    I think the main problem with this system is that winner takes all for every state. In that case, you are not representing the voters properly.

    • @comicuniversal9389
      @comicuniversal9389 4 года назад

      Yes that should be reformed.
      I mean Canada has a good system but you need 3 major parties(In Canada we have New Democrat, Liberal and Conservative) for it to work because you don't vote for Prime Minster instead you vote for your areas rep. in Parliament and whichever party has the most seats gets there party leader as Prime Minster.

    I don't live in the US, so here's a couple questions: Do the Electors (for the primaries) and the Delegates (for the presidential vote) have campaigns of their own? Do people actually know who they are?

  • @lutherd
    @lutherd 6 лет назад +1

    Screwed up the electors part, but other than that, essentially correct.
    A state never has “x number of electors supporting a Democrat and y number of electors supporting a Republican.” All electors will be made up of partisan supporters and are selected by the political party whose candidate won the state’s election. So in the video’s example, there won’t be six Democrats and four Republicans as electors all voting for the winner, but if the Democrat candidate wins, all ten electors will already be Democrats supporting (presumably) their party’s candidate.

      @Deborah Lancaster Are you uneducated? This is objectively not the best voting system a democracy can have. Popular vote doesn't decide who gets to be the president, a huge chunk of votes is not even taking into consideration and not every vote has the same weight. A republic is per definition a state that is run democratically. This however is completely contradicting a fair democratic process. Small parties don't even have a chance because of the 'winner takes all' principle. Howver, corruption is also legal in your country and most americans don't understand politics enough to do something about it, so why am I even arguing with you.

      JK Low not really. It's designed to protect smaller states. See without it a candidate could only focus on four states, not get a single vote in say West Virginia or Montana and still be elected president.

    • @baab4229
      @baab4229 7 лет назад

      Which will lead to small states being happy and the big ones unhappy?

    • @warrenrhinerson6373
      @warrenrhinerson6373 7 лет назад

      Not really.(sorry it took so long to get back to you) The problem is, without the system we use, you could focus on just arg cities, and thats it. If you look at the map broken up into how many counties each candidate won, Clinton only won large cities. Infact, in New York, she only won NYC, in California she only won the east coast and captial city, in Washinton, she only won Seattle, yet all these states had their electorial votes go to CLinton despite losing the vast majority of the states

    • @baab4229
      @baab4229 7 лет назад

      I don't understand how single cities matter. 60% of the population did not and does not support the current administration. That's not my opinion. How do you want to build a politically stable country if the majority wants another president?

    • @warrenrhinerson6373
      @warrenrhinerson6373 7 лет назад

      The reason why single cities matter, is because in some large states, thats where the vast majority of their citizens live. Let's take a look at New York for example. There are about 62 counties in New York, Clinton only claimed 14 of them, while Trump claimed 58. With the exception of one, all the counties Hillary won were just New York City. Also the claim that 60% is somewhat misleading. according to one of the most accurate political polls, Trump's approval rating is rangng between 44% and 59%, while his "strongly approval rating is what is reported on the news. I think an ammendment to the Electorial College might be in order, where the electoral votes are won, not by popular vote alone, but the number of counties each canadate won in the state. Say if Canadtes John Marshall and Benijiman Asher(fictional presidents from the films Air Force One and Olymbus has Fallen) were running, If Marshal won more counties in Virgina that Asher, that Marshal should get that states electorial votes. If Asher won more counties in Florida than Marshal, that Asher should get Florida's electorial votes.

    • @nganbao5254
      @nganbao5254 8 лет назад +4

    • @hacehase
      @hacehase 8 лет назад +2

      I understand.
      the problem is people should think of other choices, especially at a time when everybody is busy making jokes about how the two major candidates are bad!!
      but I rarely found anything about other candidates. I just read their names once or twice.
      I think the fight between independents and various parties had existed for sometime in American history; and I think it should come back.
      regarding my question, I just wanted to say that a video like this should explain the general system of the election, not only following the famous idea; I think people should be encouraged to look at the various choices.

    • @hacehase

You say in some states everybody, in other states only elected voters may vote for the one they want as presidential candidate, but then you also say that these votings where the candidate is determined are not done by the electorate, but only by the delegates. So what? How is the candidate determined?

  • @johnny30806

    So basically the American people could elect Candidate 1,,, but If candidate 2 gets more electoral votes, then Candidate 2 becomes president. Yep sounds like the whole system is Rigged to me. Wait. So in the case "winner takes all" 4 electors, who did not support the candidate A, would still be counted as supporting him, because 6 were in favour of the candidate A? Did I understand that correctly? And no one has problem with that? If one state has 10 and another one has 20 electors, according to their population size, and in the first state 4 electors support candidate A, while in the second 11 are for candidate A, what then? It is 15:15 in such case, but if "winner takes all" candidate A wins 20:10. Please, tell me I got it wrong, this is not ok.

All I know is during the election everyone is always freaking out making sure they make it to vote even though I truely believe the peoples votes dont matter in the actual election vote its just a hoaks to make all the people who vote every year the belief that there voice and opinions matter in deciding who should be in charge of keeping our nation alive and running smoothly. I believe our votes arent used at all its just to satisfy us.

See after world war 2 congress added that rule so presidents don't stay in two long as president Roosevelt was elected four times(died at the start of his fourth term). Also Trump isn't the one who's going to start World War 3, Hillary Clinton would have with her "no fly zone" policy and threaten Russia with military action if they were accused of hacking.

      for the democratic party yes. HOWEVER, you have to remember super delegates which btw is so undemocratic bc these super delegates do not have to listen to the people of the state they are representing.

      So if people from California want Bernie Sanders as a majority, he gets most of the delegates in that state but super delegates from California do not have to represent their people. They can literally vote for Clinton bc they want to. That's why she got 400 super delegates before the entire presidential election even began.

      @Deborah Lancaster "mob rule" ... America is not a free country, you guys don't have a real democracy, are like rank 48th on freedom of the press, most of your media is owned by billionairs who propagate a neo-liberalism and you are too blind to realize that it's all bullshit. I mean corruption is pretty much legal in America, yet nobody does something to prevent it. Both of your parties are falling completely align on 90% of the issues. Pathetic.

    You want to go for a political position and you don't have any form of spiritual backing I must tell you what a joker you are because you will not only lavish your money on campaign and end up not winning you will as well be endangering your life and that of your family. Chief Wole does it all for those of us in Africa and a few from western countries and today he's made me deputy secretary general in the U.N, this is how it works!
