Any rice will do in my opinion just let it cook on low heat for a bit until it is soft as desired (some people don't like the rice too soft). Fresh peanut works for some but I prefer using smooth peanut butter (no chunks), it readily available where I am and I don't have to blend. For me "Kunun Gyada" is any kunu made primarily from rice and peanut (some people use corn/wheat flour (not corn starch) to thicken). Either way, still yummy to me.
Yaji in hausa means pepper, but when used in the context she is using it, say "kayan yaji" then it means spices - which is a combination of different things! To make yours, combine a little bit of dry/cayenne pepper, ginger, anise, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg etc. Or just get "all spices" commonly found in baking sections - normally won't come with the dry pepper and ginger, you'll have to add that yourself. I hope you get the gist.
Please take off that ridiculous black cape. Cover your head if you must but not with that thing. Relax, smile more, and as often as possible look straight into the camera and talk to us (your audience). You are beautiful. #Kano #LungunFulani #Gawuna #KanawanDabo
