Played Catan a lot about a decade ago, but haven't played in a very long time as we grew into even more complex table top games. Going to introduce some friends to Euro-style board games needed a refresher on the rules. For someone that was already familiar, this 4 minute video did everything on needed in the concise way I wanted. Thanks!
I've started playing these games, already bored of Catan and tried my hands on a few fantasy bg (DnD, Runewars) still a newbie tho. what complex fun games would u recc?
Amazing; I was just looking to see if Rules Girl did a video for Catan last week and didn't see one, and then you published it a week later. Thank you!
Some important things to note that weren't mentioned here which I discovered while playing my first game: - After your first settlement placements, you can only build new settlements next to roads you've built - You can only play one knight at a time, and to get the biggest army card you need to play more knights than the current biggest (like with the longets road card)
Your first point is mentionned. @2:02 Each of your settlements must also connects to at least one of your roads The 2nd one isn't really, indeed. She only precises cards can be played on future turns, yet - note the largest army card is fully displayed @2:22, and mentions than whoever plays more knights than you will get the card - your precision is incomplete too. I'd at least add that (1) only ANY one development card per turn can be played (knight/discovery/monopoly...). Only point cards work differently, and don't need to be played to count. (2) you may play a knight card before rolling the dice. This can sometimes be very useful, so in case you missed it, be aware of it ! And yep, she also didn't precise one can't build through an opponent's settlement, but considering how concise her videos are, I won't blame her :) I'd add one more precision, which isn't in the rules... but most of my friends would agree with : DON'T play with 4 players ! The island is too small for that. Usually, with 4P, after a few turns and the first extra one or 2 colonies are built, one player is already completely boxed and knows he won't make anything in this game... well, everyone plays as they want, but I strongly recommend NOT playing 4P without an extension to make the island bigger.
Thank you sweet girl. It's been a few years since I played the boardgame and I just picked up the Catan Classic app. Your video provided a quick refresher to playing again.
This was a solid refresher, but playing Catan again I mostly felt that it only was interesting in its day because we were not familiar with the many other better games now easily available.
We have been trying to figure this out for a few hours. Seems like it has potential though. Can you share any names of the other better games in your opinion? We are a family with a 9 and 11 year old if we would fit the mold of any of these. Also, adult games are good for game-night with other friends
Can someone explain this to me? Are you allowed to trade more then 1 time in the same turn? Can u build more then 1 thing at same turn? How many development cards can be built at same time? If u roll 7 can u still play ur turn or do it stop you from doing anything? I cant tell if this is family rules or not -.-
1) Yes. 2) Yes. 3) As many as you can afford. 4) You can still play your turn but you have to do the stuff in the video on top of it. Hope that helps : )
I have 2 questions.1. So on your turn, you can roll the dice, trade, and then build? 2. If you have development card, u can use that, then roll, trade and then build?
Random Person “Each player receives his starting resources immediately after building his second settlement; for each terrain hex adjacent to this second settlement, he takes a corresponding resource care from the supply.” pg 12
Thanks for the video; just bought Catan for my visiting family that only ever wants to play Pinochle for some strange reason. Wish me luck. Watching this I was only confused about the initial settlement and road placement at the very end of the video. Is it possible the red and blue players' pieces are shown too early (before the initial dice roll) and should have slid into place as phase II of II for every player laying down two settlements and roads directly after game setup? The difference between the phases (as far as I understand it from the official rules - white stars what?) being that resources are assigned for phase I but not II? I might have made that more confusing than need be xD Thanks again!
@The Rules Girl Awesome presentation, as usual. Yet, it seems some wrongly starting red&blue colonies were put on the board at 3:03. Since Catan is unsurprisingly one of your most popular videos, you may consider adding an annotation about that :) (And in the same way, you might also add a few precisions about points likes the ones LARAUJO noticed, and/or create the probably very expected video(s) about Catan's expansions)
Really weird way that you talk. You put emphasis on every last word in a sentence. You put a road DOWN. Then you need to build a SETTLEMENT. After that then you achieve VICTORY. Didn't catch a thing about how to play this GAME..

@@iceketchm I think Andor is a great Gloomhaven lite type game. Gloomhaven is of course amazing!
this is more if a reminder for people who already knew bow to play the game, it was confusing for me when i first saw this.
The Cones of Dunshire is my fav!
I'll be the maverick.
It's awesome that it came back into the show at the it guys 😃
It’s all about the cones.
Still... feeling so confused 😂😂😂
yeah i had to download the assistant and play the preset game.
why did you expect a woman to be able to explain anything?
It was a terrible video.
still have absolutely no clue what the heck is going on with this game
How?
Gather Together Games has a better explanation.
bro same 😭😭😭
She lost me at "Hello,I'm the Rules Girl !
It is simply because it is impossible to learn how to play Catan in 4 min. She actually provided amazing instruction!
I love how every time you end a sentence it sounds like you've been suddenly injected with cocaine.
😭🥶
haha yes
LMAO, I came to comment exactly on the way she speaks. I would love to see a parody of the way she speaks.
Bro you inject coke?
Are you trying to do my taxes? I don't understand what's going on.
😂😂😂 exactly
I also don’t really understand
Having Catan universe available of Steam and Android has really helped during isolation and quarantine
My favourite board game. I have most of the expansions as well, but the base game is still fun. 6 players game is so social
Amazing; I was just looking to see if Rules Girl did a video for Catan last week and didn't see one, and then you published it a week later. Thank you!
I just love hexagons and little game pieces. That's literally the only reasons i wanna learn catan. Thanks

Perfect video for a new player. This actually earned a sub. Thanks Rule Girl!
ok ok. Now someone explain me the game pls
Why are there no captions? She goes through this quite fast too.
Ah, now I understand...
Thank you! I needed a refresher 🙂
A PERFECT refresher video! Thank you!

Game of thrones risk, is this game and risk comebines
A little confusing bc of how fast it goes.
Can someone explain this to me?

Have you considered doing a video for the expansions too?
Omg her voice…she drags out the last syllable of every third word…..wooordddd…
I have a question about trading, can only the active player initiate trades with others? can others initiate a trade with the active player as well?
Thanks! I am finally starting to understand this game!
Someone please make a Dragon Panic version of this! 😂
Great guide! Im smacking these guys around at Catan!
If you have the resources to do it, can you build more than one road in your turn?
You missed out that the second round everyone gets a resource from where they put their second settlement
Where is that in the rule book?
Random Person “Each player receives his starting resources immediately after building his second settlement; for each terrain hex adjacent to this second settlement, he takes a corresponding resource care from the supply.” pg 12
That is covered at 3:29 in the white box.
When do you place down a settlement, you totally skipped over that detail.
Can you do a rule for Monsterpocalypse?
Finally a short concise video
Thanks for the video; just bought Catan for my visiting family that only ever wants to play Pinochle for some strange reason. Wish me luck.

Yes, the blue and red house and road were accidentally placed, probably an animation mistake
@The Rules Girl Awesome presentation, as usual.
Yet, it seems some wrongly starting red&blue colonies were put on the board at 3:03.

What are starting resources?
Just got this game for my birthday to play with the kids. Now to figure it all out lol.
Is there anybody who can tell me wich app/program/tool use to create a video animation like this one? thanks :)
Funny as hell that you have your two settlements tiles not legally placed on the board.
I’m confused, how are her settlements not legally placed?
how play?
The inflection she ends every sentence with is so distracting and irritating.
Matthew Henry sounds like she’s smiling
MAD IRRITATING
Matthew Henry she is weird
it was like my brain was scratched by claws
Your microphone is really toppy - you need to bring down the high frequencies a bit
Yeah, you can read the rules in 4 minutes, but you cant teach someone how to play in 4 minutes. BIG difference.
Great! Thanks Rule girl
1000th like! Thanks for the video
I waiting for this episode over a year
Can you make a Battletech Beginners Box rules video?
Is this a bot voice?
I thought I was clever. Now I don't know so good...
You're the best. Thanks for all your explanations!
Thanks for explaining so well!
I fell asleep watching this video but i blame the game maker on this one

Am I stupid that this game is wildly confusing
She sounds like Maximilian Pegasus
Greetings from Kyle
Wow this is sick

This one would definitely need to be a longer video cuz listen you lost me by the 1 minute mark
Still have no idea why I bought this game lol
who's here from the Mr Beast interview ;P
Way to fast of a vid, but I guess that was the point. I think I’m just slow
ah yes civs.... but as a board game
Really weird way that you talk. You put emphasis on every last word in a sentence.
You put a road DOWN. Then you need to build a SETTLEMENT. After that then you achieve VICTORY.
Didn't catch a thing about how to play this GAME..
great so cool!
I managed to make it through 20 seconds of this video before feeling insulted and demeaned by the way she was talking.
