  • Jason from Direct Pro Audio tackles the age-old question, "Is a powered mixer right for me?" with the Yorkville M1610 powered mixer. It can be hard to find that perfect sound system. This video will give you insights as to what a powered mixer is capable of versus a regular mixer and amplifier.

I have the 1610. It has never let me down in 7 years of road use. 4 piece band. Plenty of power on tap for mains and monitors.
The only thing that has me looking into a different set up is the idea of using in ear monitors. And needing separate mixes.
I have to see if Yorkville makes a big brother that has more features. By the way... The effects on this are very useable. Great Product. All of my Canadian Gear is top notch. My seagull acoustic too.

Quite ironic for a video about mixing to have bad mixing.

A powered mixer that has a built in active crossover is very useful, because it can send the low frequencies (100 Hz) going to the satellites (and monitors).

I find that nobody goes over the effects, or the controls for effects, I think they are very important especially for a small home recording setup

Is it right to add a powered amp to add more power from the powered mixer?

At the end of the video you mentioned number of channels, power, and transporting. You forgot number four...MONEY! Actually, when you go with a powered mixer, it is pretty affordable. You just need the mixer and your speakers, and you have PA. Easy to set up too.
Question: What is the purpose of powered PA speakers? Are they for a passive mixer running without the power amp?

Sigh Co. Bassist, yes that's exactly the purpose, If you have a passive mixer (mixer with out built in amplifier) you can use powered speakers (Speakers with their own amp built in) with the passive mixer to avoid using a separate amplifier

Thx for the video! I have had a Carvin amp HD 1500 and Carvin PM12 speaker system paired with Beringer mixing console for some time. The amp went out 2 years ago so i purchased a Rockville RPA9 amp to replace it and it been a great amp, however I haven't had much luck with Beringer as their mixing consoles don't seem to last more than 2 - 3 years. My newest one the left channel is going out
I use my system for home karaoke and listening to music so I would like to know your opinion
I'm thinking about going powered mixer Rockville RPM 1470 to pair with my Carvin PM12 speakers
Or should I just stick with an analog mixer
    I welcome any advice

For home karaoke I would keep your analog mixer and pick up a used Amp on Craigslist or eBay

Can I use Powered Mixers for Passive Speaker?

    • @nytugmaster
      @nytugmaster 8 лет назад +2

That's the idea. Powered mixers drive unpowered speakers. Unpowered mixers are used with powered speakers. Or, use an unpowered mixer with a power amp and unpowered speakers, got it?

Can you tell me where to plug in stereo headphones on the EMX 5 ?

    • @dewdude2112

These powered mixers rarely have a headphone out. Non-powered mixers usually do.....for recording purposes.
