into my 2005 Baja Turbo AT in '20. I need new PCV hoses - Flatirons sells silicone hose kits ($120-240) for each model/yr. - which do I buy? which will work with EJ20X? Not sure what my swap guys did? Did u get your garage going? (ps. Wicked Matt did my tune - things been going good - xcept low end torque of course:). Great summary - thanks?
I'm planning to do this swap with my 05 LGT and get a JDM ECU to use the exhaust AVCS. With this in mind, will I need to set the teeth back on it, or set the timing as normal?
Had an ej20x swapped into my Lgt about 7k miles ago. So far so good except the place who did the work cut alot off corners I'm still trying to iron out. Chasing my tail trying to figure out proper vacuum line routing.
@@FOFRacing Right on man. I stopped down a few months ago, you and your bro helped me out. Silver Lgt wagon, turbo had a little shaft play. Vac line from my bpv is going straight into intake manifold where the pictures I see it goes into a t-fitting. Maybe I can stop down soon and compare lines.
Not sure if you know but you can run oem top feed setup from 08+ wrx or 07+Lgt if you wanna do it on a budget. Just an idea for whenever you get to it on your car. That's what I'm doing on mine.
Yes that was my exact plan, I think I explained that in another one of my videos I did. Just need to swap over your cars engine harness and you’re good to go 🤙🏾
I still prefer how the ej255 drives. I’m no engine torque expert. But. I have a 255 in my 2014 Wrx and a 20x in my 04 wagon. The 20x is great. But. I still think the 2.5 is better.
Great video, I can vouge for most your info as we have done 3 ej20x swaps, two in LGT's and one in a 09 WRX. All ran great. There is also a FB group Subaru JDM engine swaps, would be great to link your video there. I do have a question. Is there an advantage to swapping the exhaust cam gears to the USDM and plugging the oil passages vs just changing timing 2 teeth CCW on the JDM?
I did swapped an ej20x to a wrx 2014. Swap whole intake and parts with the USDM that came on the ej255. I'm using the vf52 with the oem Unequal length header, 650cc injectors and I have good numbers on the accessport 2 months using it and feels very good. Now I am going to order a 340lph Fuel pump before tune it. My actual goals are 300hp +/-10. I have catless downpipe and custom exhaust. Cobb boost controller, custom Perrin inlet intake, and OEM filter box with Apexi dry freeflow filter. Do you think I do need something else to reach 300hp?
Hey sorry to bug you .. what kind of timing belt should I buy ? I have no clue of what car model parts would fit this ej20x engine .. I google ej20x and find nothing
i ran into a issue hope you can help my mechanic is a old fart and we do not have the ability to pull off parts of a 255 so the turbo doesn't fit my piping and my mechanic dont wanna take off the turbo cause 1 its bigger and 2 he doesn't wanna use the old turbos off the 20x that we have for spares so i ordered a piping to fit that turbo and jave to weld it onto the uppipe to fit so after that whats the other major problems we might run into considering we cant pull stuff off a 255
This mechanic messed up my engine so the put in a ej20x . I'm getting these code p0244, p0457,p0128,p1086,. They told me I need to do a tvg delete . And get it tune is this gonna fix all these check engine codes ? Please help this for 2004 subaru forester xt
Couple questions - When doing the swap do you need to change the cam sprockets and use the timing belt components from the ej255 and put them on the ej20x with the usdm harness? One more thing, the exhaust AVCS sensor that I can’t use because of having an original single AVCS engine. What is the best course of action do I need to block any thing? I was planning on getting a tune to help fuel delivery after and hope it won’t make the engine run less efficiently over time
I answered your first question in the video stating you don’t need to swap any cams or gears to get it to run. Just needs a tune and a 255 timing kit and 2.0 waterpump. For the exhaust AVCS you can leave the sensor in and let it be unplugged.
@@FOFRacing gotcha thank you I heard that I was just confused. So, I should take off the idler pulleys and tensioner From my 255 and put them on the 20x? I probably just need a timing belt right? maybe I don’t need the whole kit? I’ve heard the ej25 water pump working but you recommend using the water pump that comes on the jdm engine?
@@skidim8143 buy a whole new timing kit, don’t cheap out or you’ll pay for it later. Buy a 2.0 WRX waterpump because that’s what you should use. You’ll have to block off one of the ports on the 255 waterpump, so why hack it together? I don’t recommend reusing timing components as you have no clue the history of them or the condition of the pulley bearings
@@Batitoh first off it’s a secondary air pump system, for when you need info on it later. Secondly, you can swap it over if you want and have all of the pieces from your old motor
Both of the tuners I used to go to recommended 2 teeth. It’s been so long since I’ve done any of this, but as far as I remember it gave extra degrees of timing adjustment for the intake cams.
I just did this swap for my 2005 legacy GT .. how do I get my check engine light off ? I brought the engine from jdmengine zone in New Jersey .. it didn’t come with a 02 sensor so my check engine light is on .. the engine fit in perfectly.. all my mechanic had to do was run the engine on 1 solenoid and leave the other unplugged like you said and he had to extend the crankshaft sensor wire to be able to plug it in .. also what gas should I run this engine off ? I put 93 in it and it started shaking a little at first
Should’ve swapped over your turbo/ manifold/ downpipe setup and kept your 02 sensor. There should’ve been no reason to extend the crank sensor. Run 93, it’s shaking because you don’t have a 02 sensor hooked up
Damn .. jdm engine zone was saying to keep the 2.0 turbo set up .. I had to buy a flank for a ej20x because my 2.5 flank didn’t fit around the turbo for the 2.0 .. so I brought the flank for the 2.0 and then welded a pipe to the mid pipe to close out the exhaust .. everything else is running excellent .. it’s just some times I start the car it shakes a little .. is there anyway I can fix this ? I don’t have my original engine no more ..
Great vid, man! I have been reading 1 or 2 teeth on exhaust timing, so I set it at 1 tooth retarded. Do you think that is enough or should I go another tooth? I decided to use the included VF38 twin scroll because my old turbo was cracked. I welded a bung into the header for upstream O2 because there wasn't one. Do you know of anyone using the VF38 style? I purchased a downpipe to fit the flange of the VF38, so everything is bolted up except that I'm waiting on a JDM intercooler, since of course that is different as well and the compressor side flange is offset compared to VF40. Have a great day.
Tuned one i did to 362whp and still going 5 years later.
My 20x has lasted 1 year plus and I daily drive it tuned by Jacob aswell he did a great job car runs flawless
On a 13 wrx
Who’s Jacob tune for like company wise?
What spark plugs you used for the ej20x i have a swap on my legacy gt and i want to know any help pls saprk plugs and coils thanks
@joeyortiz757 use stock ej205 spark plugs and coil packs you use the stock ej255

Highly recommend a protune the timing on the cobb maps are super spicy for the ej20 motor due to the compression like alex said in the video
