I never realized just how much people reflect on and appriciate engine sounds. Such an easily overlooked quality of a machine. It is the soul of the vehicle.
I currently own a pan, genny shovel, s&s evo, and a m8, the shovel or evo are by far the best motors I've ever owned. M8 is the worst to date. I'm eventually going to cave and buy a sporty evo 1200 and make it my daily. 😑

I grew up with a lot of these. Depending on the Carb, tuning, cam and pipes makes a big difference. Shovelheads are great. Panheads are great. You left out the good old 1000 ironhead sportster though. Probably the best sounding engine ever from idle to full throttle. Cool video though.
That’s an awesome way to remember the sounds, thanks, galloping horses! So cool! Not quite sure what it is but the sound of just about any Harley just makes my heart so happy. Probably the galloping horses sound.
I like cruisers but can't figure out what's up with the UNBEARABLY LOW idle speeds.... It makes it sound so weak. It really gives me the the impression of an engine that barely runs
Yeah, that's been bothering me ever since I've started paying attention to motorcycles. Granted, I'm no engineer, but those low idles just don't sound right.
@@hdpiciu7362 i take it that you mean Big Twin. Anything 1000 cc and up is considered a big twin and a 1200 is still a big twin. And your comment is still irrelevant as the video is incorrect about the time frame of the evo.
I had a 42 "45" Flat Head back in 56 that I thought sounded good. But you can not beat the sound of a shovel. I had an 84 Iron Head Sportster that sounded good also. And my 99 carbed EVO sounds really good. I have a switch to cut out the VOES switch at idle which makes it real close to a shovel. That cuts the timing back at idle which also drops the rpm about 400.
They all sound just great. Thank you for posting. I may be alone, but that EVO had the most distinctive, potato-potato-potato sound. Came to the same conclusion on another video similar to this one. But they're all legendary in one way or another.
The intro of the engine sound before they showed and sound of the 1903 single cylinder was I believe a V-Twin board track racer that was running on alcohol.
Evolution motor sounds the best and is the most reliable engine HD has ever made. The evolution sporster motor is probably more reliable than the big twin evo motor of those two.
Shovel and Evo! My first Harley when I was in highschool was an 83 fxr with a S and S Emodel and an Andrews cam boy did it sound sweet!!! Now I'm an old man and ride a M8 that sounds like a BMW!!! LOL
Shovelhead and evolution literally sounds like a galloping horse

Shovelhead for the win!
evo close second .
Never knew the Milwaukee 8 sound so bad! I have a 95 Evo myself , the last good one!
Aint nun like an old shovelhead. My dads got an 84' softtail. Music to my ears
I swear my shovel makes the most beautiful sound I've ever heard
Here for the education, Sportbike guy, but that shovlehead definitely caught me attention.

They all sound amazing.

Ok, now that's pretty funny.
Why get a horse , when you have a freaking harley
Evo was the greatest motor harley ever made ......paired with a 5 speed trans it was unbeatable

Super danke für das Video hat großen Spaß gemacht.
P.S. Shovelheads sound awesome at 5,000 rpm cruisin down the road in high gear.
That’s like 1500 rpm over the redline though.
@mad ass 5,000 freedom rotations a minute
Don't know about you guys but on my 95 Evo my rev limiter is set at 5300 and that's conservative could go to 55!
neil pence
Freedom rotations? Is that when the piston comes breaking free?
Love the way a knucklehead sounds 😎
Good video bro, good reminder of those beautiful engines, nice intro
Wow! Just wow! When you see an air cooled 4 stroke pushrod v twin with that sound.
Harley Davidson.
The M8 sound like a machine with pure power.
Panheads are my favorite. I saw a awesome 1955 Harley Panhead Bobber!
