- In 1986, Chicago-based filmmaker Phil Ranstrom attended the opening of Knuckles' club the Power House. The tape sat virtually unseen in his archive until April 2014. Enjoy being one of the first in nearly 30 years to watch his short doc capturing one of the legends of a true Chicago sound.

It came to England and changed everyones lifes. Made so many friends at that period through house music. We are all still good friends and still loving it and occasional night out to this day. 52 next week . Big respect Chicago
Well damn, look at that. I was in the booth that night, because I'm the tech that wired up that sound system. Tannoy coax studio monitors on the dancefloor. ServoDrive subwoofers. That was a time.
That is amazing!
I have never seen much footage from this time period in Dance music culture. Excellent!
That brings back so many memories.
I WAS 14 IN '86...LOL HOUSE MUSIC AND HIP HOP WAS THE SOUNDTRACK OF MY YOUTH LOL! AND HOUSE MUSIC STILL HAS THE SAME LEVEL OF POWER OVER ME. I LOVE IT! FIRST SONG THAT MADE ME DANCE...LOVE CAN'T TURN AROUND. MY FAVES...MOVE YOUR BODY, IT'S HOUSE, JACK YOUR BODY, AND DEVOTION!
Could I bother you for a critique of some of my music?
I owned the powerhouse and this is the first time I've seen this. thanks brings back great memories
amazing
Who are you?
On a scale of 1 to 10 how hawt is house music right now? Frankie just replied very calmly "It's twelve."
I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..?
I was stupid forgot my login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Saul Grayson Instablaster ;)
@Diego Lukas thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.

@Diego Lukas It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you really help me out !
@Saul Grayson glad I could help =)
Its always great to see the roots of the birth of House Music versus just hearing of it. Great footage. Chicago is a very tough crowd. After beeing in the music industry 27yrs now, I see clearly that once you perform out of Illinois and you hit with whatever music style you make, its like then after Chicago accepts you. Thanks to Chicago where I was born and raised I have become a stronger Musician! Much love to all the House Music fans all over the world!
Much love right back at ya man! From the UK ❤ HouseHead4LIFE! RIP Frankie, rest well, good sir...

When I was in the Navy in Great Lakes, we would travel to Chicago, and hit up this spot. This was Super disco, and guys would snatch the girls on the dance floor!! Buck wild, and Jackin!!! I watched somebody dance with the wall all night. Salute Frankie Knuckles!!
The GODFATHER of House.....! What can I say Sir except thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for being alive when you changed the direction of music ...!
You were the founder, the creator, the everything about the birth of House music. You will never be forgotten and you are the one reason for why so many millions of people on this planet smile and love to live...! I met you in Ibiza airport 2011 and will never forget you my friend R.I.P Great man ..xxxxxxx

I’m 26. But man you can’t deny the energy in this video everybody just living in the moment dancing all night. It’s definitely not like this anymore
People still club my friend
@@ci6516 I know but phones changed the way people interact with A moment
@@mizuko6132 Yup, definitely! It will never be the same again. "What's your name, where're you from, what're you on" has been replaced with scrolling, endless scrolling & friend requests.
Amazing stuff! I love these old vintage reports....such a testament of time, capturing the 'zeitgeist' of the era. For me house music (and later hip hop) has brought different ethnic groups closer together and faster than any political, religious or government initiative could ever achieve. Add to that the MTV generation and you had a potent cocktail of social shifts. We should be so grateful and mindful of that!
This is historic footage of classic moments and time that could never be lived again rare classic pieace of history of the bestbever dance music house nation one nation under a groove
How glad are we, that we lived in that time, we lived those classic moments?! I wish I had a time machine! My nephew loves House music, almost, as much as I do ;0) He said he'd love to have been around back then, with him now telling the stories that I do. The way I describe it, the atmosphere, the feeling, the humans, who we were back in the day, what we were all about, he says he's jealous & that club life now, just isn't like the life I describe. I feel for the young'uns. I feel blessed 🥰RIP Frankie Knuckles - Godfather of House. Tears...
Frankie lives in my heart...House music is Frankie Knuckles!
He plays in Heaven...lucky them!
Mine too - you're SO right - House IS Frankie! Heaven's
a lucky place to be, more so since Frankie checked in!
the night 'dance' music got its soul back
Look at old Steve moving his thing there !
Love this video. A piece of history.
So so so so so amaaaazing! almost 30 years ago and still today.. "House is a feeling.. and when you feel it you will understand."
We have lost an extraordinary human. Eternal love, awe, appreciation and immeasurable respect, Mr Frankie Knuckles.
Wow, this imagery really puts me in a trance, thanks a lot for keeping and sharing this video!
so great... house music was already old in 86 lol.
Thanks for uploading this. Had never seen it before.
Brilliant footage. Thank you for sharing.
This bring back so many memories. That's my guy the bouncer with the red hat on Donzelle (BIG DON) and James Delaney (RIP). The Power House became the Music Box (2210 S Michigan Ave) two years later in 1988. Big Don was the bouncer when it became the Box also. Don would always give me a ride home on the southwest side but he lived on the southeast side after leaving the club early in the morning. He was a cool cat. I heard Don passed some years ago but I'm not sure about that. Those were the days when the city was electric and the House Movement was really alive with the music and fashion.
Big Don! Saved my life. Love the man. Sadly he's in a nursing home unable to walk
@djbhe & @FMV That's Interesting! I am trying to understand exactly the Chicago nightclub scene from 1980 to 1990 According to what you've said, the Power House (1986-1987) became the new location for the well known Muzic Box in 1988 (formerly located on 326 N. Michigan) ? Please confirm. And Do you know who was the main DJs in the Muzic Box from 1988 until its end since Frankie Knuckles left the Power House in 1987? Did Ron hardy played at this very location? Thanks for the precious infos.
@@DynamicRockers
Yes it is. The location is at 2210 S. Michigan. A guy I went to high school with who introduced me to Ron personally in 1988 name Maurice Jefferson was playing there with Ron then Terrance Harrison & Ron played there. I met Donzell through Maurice also He was Ron's personal Bouncer and a professional Boxer. AL Capone's Lexington Hotel stood across the street vacant at that time on the ne corner of 22nd & Michigan Ave.
@@djbhe Thank you so much for the info. that's gold. I get it now, it was confusing because frankie Knuckles and The guys from the Warehouse kind of split in 1982 to give 2 different clubs : The Music Box and the PowerPlant. So if the Music Box management moved to Frankie's Power House venue in 1988 then rebranded it Music Box, the circle is complete :-) Thanks, cheers from Montreal.
@@DynamicRockers
Robert Williams owned Frankie's Original Warehouse and the Music Box. Frankie owned the Power Plant if I'm not mistaking.
In The Beginning There Was JACK!!!

wow it's been a lil over 2years since my friends was call for Judgement...Peace Be Upon Him..& can't believe 30years ago I 1st went to the Powerhouse...smfh where did the time go
I don't know where House Music started at, I started dancing to it in the Paradise Garage in 1986, on King Street here in New York City. Larry Levan was playing this music on the most powerful sound system I ever heard in my life. I haven't heard one like it since. I have been to Paradise! Frankie Knuckles used to play in NYC an NJ, back in those days, and prior to then.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_music
"House music is a genre of electronic music created by club DJs and music producers in Chicago in the early 1980s".

Frankie Knuckles was before my time so it's nice to see him and hear how he inspired the music!
Today's music isn't the same either so I guess that invalidates your point. You know what? Fuck Frankie Knuckles. If youre any indication of how his supporters act I'm glad he died. Please join him.
Wow both of you are immature for arguing over this.
I want more!!!

Gracias Frankie qepd por tu importantísimo aporte ala música!!! Wbmx hot mix 5 y a todos los dj del planeta sin uds los otros no existirían, sería todo muy triste
