When I saw in the theater in New York in 87, I thought to myself this is as good or better than terminator. Still feel that way. Out of the box, storyline, and Schwarzenegger once again benefited from a top Director.
It’s unclear to me whether he knew who to select or whether a lot of it was just luck; James Cameron, for example, on the original terminator. He was an unknown then. It would be interesting to find out who chose his directors for those two best movies he ever made. Knowing of Schwarzenegger since 1970, I can confidently say he’ll always try to take maximum credit for everything; it would take the opinion of someone else to provide a good idea what actually happened
Quite simply your best critique. Truly outstanding. Arnie wore the exact same Seiko H558 ( known now as , surprisingly, the “ Arnie “) in Commando , Raw Deal ,Running Man and Twins . Mini guns don’t quite rip like that in real life … sadly;)
Thanks Eric for that high praise. Interesting fact about the watches too! I remember reading that Arnold was so enamoured of the mini gun that he requested its appearance again for Terminator 2
Awesome tribute to a masterpiece of a film. Unapologetically masculine. It's a film that will stand the test of time, considering the pale imitations we've had since, what with 'Prey' featuring a 100lb girl-boss who manages to take down and behead a predator 1v1 whereas Arnie barely escaped with his life, winning on a lucky fluke. It's a shame that we'll most likely never get films like these again. God do they hold up.
I just can't bring myself to watch any of those follow up movies. I tried with Predator 2 and it was awful. Any film with a girl-boss is instantly expunged from my watchlist. SIck of all this woke $hit not only ruining current cinema, but also destroying old classics with their narrative revisionism. Thanks again for watching Nomad
Another great one man! Love your work. My gf is a few years younger than I- she's 32, I'm just old, lol. Point is: She was born after so many great movies came out. So, I've been remedying that. Predator is currently free on Tubi. :) Surprisingly, she's loved a lot of it- even enjoyed the heck out of Commando- both for fun and to make fun of the continuity errors etc.
Same here mate. My girl is 20 years younger so I'm forever persuading her to catch up on the back catalogue of my favorite childhood/early adulthood films. Predator is one of the few that landed - the pacing of modern cinema with its lightning fast edits has crippled many younger people's ability to concentrate on, let alone appreciate many of the classics from the past
I recently tried watching predator 2 for the first time because I heard that it was also excellent - my lord, it was such a $hit sequel; no wonder Arnold passed on it
I gained a number of insights into the film, particularly the finale from your incisive and thorough review. I'm glad a larger audience can enjoy your brilliant review.
Thanks again for supporting the original vision. It was very hard to edit this one down to skirt the RUclips gate-keepers. I'm gonna take your request and tackle Conan next :-)
I'm honoured. It's a film I return to every few years not because of Arnold but due to the brilliant supporting cast and the many life lessons it contains.
Wow I never knew long tall Sally was a about a transsexual prostitute. Also how the predator being the invisible killer killing men in their prime like Aids. I never ever thought that. Great review and I hope you do the terminator film too. The first is the best.

It's the manliness man made movie man ever made in the history of man
Sums the film up Jsephnicolino Brilliant.
Absolutely. I can't think of another film that even comes close. A snapshot in time that will never be rivalled
@@andrewwelch1040 thank you. My bench goes up five pounds every time I watch it
@@josephnicolino8529 yes at 57 I have to donate Testosterone or I start fighting and fucking after watching 1987 Predator.
Insightful analysis and deconstruction of a film. One of the few films I've convinced my teenage son to watch with me.. He loved it.
And special thanks to you for supporting my original vision when I released it on the Coffee page a few months ago 🙏
@@carvedouttastone Good content deserves support😎

no love interest. no comic relief. just big dudes fighting a big alien. The way the good Lord intended.

Good point. Arnold may not have had the best acting chops, but he knew how to select the best people to work with for maximum impact.

Never been matched by any of the remakes, all pale imitations of the original Masterpiece.

As per usual, excellent stuff.

The Expendables
@@joebreen8818 oh God no! Awful, lol. Sorry I can't watch that one unless you want me to roast and rip the $hit out of it

Thanks mate. I'll tackle Conan next but will definitely keep the original (and best) Terminator in mind for future analysis
Have you ever seen
Action Jackson?
Nah, there's huge gaps in my early movie history due to an extreme religious upbringing that barred me from watching some of these formative classics
Remember all the celluloid flickers and blips at the cinema...on the screen

Interesting you would mention the AIDS epidemic at the time. That's what Kevin Peter Hall died of.
