I actually feel kinda sentimental. The 3.0 era was when I first joined the Splatoon community, it's nice to know that I joined at the peak of the game.
Its completely doable. Pirates have achieved every single version of this game (and every other switch game) and thanks to the work of some amazing modders a completely vanilla switch can host its own match without connecting to Nintendo's servers just by changing your switch's dns setting. All we need now is for someone to organise a tournament!
Honestly with how both of Splatoon 2's new weapon classes had top tier representation in this meta, and how it was generally just... good to play in, I'd say this was perhaps the most iconic era of the game.
@@anjavinding5412 Why bother using the Aerospray PG when you can use the Kensa .52 gal? Kensa .52 gal paints better meaning it gets booyah bombs more than the weapon that was meant to paint a lot, that's not a joke, and on top of that it has splash wall and an absurdly fast kill time. That's just how broken it is.

Also, vids like this make me even more excited for splatoon 3. With so many more people in the competitive space now making content, imagine how comprehensive future look-backs on splatoon 3 patches would be!
I kinda stopped paying attention to the comp scene a bit around this time, despite still playing the game a ton, so I never got to realize that there was a golden age even happening at the time. God I wish I played more competitively back then.
THIS is where I spent the last half of my experience of Splatoon 2 when I dropped out due to NSO. I loved it, and I wish I bit the bullet and paid for NSO so I could of been there for the game to grow instead of coming back to MPU Kensa hell
wow i got this game pretty late and didn’t know a lot of these weapons cool gimmicks weren’t even in the game at first until patch 3.2, that really is probably the best patch of the game i wish i played during that time, the diversity looks so refreshing. seeing so many teams without armor looks surreal
It was around this time that I picked up Splatoon up for the first time in my life. Not just Splatoon 2, but either game in general. I picked it up after after a friend convinced me with how many unique weapons there are. Seeing this, it really paints a picture at what a rough turn the meta has taken and how boring it would appear to newcomers with the current meta because of how seemingly one note it is. High hopes for Splatoon 3 to get things back on track.
Thank you for making these history videos. As someone who started playing right when the kensa weapons were getting added I missed out on a lot of this and it's super interesting to see what the game was like back then.
4:00 I hope they do something similar with backlines in splat 3 since we have a bow now. For example: splatling counters bow Bow counters charger and charger counters splatling.
Good shit. Unrelated I watched some of that three hour FLC video and highkey he really said Splat one was bad because you could 1 v 4 with invincibility, Splat 2 is bad because you can't and hopefully 3 won't be bad lmao
Splat 1 was good bc it gave the player more playmaking power. Not to mention you won't get invincibility specials all the time bc of QR meta. Aka you die a lot in splat 1. Splat 2 is bad bc of poor balance decisions. K 52, Armor and missiles spam. It screws over individual playmaking power a lot. That is why I hope splat 3 has a lot of individual playmaking power, maybe a little team play. But I want it to be the more of the "skilled players wins," not the "better team players win from ability spam."
It's funny how back in 4.0 I was a bit negative about the game even though in hindsight it was my favorite version. I shouldn't miss a meta where Sting Ray was more... Sting Ray but at least then the weapons that destroyed my precious Blasters were actually fun to fight.
I'd argue, dispite this being way before Bamboo became full on meta, Bamboo was a great counterpick for dealing with Brellas and Blasters. Dualies gave some problems, but the damage buff from 80 to 85 made it slightly better in some situations, such as breaking brella shields and made it a even better weapon for pairing up, and could paint well enough to run circles around the custom blasters. Inkjets were still an issue, but Bamboo's output was enough pressure to hold them at bay if you knew the weapon. I'm happy to say I'm still a dedicated Bamboo User : ) 3.0 was durring the time when I was in a team, and while we weren't anything crazy, it was fun. I'm glad I was in comp durring those days, and I hope 3 gives other classes the limelight they deserve again ^-^
most of the time i spent playing splatoon 2 was around this era and it was really fun. i was still shit at the game for a good part of it but even so i still got to have a lot of fun. i really miss the good old days of the ballpoint splatling lmao
im not sure if the new mic is too quiet or if im just too used to the old mic being too loud, but it’s nice to hear one of ur vids with better audio quslity!
Your videos are usually around 8 minutes, which is the same amount of time it usually takes for me to finish my food. So whenever I’m looking for some thing to watch while eating, I’m always happy to see a notification from you. Thank you for making content, keep up the good work!
Chargers were just playing duck hunt but the ducks also had a gun for the majority of this meta. Everything else definitely had its best balancing though
I remember I first got into Splatoon 2 a month before this era and most of my play time consisted of this period, it would also be during this era that I would enter the only Splatoon 2 tournament I would ever enter, one that sadly fell apart partway through and never got to conclude, but the team I was on happened to be the one that got the farthest along in terms of matches before the whole thing died, so we could be considered the winners in an unofficial sense as it also turned out we seemed to be the strongest of the teams from what was able to be seen, though I still wished the tournament could have played out to conclusion to know for sure. All in all, a time period of good memories.
1:35 Range Blaster didn't get that 6% blast radius nerf actually. It was only to the regular blaster, so range blaster actually has a bigger blast radius than regular blaster, as odd as it seems
what surprises me about some of these changes is nintendo going out of their way to make brand new assets specifically for these changes, like the jr. having it's own unique ink tank model, the h3 having a new hit sound, the unique "shockwave" the stinger was given previously, etc. they could've just used the charger's hit sound for the h3, or have the increased jr. ink tank be solely a numerical increase, but it's nice to see they put some extra work into those changes.
Glad that this series of videos exists bc I dropped off Splatoon 2 hard around 4.0 due to losing my save data from having to send my Switch in for warranty and not having a way to back up the data. Thankfully I have a second Switch now so that will never be a problem for me again.
Rewatching this series is giving me hope for splatoon 3. It's reminding me that 1 and 2 were also janky at launch, and that 3 is as good as it is right now is an achievement. Sure, there's room for improvement, and nintendo will certainly be improving it for a long time to come, just as they did with this game
I love these videos it makes me think about splat 3 meta and how comp will be I hope we get to see different weapon being used in solo q in 3,because in 2 right now it just shooters, no blaster, roller ,and brella (I really miss when my friends used this weapon with me.)😟
Not a topic in this video, but a question: do you think that the meta would have been considerably different outside of Japan if the CJet saw use there? You know how that saying goes: If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.
Nintendo tried to fix it anyway.
And at the same time neglecting what actually needs fixing.
I actually feel kinda sentimental. The 3.0 era was when I first joined the Splatoon community, it's nice to know that I joined at the peak of the game.

yea having a lot of brella/dualie rep really helped it stand out
I miss those days, now it's all like mpu spam, stingray spam and ink armor spam and K52 and neo splash and stuff
I love neo splash
Also aerospray pg

The 3.1 Patch was there more or less because that was when the Octo Expansion was released. So that is (likely) why there were few changes.

I miss the golden era
This was the time in which i dropped off the game... that 6% blaster nerf felt huge to me at the time
happier times
im glad that this was when i initially got into the game.
I played ballpoint exclusively during this whole era and dropped it after it became meta. Fun times
I love these vid cuz it’s fun to learn about a meta without armor being 100% needed there are 0 comps rn without armor and the game is kinda dumb

This... is something I will never be able to see this glory.
I mained Emperry back then for some reason. I did not know metas existed. I just happened to get attached to it.
I forgot about the reef only having a single zone before!
S3 is close, but Stringers and Brellas are so weak rn.

90% of when I get splatted is because of k52, i now wish that weapon got a nerf

too long for 1 comment tbh id have to think about it a while

i havent seen a player use tenta brella in a while...

yes, now its an actual mic instead of a headset mic

bombs
