I’m a woman. Last year I paid for me and my family to go on a short vacation. Because I could. I invited so I paid. It’s not just the man’s job. Whoever can afford pays. Or you share.

@@mikeosinski50 I've noticed that trend, also. It also bothers me that people are referring to their spouses as "partners" and/or "significant others". For me, my husband is not an "other" nor is he just a partner. He's my husband. We are a team, we are partners, but to describe him as "other" or is just a partner just seems so cold and impersonal to refer to the one relationship that should be the exact opposite. Maybe it's just me.
If my husband ever asked why I don’t pay anything while we go on holiday, I’d think he was crazy. Our finances are all together so of course it’s both of our money, which means everything we do, it’s both of our money paying. I wouldn’t be able to stay with a man that says and does such stupid things

Hubs and I are the same way. We have the main checking account that both of our money goes into and from which we pay all the bills. Then we have each our own separate checking and savings accounts for our"mad money" as Grandma used to call it. Over the years sometimes I make more than him or he makes more than me - that all evens out in the end.
I know it's the fad these days for couples to keep their own money and split bills 50/50, That just seems like a very inefficient way to do it. We figured once we got married we were as one and we both contribute to the functioning of our family.

Me and my Wife role got changed because I got into a bad work accident and now I’m disabled, I am very thankful for her because there’s women out there that would’ve just ditched me over this and the same thing goes for men that would ditch women because of this

Everyone in this story pretty much sucks. From her friend Katie who gave terrible advice, to her MIL who claimed ownership because she bought them some furniture to her husband who didn’t put any money into and wanted part ownership. OP doesn’t get off scot free because she was expecting the fiancé to pay all the time because he was a man.
The wife seems to pay for everything already, including the house and house repairs. The husband put up such a fight over a few hundred dollars for his share of roof repair. I think if he paid for the vacation, since he doesn't pay any rent or repairs, and didn't purchase the house, that would be fair.

I always book mine and my husbands holidays and activities. He’s clueless when it comes to all that. I’m fine with it because during the holidays, he takes initiative in asking if I want something or if I like something. He will always buy it if I like something.

Even though the wife is in the right her tone throughout the story made her seem more like a fishwife rather than the protagonist she actually is. The husband sounded like a mommy's man child who never had a thought of his own while he regurgitated his mother's opinions using her words maybe even verbatim. It made the story of one unlikeable and unrelatable character to an even less likable, brainwashed and man child of a husband who couldn't phrase his own wants and needs without his mommy whispering in his ear.
Even if they weren't married he would have to pay for rent so helping to pay for maintenance or household expenses because he lives there too.
I also wouldn’t want to pay to repair something that I didn’t at least co-own.
People really need to understand it's fine to be considerate of other people feelings but if they don't consider your feelings, then all kindness is off. Reciprocity is the name of the game. Stop allowing people to take advantage of you and then feel some type of way. Sometimes, you have to demand respect.
