Ok after spending a bit more time with Invasion, I feel like it's really very easy to overcook it, way easier than M&M and Halpern, especially if you use turbo. I just use some very subtle EQ moves to remove things I don't like, and very light compressions on kick, snare, tom, OH and room tracks (~3db of GR), some more EQ to remove the 4-7k resonance of cymbals, then run through a mixbus SSL compressor (another 3db of GR, fast attack and release). I feel like anything more than these it starts to sound pretty artificial.
@@OliverShillito Another thought, I started experimenting with replacing/blending the kick from M&M with Invasion, and also replacing the snare room mics in Invasion with those of M&M - the result is a lot more "organic". Give it a go, you may be positively surprised!
@@OliverShillito Hey! Do you have a work email or a website? I have a Kontakt preset that stacks Invasion, M&M and Halpern, wanted to share with you and see what you think about it.
I can't believe how many searches I had to do to get to 09:18 when you show how many toms you can have on that expansion, you can't seem to find that info anywhere. I know the picture shows the toms but when you watch someone using the software they always had a 3 tom kit. I have a 5 tom kit and 8 cymbals (it is 9 if I use real cymbals, but 8 if i use electronic cymbals, of course I can add more if I want to). I know I can always get EZ or Superior but I wanted to try this i just wanted to make sure it was going to work with my setup. Thanks for showing this!
I wish MM had an update to add the same trigger option as Invasion, I use Invasion rn because it just sounds better faster but I’ve been finding my mixes ending up way too bright and maybe switching to MM will help me keep things rounded out
Thanks for the video! I'm looking at getting started with GGD and was torn between these 2 sets to start but I do think M&M sounds like a good start for 'all around' purposes and possibly my style (plus I can always buy the other packs later).
@@OliverShillito Good question. I'd say it has more impact and punch...so it will sit in a noisy mix better. To me Invasion sounds kinda muddy. Warm and rumbly. But also muddy. But then, I really like Drumshotz Taylor Larson...so obviously I dig attack and punch. :D I tend not to replace acoustic drums but to augment them with samples.
I bought Invasion because ppl told me it is better and way more versatile. Idk why but I somehow can't make the snare and bassdrum sound big... Wish there was a trial version of M&M i'd love to try it
@@OliverShillito I only use the integrated triggers. I mean, they don't sound bad at all but it feels like something's missing. It may just be my average mixing skills tho xd
This is an awesome little demo you got man. I honestly think I prefer M&M so think I’ll be spending my pennies on them. It’s about time I invested... again... 😂
@@OliverShillito i already bought it and it came with some midi packs , 2 I think. Not alot of grooves but got go get started 🙂thanks for answering thought
Ignacio Yañez thats because the output is set to Stereo, look at the bottom of his page where all channels are feeding into a stereo bus, no single drum kit is panned at all.
@@OliverShillitoWhat's your fav snare in M&M? Mine is Ludwig COB. The Guru 14 by 7 Padauk has a bit too much snare wire for my taste, still good but not my go to.
@@OliverShillito Now that you mentioned it, that's another point I love about M&M. You can put together a jelly bean style kit and it still sounds like one real kit in a room. Invasion doesn't do this.
@@OliverShillito Speaking of, dat 22 by 16 kick in Halpern 2.0 has been my go to kick sample for a long time. One thing I didn't like about Invasion is how clicky and artificial all the kicks are. Invasion is really good at metal but anything outside metal, I'd go to M&M.
@@OliverShillito Halpern has pretty good character, you should definitely give that particular kick a go. The shells have a really aggressive energy too. Not a fan of cymbals in Halpern, they're too quiet in Halpern 1.0 and way way too thin in Halpern 2.0.
@@OliverShillito It would be interesting to see a video on your favorite drum kit combinations inside modern and massive. Maybe share with us your presets?
Invasion Cymbals + M&M Shells = A beautiful marriage. Great video.
Pretty good actually, both libraries have the same close and far room setup so, a multi out routing works really well.
Would love to hear what you get out of this. Subscribing!

I personally love the scooped characteristics of Modern and Massive more. Loved the video!
great video, exactly what I needed for this comparison! personally prefer M+M but wish it had the versatility of Invasion

i agree. i have invasion. if i could just the have the modern snare i'd be good.

Modern and Massive is the best sounding...to my ears at least.

how do you put groves in to the tracks ?

So are these sounds processed or just straight raw sounds from the kits?
Thx dude! I just bought the invasion kit cuz of this video.
great video, thanks
I think the invasion one is more like for Death metaland Metallica stuff and modern and massive sounds more suited for modern metal
Does invasion come with any grooves?🎅

why everything sounds on the center?

not working in my kontakt why??

Invasion has better close mics, but M&M has better room sound. Both are very good but good for different applications. I prefer Invasion.

Goddamn that snare ring from the Invasion groove is annoying.
