He should have lovingly forgiven the sinner and encouraged him to strive to grow closer to Jesus by prayer, the sacraments and reading scripture for, say 15 min. a day. He could also have required him to read specific passages in the gospels where Jesus alludes to the consequences of sin, and passages where Jesus encourages us to enter by the narrow gate, but also parables like the prodigal son. It’s never the priest’s task to judge the sinner for the priest too, like all of us, is an earthen vessel, always subject to the wiles of the devil.

BUNK - clearly you are not informed of the fact that the Priest must Evaluate the Penitent's sincerity of repentance. Something you would call judging. This is an absolute requirement of the Priest. For example You cannot go to confession regarding infidelity and when the Priest tells you you must avoid the occasion of sin with this person by not seeing them any more, you can't then just say but you love them and you just don't think you can leave that person in the relationship, because if you are of that frame of mind then he cannot give you absolution. By your scenario refusing to absolve him is being too harsh or judging. He cannot absolve someone who does not truly repent.
He specifically said "make unto yourselves NO graven image of anything in the heavens or on the earth and do not worship it". Think about it. Jesus is alive and well, he is not hanging on a cross (an implement of torture and death) anymore.

That was not nice of the priest not to forgive him the third time, and threatened him with no more forgiveness. Whatever happened to forgiving our brothers seven times seventy? My Daughter stopped talking to her brother about ten years ago, and she stopped talking to me around three years ago. I’ve apologized asking for forgiveness for whatever I did wrong, but nothing. I keep praying that we reunite as I do for all families, but God hasn’t answered my prayers. I know, it’s all in is timing. ❤️video!

It's about time that what really happens in the Sacrament of reconciliation has always been what God is about. It's a shame that whatever priest passes a judgement on a penitent performing over and above what and why Jesus' salvific action has done, passes judgement on himself because he forgets why he became a priest in the first place, (which he needs to reconsider his Sacrament of holy orders). The priest does NOT FORGIVE SINS, Jesus the high priest does. The priest performs what Jesus is doing, who we can't see Him doing. And represents the forgiveness of the mystical body of Christ, as St. Paul reminds us of. It's so refreshing to see and hear this video to get it right. Once we all understand this, the more people will return to this Sacrament without fear of it, as so many priest's have caused, which this video points out. The Sacrament of reconciliation should be received just as enthusiastic as the Eucharist itself. Thank God, for Pope Francis, who so often is misunderstood for what he is trying to remind the clergy of, on all levels of their rank or position in the Church.
