I grew up around 15-20 minutes from Hammond and have lots of family there. Hammond can be weird. Overall, it's every bit as calm and boring/peaceful as it looks, but depending on where you live and who you run with, the "dangerous" rep is well-deserved. However, you can also live your entire life there and never encounter much of anything, especially if you live in a "quieter" area or mostly just keep to yourself. Being that I fall pretty firmly into the latter "keep to yourself" category (despite a large chunk of my family very much being in the former), I still have a soft spot for the town and honestly wouldn't mind moving back one day.
This place doesn't look that bad. I've seen a lot worse videos, especially in bigger cities. At least there isn't a lot of trash around. Things look pretty clean.
I've been living downtown since 2016. Never experienced any crime. Maybe it's the ratio of crime to population, but I think we feel bigger than our actual population numbers because everyone from the surrounding areas comes here. Not as much as BR and NOLA, but the traffic isn't just people who live in Hammond proper lol.

I live here. It can be odd, it can get wild, but top 10? Nah.
I go to the Hammond Walmart and I often get asked for money
Hammond is not a bad place at all. I don't understand why Hammond is listed as a dangerous town.
