Good job on the repair but you need to keep an eye on it..
To be honest as someone working in shipbuilding i would have made 2 new nozzles out of aluminium if i wanted fancy or even mild steel if i wanted cheap and strong. Enough shops that can roll something similar and weld a nice connection plate and anode doubler.
With your power profile the nozzles are not critical. Any nozzle design shape would be sufficient for steering and propeller protection. These nozzles will come back to visit you again in the future and it is always at the most inconvenient time.
Still jealous as hell about your lifeboat find, this cat design is truly beautiful. Good luck and fun with your build.

@@Whateverpoopiepants fiberglass nozzles are ok design for a lifeboat that is occasionally used. For use as pleasure craft more chance to hit something and damage nozzles on impact due to shore proximity etc. A metal replacement wouyld be better choice taking above factors into consideration. No negative Nancy just 30 years experience with this shit.

This explains a lot about why my first attempt with fiberglass went so wrong 😂. Thanks for digging into all of the details!

Oh, what happened? My first try probably failed since I overdid the rolling and pushed all the resin out.

Hello from the Uk, great video, good to see techniques repeated around youtube. I like your project and I am finding it all very interesting. I intend to try and covert one of the orange lifeboats that was in the background of your video, into a houseboat/liveaboard, but thats when I can get together some funds to acquire one! Good luck and keep going. Thanks.

Also, where was the boat yard you were working in - for future reference.

Came for the Silent Yachts video, stayed for a fellow also doing an electric boat conversion (although yours is far more ambitious than mine!)

How are you going to insulate the bedrooms now you’ve stripped out the foam? Could you cut the big chunks of foam into thin slices to act as insulation? 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍

I'm using 50mm Armaflex all over the boat - the PU foam from the hull could be used as well, but it's not exactly fire retardant - I prefer something that buys me a minute or two if things go downhill

So the heart of gold is still beating... Looking at the nozzle, it seems to be slightly conical. Would it have made sense to create a negative mold and then create completely new nozzles?

    • @HeartofGoldLifeboat

Absolutely - I've been putting in 15+h every week lately getting her primed, next weekend I'll hopefully be able to apply the PU topcoat.
I think making a mould would have required to fix the shape of the original part first (otherwise the mould is crooked) - at that point why not keep the original part :)

What will you be doing about ballast? Take a look at sailing yada, they are pulling metal slag from a metal shop & putting them in plastic tubes.🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
