  • Mount Hua, or Huashan is one of China's 5 Sacred Mountains. A place of pilgrimage for thousands of years it was once the site of Imperial sacrifice. Only a short journey from Xi'an, it is one of the most fun hikes you can do in China - well worth the effort!!!!

    Aside from Huangshan, very few other landscapes like this, as far as granite batholith based topography is concerned. Been twice once in winter (heavy snowfalls up top) and in summer. Is a tough climb but as you filmed, you see these superlean 50 something blokes burdened with massive loads. They are as tough as hell. The cablways go for miles and you are left wondering how they managed to transport and erect the infrastructure. The cable cars shuttle over the ridges and peaks and suddenly drop off over huge ravines a thousand feet deep. The cables pass through a dedicated monitoring system for potential fractures and weakenesses by x ray/scans and this provides some confidence. Well worth the price of admission.

      August will be busy and very hot, so if you can hold off til september that would be better. However, if you go in August it will still be a lot of fun. Getting there is really easy, both high speed and normal trains stop at the mountain. From Xi'an, only 30 mins on the high speed train. Regarding cost, the mountain is about 140rmb to get in. if you decide to stay in a hotel on the mountain...that gets pricey, our room was 1200rmb for 3 people. drinks and things on the mountain are also marked up, expect to pay 8 to 10rmb for a small bottle of water

    • @nickinchina2552
      @nickinchina2552  7 месяцев назад

      It is definitely doable. You have a few options i suppose...
      1. Walk the whole thing. From the foot of the mountain to the peaks in this order (North, Central, East, South, West) From the West Peak you can then take a cable car to the bottom.
      2. Cable car to the North Peak, then walk to all the other peaks and cable car down from the West. This would cut a few hours of your whole journey time.
      3. Reverse order it. Cable car to the West Peak and then walk back to the North. This would entail a lot of walking down steps.
      Option 1 is definitely the best! This is what I did but with a night stop at the East Peak. (highly recommend this!)

    I can’t think of much worse than climbing all the way up there only to be met with crowds of people sticking their damn phones up against the sunset. What are they there for to take a photo of something they can probably google, instead of actually experiencing it with their eyes and pausing to think. Argh. No thank you!

    Cable cars should be banned, if you can't get up then you can't get up.

    What exactly is dangerous about this walk? Almost evertyhing looks paved and secured. No climbing required. Have you ever been to real mountains? Almost every ridge in the Alps is more dangerous than this. What a clickbait.

    OMG, Nick I thought you were kidnapped by the Taliban. I have send off a search and rescue party for you. If you happened to see them about, please tell them to call off the mission. Not sure I will be up to it to climb up all those precarious height. All well and ended well. Welcome back.
