[4K] East Broad Top #16: A Steam Freight Spectacular

For the first time since 2011, Eastern Railfan Productions captured steam on the East Broad Top Railroad in Rockhill Furnace, PA. Rising out of the ashes in 2020, EBT is being restored to its former glory and is providing an amazing experience to guests and railfans alike with excursions behind their recently restored steam locomotive, Baldwin-built 2-8-2 Mikado #16. In October 2023, Lerro Productions held a photo charter featuring Locomotive 16 pulling a mixed freight train across the restored line to Colgate Grove and return, stopping in many locations for photographers to hop off and film runbys, complete with re-enactors and antique cars! We'd like to thank the railroad and their crew, the Friends of the EBT, and Lerro Productions for putting on such a spectacular event!

I am surprised that the EBT isn't getting their coal from the Broad Top coal field. They were mining coal at Alvan as recently as 2017 through 2020 and might still be strip mining there. There was an estimated 50 million tons there in 1956 although I'm hoping there was a lot more than that. Assuming the coal up there was from the pillars of the old mines, they should be buying coal from Alvan. It is supposed to be very low in impurities including Sulphur and iron. If only there was a modern cleaning plant in Mt. Union!
