I just ordered a 3 series in January of 2018. I had to order from Germany because no one in the US seems to want to drive a manual transmission. While I'm getting updates about my car, I'm not seeing pictures of it yet, something the guy at the dealer said I would eventually get to see. This shows me what's been happening the past few weeks. Thanks for posting!
Yes! I've had it for just over one month now, and I'm having a blast! Its maiden voyage was on the Angeles Crest. Its a winding road that's a car, and motor cycle racing dream. (except for when you're behind a Prius.) I've also taken it up to Mulholland drive a couple of times. Thanks for asking! And thanks again for posting. :-)
This is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I've been a BMW owner since 2005 Just got a 2015 228i I know no one cares. Anyway, the factory is both fascinating and scary at the same time. I was also amazed at how quite it is in there. Hey they don't eat, go to the bathroom, get drunk, call in sick, reminds me of the Terminator!
That could be my car!!! i have 320d in white, love it, does everything well, and is still fun to drive, never get tired of it, and i'm a fussy guy with cars
If you have an F30 from 2011-2015 with an N20 or N26 motor. Your timing chain guides will fail, and when they do your engine will be destroyed. Make sure you keep an eye out for this known fault with the engine. The cost to replace the timing chain guides is over $3,000 USD.
What happens with the spot when the painting robot closes the doors? You can see an example of it at 8:39. Why not paint the inside first, close and paint the outside? Hopefully this process is improved by now.
Two years later. I worked as a Union painter in my 20's. I also worked at the Chicago Assembly Plant. They assemble the Ford Explorer. I found this and hope it answers your question. Technologies Used to Apply the Coating Painting robots use different methods of turning the paint or coating into a fine mist. This is important for an even application. Here are the most common technologies used: Air spray - a stream of air is mixed with the coating to break the fluid into fine droplets. Most common for paints. Ultrasonic spray - an atomization surface vibrates at an ultrasonic frequency. The coating hits the vibrating surface and is turned into a fine mist. Used to apply insulation and conductive films on small products. Other uses include anti-glare coatings, photoresist, and various coatings with special properties. Electrostatic - the coating fluid is charged with thousands of volts of static electricity in the nozzle. Electrostatic repulsion turns the liquid into a mist. The mist is attracted to the surface to be coated by an opposite electrical charge. With this method, an even coating can be applied to uneven surfaces. The efficiency is remarkably high, with little paint wasted. I to noticed the painting nozzles not spraying like a traditional car painter as well. Being an ex-painter I new there was some advanced level of spraying going on.
bmw 320d.... very pleasant,,, maybe the most easy going... I just lay back and enjoy it... just love my 12 year old 200 k km aut 320d... average normal maintenance... effortless power delivery from low revs... musical... very secure car... enough acceleration to have fun... very light sensation... it flies to me... very musical,,,, don´t recommend M or race suspension... just average 19´ tires...the best for bumps and road holes... so confortable... I don´t like faster cars... make you aggressive... I could have any other "better car" but no way... will never change model... just has perfect equilibrium... less is more... minimalist... zen... and just love that power from low revs... my next baby... white color... safer than any other color... and with best sound system harman kardon... and family car... touring... what else... mozart playing inside...
BMW might get around 40% - 50% margin from every unit sold, but my country in Malaysia, our government makes profit up to 300% from every unit sold due to 300% import tax!! One of the highest import tax in the world.
Wow!!! And I thought Norway was bad. You do have to pay sky high taxes on supercars, which doubles or triples the price, but the "normal" cars are somewhat ok with import and "NOX"-tax, but it's still expensive for many people to buy new premium makes here, even with a decent salary. Cause don't forget about all the road taxes. It's insane.
Only thing I can't stand about the 3 series is how cheap the materials are compared to a 7series. Considering what they charge for the car you'd think they'd improve the quality.

228, are you kidding, I care! That's a beast compared to most small cars out there. I'd trade my 316D for it, even though it's tuned quite well :D
I just love BMW
At 9:45 it's like watching paint dry! Great quality car
That could be my car!!! i have 320d in white, love it, does everything well, and is still fun to drive, never get tired of it, and i'm a fussy guy with cars

Thank you for posting !!
The BMW 3 Series is the best. Hands down. Nothing even comes close.
Except may be another BMW
TheBianchicc BMW manufacturing is very similar to other car manufacturing like Volkswagen, Volvo, Mercedes and so on. Just saying.
We weren't talking about the manufacturing process.
Yes the 5 series
C300

Very good quality cars

Sufie SiMs similar situation in our country, Turkey:)

So since the driver never got out of the car at the end, does the 3 series come now with a drive as well? I guess it's optional tho xD
Always wanted to know how my 3 series was made
Surprised to see the outer sides of the body are held on with adhesive and not welded. Why would they do it that way?
soundseeker63 Easy to replace if wrecked, jokes aside, i guess there is something else that holds it in place aswell
soundseeker63 there is also small screws; bolts or spot welds, the adhesive is for wind and water sealing
Nice cars and well built so as the price when something wrong with it. A sensor just for the belt restrainer costed me $1200.00 ouch. Never again...
MannyG what model u got?
you tube vids and some basic tools could have saved you $900
Which factory is this? My F30 came out of South Africa. Wonder how similar it is

And so they get sent off. Towards the beginning of their journey, only to get sold, and wrecked by a drunk guy.
Well, I did an oil change once...
Give the painting robots two arms and that toga and they are pretty human.
Look Sir; droids
All in 1 day?
all cars are manufactured like this. its nothing german specific.
