You like the tubular loading? Henry knows most people don’t like it but it appears as though they have already manufactured so many rifle magazine tubes they don’t want to chuck them as a tax writ off so they try to convince customers that both are great!

The lever action is typical of a Henry. It's caused by the lever safety releasing, the bolt pushing back the hammer and the ejector pushing against the bolt when operating the lever. Although it's noticable when operating the lever in slow motion, you don't notice it during normal operation. Keep the action oiled and keep working the lever. Over time it will get smoother. You can also smooth out the internals and add lighter springs to reduce the problem. A Marlin spring kit works just fine. I love my Henrys. They are great guns. And nobody treats their customers better than Henry.

I've been shooting my Henry Big Boy .44 magnum for several years, reload for it and am shooting my rounds for about $0.40¢ @. The side loading gate has no value to me as the tube loading is much faster loading/unloading. A friend with a 30-30 Marlin could not load His side gate model as fast as I could the tube. Smooth action once you get some rounds through it.

The old Marlins were great. I have a 336 SC in .219 Zipper, but I would not buy a new one. Both Marlin and Winchester bent over for the democrats by installing a useless cross bolt "safety." The Henry centerfire lever guns use a transfer bar and their rimfire lever guns use the old tried and true half cock safety.

For what it is worth, my experience with Henry's is the 22lr carbine lever gun.
First the lever action is smooth, because I have shot it a lot. I remember that it was "rough" the first 200 or so, but like a revolver it wore in rapidly. As you well know 22lr is also rimmed and one thing I noticed was that the lever had to be run with "authority" to ensure the best feeding of a rimmed cartridge. The take-down for the 22lr is probably different that the 30-30, but the procedure for mine involves removing the lever and a couple of screws for the action housing to remove the bolt. I think it is a good idea to do it every once in a while to clean the lifter, that is the dingus that carries cartridges from the tube to the chamber mouth for the bolt to load them into the chamber when the lever is run. I don't have the technical terms, sorry. ( I am not trying to be funny).
The rifle has been very accurate with good CCI ammo, which it seems to like. It likes the mini-mags in 40 grain the best. I like the sights which are basically a notch which is adjustable for windage and elevation. My front sight is surrounded by a housing which is great.
I have owned some Marlins and a Winchester. They are gone now, but the Henry stayed. Sorry, this isn't about a 30-30, but hopefully it is useful.
Thanks for your time. I enjoyed the video.

That gun is just to damn pretty to shoot, OR field strip. The tube feeder is why I bought my Marlin 1895 “shoulder buster” (45-70) because it was a side loader, and it has the big loop lever. In retrospect, these rounds were pricey before all this madness went down, so now it’s a good thing I had some stacked away with my stache of .357 mag. I am ashamed to admit that my relationship with .30/30 is based on owning a Mossberg 464 SPX 😅 What a red hot mess this lever gun is! LOL With my Marlin, the action smoothed out over time, and about 150-200 rnds through it. Regarding Henry’s I don’t know. All I can say about 30/30 is that it’s a well proven deer hunting round, so it’s nothing to look down on!

That catch is their on every lever gun. What you are feeling is the raised portion on the bolt that ensures the hammer is cocked, it will be felt 2 times during the working of the lever. On the 1873 and 1866 the firing pin extension is tapered where it contacts the hammer so it is not felt. I have 1 of those in 38-55 smooth as silk and very accrete out to 200 yards. I have a Winchester 94 Buffalo Bill commemorative in 30wcf with a 26 inch octagon barrel and it holds 10. I reload so ammo price and shortages don't affect me much. Get into reloading and you won't have to worry about the price of 30-30. I have an slightly older Henry in 45 Colt before the side gate. I am an average shot, but with this Henry I shot 5 rounds dead center at 50 yards, 1" group, a record for me. I want to get a Henry in 45-70 with the side gate. I have a Marlin 45-70 and it was punishing before I learned of Trail Boss powder, now it is so much nicer to shoot with the lower recoil. That Trail Boss powder makes all the difference. Once you get into reloading, besides saving money and not having to worry about ammo shortages, you will see how great it is when you can tailor your round to how you like to shoot and fine tune accuracy with different loadings. regards, NS.

I handled Henry in 357 mag and action was smooth but watching lot's of vids I've seen quite few hang-ups which people ignored. Plus current prices for Henry were close to Winchester so I've got Winchester. I got a lot of handloads for 30-30 but with pointed bullets I loaded for single shot Handi Rifle B2. GB, that stiffness in the lever that so many (most) of the Winchesters and Marlins have had for a long time can be fixed with a trip to the right smith, one who specializes in those guns. I had it taken out of a couple of mine. But the gun that comes slick right from the factory, the Winchester Model 64, is so expensive now that the only way I ever get to play with the action of one of them is at the Cabela's.

Awsome video GB!!; About lever action rimfires, Henry's one is quite a bit similar to one produced by Erma Werke in Germany, back in the 1.980's as far as I can remember. Probably Mr. Imperato purchased patents to produce his own version, which is ok with me. Personally, (since I DO have a very tender spot for lever actions), nothing compares to the smoothness, reliability and accuracy of the Original Winchester 9422 and its variations, of which I still have a 24" Bbl Classic one in my collection. Second to it, the timeless Marlin mod. 39 family. In a good day, my 9422 with good ammo is a 1.25 MOA rifle, which is not too far from my Anschutz (Match 54 bolt action) .22lr. My father-in-law's newer Henry lever in 41mag is very smooth. My Marlin 30-30 which is also a newer model is also very smooth. Strange to hear that about yours. Sorry, I have no help for you in that issue. The 41mag my father-in-law has, looks just like yours except with an octagonal barrel. Beautiful guns.

I would love to buy a Henry but they don't make a carbine that can fire 454 Casull. They should have a gun that can fire 454 Casull and 45 Colt. The Citadel 92 is probably going to beat them to market.

I picked up a Henry Big Boy back in August. It's the only lever rifle I've ever fired, so I can't compare it to anything else. The action on it is similar to what you're showing in this vid. My seems to have smoothed out quite a bit with use. Or maybe I've just gotten used to it. I don't see it as a gun that you will ever be able to shoot particularly fast, and if yours is anything like mine it's going to throw fits. It's like driving an old car. Far from perfect, but a boatload of fun.

Putting ones hand in front of an unloaded gun to load the firearm is not unsafe. Except for people who don't understand machinery. For them is seems to be terrifying.

Nothing detrimental intended here, intended usage should always be kept in mind. This rifle was not designed with optics or long range shooting as a goal. As a firearm vendor in the seventies, the 94 Winchester and similar rifles were sold as brush guns to be used for hunting in thick woods. Which they do admirably. Many whitetail have been taken with the trusty old "thirty-thirty".

All six of my Henry lever guns are tube fed, and I'm fine with that. Three of them are .22 RF and the other three are chambered for handgun cartridges. Personally, I would not want a .30-30 with a tube magazine because I prefer a pointed bullet in .30 caliber. (Handloading solves a lot of problems.) I do own a couple of .30-30s but one is a single shot H&R Handi Rifle and the other one is a Magnum Research BRF revolver. I can also imagine some people having problems with a box fed bolt action .30-30, since I saw a RUclips video on a SMLE where the guy was not competent enough to load the rims in front to the round below. I never heard of anyone making that sort of mistake with the rimmed Mosin Nagant.

People have gone Bat Crap Crazy concerning 'firearms safety' during the last 10 years!
I started shooting when I was a kid, owned semi-autoloaders in 22LR (Glenfield, Marlin) and shot the daylights out of them!
They had Tube Load just like your Henry and guess what, despite having shot TENS of THOUSANDS of rounds through them, I don't have a single hole in either of my hands! Neither do ANY of my friends from that era, nor does anyone I know have any holes in their hands, or fingers missing, etc., from having shot themselves while either loading or unloading their Mag Tubes!
    Why not?
We made SURE the chamber was EMPTY: if there isn't anything in the Pipe, it CAN'T go 'boom'!!!
We were taught LOGICAL, Basic Firearms Safety, NOT this EMOTIONAL CRAP that everyone and their friggin brother keeps screaming about 24/7/365. It's as if the SJW/Woke mindset has invaded gun owners minds and taken up residence; emotionalism taking precedence over COMMON SENSE!
I'm just friggin TIRED of the overboard, fanatical, OCD manic demand from such folks to abandon reason for emotionalism!
You're trained military, I've watched a bevy of your videos (and enjoyed them very much, so much so that I keep recommending you as a Primary Source for weapons purchases, ammo purchases, shooting techniques-dude, you can flat SHOOT!-) and I have NEVER seen you handle weapons in an unsafe manner, PERIOD!
Sorry for the rant, but I've lost count of the video reviews where the reviewer checks the weapon the proverbial Ba-Zillion Times to 'show clear', before getting down to the nuts and bolts, and it's not just tedious, it's insulting!
Anywho......I'm all for the sidegate/tube combo; easy 'in action' reloads using the sidegate and easy full unload after you're done! (especially on the pistol cartridge rifles......41 Mag or .44 Mag would be my choice, though .327 does look nice).
Oh yeah, one more thing, I keep hoping that Henry will chamber one of their rifles in .22 Hornet.....one of the most disrespected cartridges for varminting and small game around! It's good to 300 yards on small game and small fur bearers; ask me how I know!
Keep up the great work, because there are more than a few 'Rented' reviewers on YT, so I rely on you, Honest Outlaw, and a couple others for the unvarnished truth relating to weaponry and sundry goodies.
Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY

Thank you very much. I see the Henry update as adding feature. As far as the safety stuff on RUclips we (channels) catch flak for everything we do, both from the RUclips moderators and from all the comments. Those who show clear over and over are likely doing it to avoid RUclips censorship or comment hecklers.
