  • Are you aware that there is such a thing as “poor man’s asparagus”? I discovered this takway vegetable from my suki. ”Takway” is a shoot that grows sideways from the taro root. There are two ways to cook this vegetable adobo or ginataan. Take your pick! Watch, enjoy and let the cooking do the talking.
    Ingredients:
    * takway
    * onions
    * garlic
    * tomatoes
    * salt
    * pepper
    * vinegar
    * soy sauce
    * oyster sauce
    * brown sugar
    Recipe:
    Step 1 - Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pan. Saute lots of garlic. Once these have turned brown, add tomatoes and onions. Make sure the onions have become translucent and soft.
    Step 2 - Add the takway and stir to flavor evenly. Season with salt and pepper.
    Step 3 - Add a bit of water. Cover. Let boil.
    Step 4 - Add soy sauce and let it blend with the takway. Cover and bring to a boil. Check if it is soft, stirring occasionally. Add vinegar, oyster sauce, and a little sugar. Add pepper and salt to taste. Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.
