I also really enjoy the latest Avenged Sevenfold. I’ve never been a fan of them much, a song here or there. I did get into The Stage, love the prog approach, very strong album. This new album Life Is… totally different and I do kinda love it. There’s definitely a progy Bungle thing going on and I dig it.
Dang dude crazy list. Thanks for sharing and can’t wait to check out your best albums of 2023 at the end of the year. Here are my top 3 albums of 2023 so far: Become Your Star by L ux The Weight of The Mask by Svalbard On Hundred At by Afsky … cheers!
For me (OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD): 1. Periphery - Periphery V 2. Avenged Sevenfold - Life is But a Dream 3. In Flames - Forgone 4. Paramore - This is Why 5. Katatonia - Sky Void of stars
Great seeing you again, Jeans! Hellripper is the clear winner for me here, and with that you perfectly described my feeling towards black metal. Another one I’ll put on my list is the new Enforced record, an absolute beast of a record!
I love that A7X album, too. It's the first Avenged album I've ever enjoyed (having never really been a fan) and it gave me huge Mr. Bungle/Faith No More vibes.
1. Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite 2. In Flames - Foregone 3. A7X - Life Is But A Dream 4. Enslaved - Heimdall 5. Overkill - Scorched 6. Immortal - War Against All 7. Obituary - Dying Of Everything 8. Metallica - 72 Seasons
Legit, half of your list, would be on my list…ones I think are worth including to have a ten…Poison Ruïn”Härvest” and the Boris & Uniform collab… “Bright New Disease.” And actually can’t figure 3 of em yet, have them, but couldn’t narrow it down…🤔
I am so shocked to see 72 Seasons and A7X on this list. I absolutely hated those albums lol. Love the channel, especially love hearing when you have a different view or take on an album than I!
My top albums of 2023 so far: Ahab-The Coral Tombs Caleb Johnson-Paradise Found: Bat Out of Hell Reignited (tribute to Meat Loaf) Memoriam-Rise to Power Shania Twain-Queen of Me In Flames-Foregone Steel Panther-On the Prowl Enslaved-Heimdal Miley Cyrus-Endless Summer Vacation Suicide Silence-Remember... YOU MUST DIE!! August Burns Red-Death Below Overkill-Scorched Cattle Decapitation-Terrasite Foo Fighters-But Here We Are Scar Symmetry-The Singularity Phase II: Xenotaph By the way, BOOOOOOO to both the Metallica and A7X albums! THOSE RECORDS SUCK!
He returns! Tbh i listened to the new frozen soul and didn’t get the hype at all. Nothing about it really clicked for me, it just felt too basic. My favorite this year so far has to be 10000 gecs by 100 gecs, it’s just so damn weird. Hoping the new cannibal corpse album will be amazing, it’ll probably end up on my favorites list
I missed your vids so much Jeans Yeah modern deathcore’s state rn I very much don’t care for. Especially the blackened death core that Lorna shore and other bands are doing. I find it way to be cheesy, polished, samey, annoying and pretentious. Life is but a dream is very interesting, and yeah I kinda liked it on 2nd or 3rd listens. I think it’s crazy that an album like this came from the same band that made Waking the Fallen and City of Evil. Cattle Decap is my aoty so far. I like death atlas but some parts of that album kinda dragged imo, this Anthropocene era mixed a little with Death Atlas really did it for me. The aggressive, batshit heavy parts then also Epic and melodic sections of the album fit in so well. No duds, I thought every track was really good.
My top 5 (and I'm including stuff that's not metal as well: 1. JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown- Scaring the hoes 2. Liturgy- 93696 3. 100 Gecs- 10,000 Gecs 4. Tyler the creator- The estate sale 5. Thantifaxath- Hive mind narcosis
If they trimmed the songs then sure, the riffs and passages are not nearly THAT good enough that you can just repeat the same things 20 times in a song. Not exactly a good sign when I'm considering skipping midway to another song frequently. I really want to like a modern metallica album to a point where it would stay on rotation for longer than a week but it does not seem like thats gonna happen. Atleast we have the classics
My top albums so far: 1. Lovebites -- Judgement Day 2. Delain -- Dark Waters 3. Hellripper -- Warlocks Grim and Withered Hags 4. Insomnium -- Anno 1696 5. Overkill -- Scorched 6. Redshift -- Laws of Entropy 7. Xandria -- The Wonders Still Awaiting 8. Obituary -- Dying of Everything 9. Enforced -- War Remains 10. Wytch Hazel -- IV: Sacrament

I do, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
Front half is really good, back half is great. Great album!

I've said it from day 1, 72 Seasons is a great album. Hetfield sounds killer!
