So very accurate! (Says a grandfather of three.) And sometimes my eyes just get wet when I see (and hear) how one musician is putting all his capability into supporting another. Those Emmet Cohen sessions always emanate joy.
something about the guitar tones and the drums and the muted piano and the basslines just make me feel like some earthen excitement has been awakened by the music
I love the way T42 evolves in this quartet version: Starting off with Emmet Cohen's piano playing of the verse (brought me back to Frank Denke playing "Tea For Two" at the St. Francis Hotel as one of my father's most popular requests - he'd also begin with the verse, then go into the main body of the tune all in his LH) - the first solo chorus being stop time comping with drummer improvising fills (reminded me of Dad playing stop time chords while Mom - a former dancer - tap danced on a rolled back carpet for after dinner guests). A guitar solo with a Latin/Cha-Cha beat laid down a danceable groove. The contrast between muted piano strings opening up into a very tasty solo, later with chromatic chord modulations (how did bassist Russell Hall know to do that?) was a delightful surprise! A bass solo, and swing ending of Tea For Two by these 4: Loved it!
@@willfulkersonmusic Probably so - intuitive musicians can pick up on subtle cues (could be a note or chord quality change, or a glance from Emmet to Russell to indicate "go to these alternate set of chord changes" - I call this "Giving the Hairy Eyeball" to my music partners and hope they catch it) but it seems like the Cohen/Hall combination is incredibly intuitive!
@@DebbieDenkeMusicActually, I think Russel just reacted quickly. Pay attention to the moment Emmet first starts raising the ii-V. Russel pauses to process, then catches on. This probably isn’t the first time Emmet has used these exact changes on this tune, though. It’s certainly not the only time.
Emmet cohen has actually probably done it before! I believe he’s quoting the famous art Tatum. In one recording of Art Tatum’s tea for two he does that exact same thing! Walking 2-5’s up chromatically.
To me, sounds like people are seeing Cory Henry in their soup. The cold and logical AI that has replaced my heart approximates to 0.00001% the chance that Gilad was actually quoting that by playing these notes.
This has to be the craziest thing I’ve heard in a while, the guitar tone and the piano man it’s just amazing tamber and music man it’s amazing to watch too 🔥
I've come to learn that a friendly smile between two vibing musicians is only beaten by a smile from your child or loved ones, it's that strong.

I don't know what all genres the drummer plays... i just know he's the right man for any gig
Obed is an insane drummer. Plays with the JALC orchestra. He’s even better live!
@@Akwilliams_97wait but isn't this already live
@@liuzh1han good point. I meant in person 🥸
@@Akwilliams_97 oh..
Lol
The drummer is having a blast just like everyone else it seems, even more so than usual. Love to see such talented musicians having so much fun
Blast is exactly why they’re doing it 😉
4:08 Gilad surprised Russel with his lick
How about the almost lick at 6:28 🙃
@@cooldebt that was my FAV part of the solo!
more like tone shift
hands down best use of muted piano i've ever heard. 0% gimmicky, just 100% serving the style and sound of the solo. Incredible group overall!!
Thank you Emmet it is good to hlisten to you from France
Emmett you muted string piano solo was amazing! You always surprise me with your playing!
the octaves section following this is beautiful too!

@@n1night635 Wouldn't surprise me at all that Cohen would have been influenced by and saluted Tatum - you're probably right!
keep coming back to this day after day, week after week - pure joy
5:43 gilad quotes corey henry's lingus solo
You might be right! He does play a lot of melodies in progression though so might be a coincidence.
no wonder it sounded so familiar

If I ever have a bad day ever again, this is the first place you'll find me. THE JOY THAT THIS VIDEO RADIATES
i have listened to this over 100 times
Emmet's solo is a masterclass on the effect a wonderful rhythm section (particularly a drummer) can have on the feel and story of a solo! Amazing.
how is it even possible to keep a smile for 14 minutes? well, this song has managed to do so
man y'all got me smiling 😄
12:41 onwards
look at the faces, thats what music is about and Emmet never fails to deliver that message through these videos
@2:50 I've never seen that technique! So nice.
Some of my favorite guitar licks! *chef's kiss*
One of the best drum solos of all time. The hits!

Lord . Amazing . Love them all . Thank you for a beautiful music ❤
I love the sound Emmet gets when reaches into the piano to deaden the strings! Beautiful playing all around.
The start of the piano solo made laugh out loud.... very enjoyable session, great groove.
this just looked like so much fun. life doesn’t get much better than this.
Love seeing the guitarist incorporating his pedals, we don't see enough jazz guitarists utilizing pedal boards.
Lmao 😂
I think it's my favorite version of this tune now :)
Fabulous session
Very talented band! With Emmet on piano, brilliant! Thank you very much. 😊
