"They're heavy." I recall having those on and saying "Man, these are light as a feather." When you grew up with leather and horse/deer hair, they were amazing. "I'm unstoppable!"
Never played net minder, but as a former defenseman I have nothing but respect for them, no matter what era and pads they played in. In my life, I've had the pleasure to witness great goaltending from early Hextall, then going forward. Guess I'm dating myself as to when it hit my radar 😆. But getting to see guys like Roy, Brodeur, Hasek, Fuhr, Cujo, Potvin, I could continue for several minutes, the point being that no matter the gear, there have consistently been great goaltenders on display in the league. Arguments over the oversized pads coming and going and their effects on the players and their stats are always fun conversations. I get both sides of the argument when it comes to the size of gear, but safety really needs to be the ultimate baseline. Vulcanized rubber hitting you above 80mph is incredibly uncomfortable. I don't have the answer to what sizing would be optimal as far as protection for the player without creating an artificially exaggerated profile with the sole intent of diminishing scoring area in goal. It almost seems like a sliding scale would be necessary based on the starting size of the player before gear even comes into play. Great video on classic gear though! Would be interesting to be able to see older iconic goalies and their varying degree of success as they use gear from different eras. Some modern goalies might find playing with older gear much tougher, and conversely, older players might have their game thrown by the lighter and in some cases smaller gear than they might have been used to.
I was born in 2000 and i was taught how to play stand up i started playing ball hockey with pads from the 70s . Its different and fools most people today not viable at the nhl level but its a different style to play against
i still have my Vaghn 3500 top to bottom. actually, we started wearing them tight low and lose as you went up, so that we could get into the butterfly. they are lighter than the cooper and early vaughn 800s i had. yea first time i put on modern pads i said the same thing, these kids are spoiled. though i have to admit, the matching glove the Vaughn 3500 Vision series is still by far my favorite.

I thought we went over the pad stacks..
I would love to try those on the ice, such a sweet era of goalie gear
You are THE best shl goalie ever
Same
It was like taking a ride in a time machine!

I saw some dude at a puck and skate tonight it was awesome dude was full Chris Osgood Helmet and everything
The helmet cage combo?
One of my best accomplishments was being a top goalie in my area while having the oldest gear. Everyone in the top 10 wore the “new” style stuff.
I wish I still had all of my Cooper Reactor 5 gear. I didn't like the double T on the glove at first but it grew on me.
I had a great day today and you just made it 60% better
This was my pad in 94/95 too. first new gear i ever had. they felt so advanced back then. so funny to see now.
Such a sweet set! Crazy how you can’t even buckle them up with your knee guards on.
Yaaa
You can see a little later he’s putting the thigh boards on and tucking them into his pants. That’s what we had instead of knee pads back in the 90’s.

Go blues and what about cujo Curtis Joseph
I love all your vids. You should make vids of your games
Are the pads wider than newer style pads???
I'd killed to have Pro's 90 pads.

i still use those i where my dads old pads and there vthe same ones
Just traded in my original Reactor 4s for some V6 like a month ago. It’s a whole new world!
80's moves with 90's goalie gear.
The pads really do force you to play 90’s style
I play at that rink as my home rink
those kinds of pads look way cooler than the new ones. and the news ones are too white
….should have used the toe buckle but still a fun video!
Too bad you couldn’t have gotten a set of Fuhr’s gloves to go with the pads
U weren’t from that era, I could play in those, I’m from 92
90s goalie gear? Is this dude like ten years old? 😂
Ur a better player
I like chickens
Yo I wish I Had a real Hockey goalie Helmet
Dude. You need old school goalie skates. One with the big white cowling and the 5mm blades.
Try skating on those rails. 🤣🤣🤣
So that was all the difference in gear…? I think not
They weigh more cause they are horse hair filled pads
I have the 90’s style goalie pads, and they are bad
Bra
