    I like the fact that your not trying to sell/conivence me to get your gear. its a refreshing video.. Am eyeing up the R7 to pair with my R6.. juggling with the R7 or the R8 mainly for video as a B camera

    Great video. You did mention that the DJI Mic 2 have 32 bit float and I have the same, but as I remember it's 32 internal recording not through Bluetooth. not sure if there is a possibility to sync the mic to let's say the pocket 3 and trigger the internal recording to make it easier in post.

    Afternoon Alex and Sophia,
    Food for thought, do I really need all of the stuff I have…
    Alex I think this is the happiest I’ve seen you in quite a while. My guess is it’s got something to do with Sophia and not your camera gear 😊

    I keep on thinking about a longer telephoto lens, but I also find my two zoom lenses cover pretty much everything I want to shoot. The best thing is, because my gear is micro 4/3, I can get away with a shoulder bag most of the time, which is so much easier to access. I do like my backpack though.

    Great video Alex, I have the R5, 15-35 2.8, 24-105 f4, and the 100-500... mostly the same setup and I cover the full range 15-500. Keep producing and I'll keep watching.

  • @JohnDrummondPhoto

    I also shoot Canon. R5, RF 14-35 F/4, and RF 24-105 F/4 are my main landscape shooters. I use an RF 100-500 and sometimes the 1.4x extender for birds. I'm thinking of getting the 100-400 for landscape as it's much lighter than the 100-500.
    I used to use an R6 for video; but I recently got a GoPro 12 and I'm very happy with it. I'm looking to downsize a little just because I'm now 70. Very fit, but still. I have other lenses too, but these are my main ones.

    I have a similar R5 & R7 camera setup, however I am a bit surprised that you don't even mention the Canon rf-s kit lenses available for the R7. My lightweight travel setup, which is smaller and lighter than you have, is the rf-s 10-18mm (16-29 equiv fov), and 18-150mm (29-240 equiv fov) with my R7. For inexpensive and extremely light and small lenses, the image quality is actually pretty decent, and for travel and landscape use, very easy to pack and carry. While not the fastest aperatures & best build quality (i.e. plastics and not weather sealed), still hard to beat for this type of use. For the R5 I decided to use ef-rf adapters with my old Canon ef 16-35 f/4 L IS, Tamron ef 35-150mm f/2.8-4, and 100 f/2.8 L macro. I did also get the Canon rf 100-500L lens as it is a fabulous lens for wildlife (R7, 160-800 equiv fov) and landscapes (R5) (traded in my ef 70-200 f/2.8 L and ef 100-400L lens to get this pricey lens).

    Interesting to see. Yes, convenience is one of the reasons I went with micro 4/3. Equiv. of 16-800 FF in a WANDRD Lite is terrific. I have two Shimodos and they are just too big, even the 25. When I tripod -- almost never at this point -- I use the Leofoto LS-285CEX with the leveling head and a GH-PRO II geared head. Loves me some geared heads for landscapes. Happy trails!

    I actually have the shimada action pack x55
    The metal frame is actually the same size as a 75
    But the width and depth are actually an inch shorter on each side so my height is actually 22 in with the metal frame
    I do love the fact that I can take out the inserts with shimada bags they are always a good to go at least for me
    And since I do a lot of bikepacking only the camera and a few hours and ends go in the bag I probably could have gotten with the action pack 35 since most of my camping equipment goes on the bike anyways
    But since I go over to my brother's and he lives in Mesa Arizona so yes I have to fly there and yes and no I have not gone there with the bag yet
    Yes I can't wait to go back and no I haven't tried it with the flight yet but that's the reason why I chose this bag to fit in the cargo with my camera equipment for a easier flight and very small range of clothing to put in that role top with a smaller insert yes I have two inserts the medium and the small the medium is for the dlsr and the small I made a mistake thought it was for the dlsr it's actually for the mirrorless but Pentax does make one mirrorless camera and that is the Pentax k-01

    I think you are the first RUclips photographer to tell people they don’t need a bigarse Shimoda pack. They are all using them and people always ask what bag they have. The difference is they are vloggers and carry all video gear to do that. Like you said 95% of the photographers would be better off with a 30 liter pack.

    Normally, I skip gear videos. Sure glad I didn't skip this one. I am continually fighting with myself over gear in the field, i.e., take more in case, vs take less 'cause I rarely use the extra stuff. You have definitely given the "take less" side a lot of support. Thanks.

    Try a Lens Band to help limit that focus/zoom creep. Counter to what the product photos might show, you need to get the widest Len Band and then position it so that the band overlaps snuggly on the ring and non-movable body section. It is not a great fix, but it does help with that problem. An added tip is that if you have a couple of lenses that look very similar, you can use different colored bands to quickly identify them

    About USB-C charging, I now have some camera batteries that have a USB-C charging connector built right into the battery. Talk about convenience!
    I can charge the batteries with ease, without bringing a charger, even when they’re not inside the camera.

      @TimvanderLeeuw 11 месяцев назад

      @@AlexArmitage I'm not sure what you mean by inhibiting they mAH?
      The batteries that I have (for my Fuji) have slightly higher capacity in mAH than Fuji's own batteries, I'm sure similar batteries with USB-C charging plug are also available for Canon but I don't know if the capacity will be more or less than Canon original batteries.

    Hey Alex, great setup. I would recommend looking into the RF 100-400 as a replacement for the 100-500 based on what you said in the video. It is a light and inexpensive telephoto with good quality and still has IS for video. Can be used in a pinch for longer photos but will need something like DxO (or Canons DPP) to get the most out of it.
    I have a similar setup: R5, RF 14-35 (awesome lens!), RF 24-105, and the RF 100-400. Sometimes I wish I had 200mm and haven’t thought about the 70-200 f/4…I wish Canon would make a L series 28-200 or something like Nikon has.

    • @AlexArmitage
      @AlexArmitage  11 месяцев назад

      I'd have to convert that and the IS is not nearly as good as the 100-500. I believe the RF system has better IS when combined with the native mount. Where as they don't work in tandem as well when adapted.

    Yikes! I would NOT keep all my cameras and lenses in just one bag. Especially living in a car with that one bag sitting on the passenger seat all the time. If that bag gets stolen you are screwed. I would have two smaller bags for each camera. And I would hide one of the bags out of eye view when not using.
