- Royal Ballet Principals Marianela Nuñez and Thiago Soares rehearse 'Diamonds' from George Balanchine's Jewels with Elyse Borne. Find out more at www.roh.org.uk/...
Now celebrating its 50th year, George Balanchine’s sparkling ballet still shines with all the brilliance of the gemstones that inspired it.
George Balanchine’s glittering ballet Jewels was inspired by the beauty of the gem stones he saw in the New York store of jewellers Van Cleef & Arpels. He went on to make history with this, the first abstract three-act ballet, first performed in 1967 by New York City Ballet. Jewels was performed in full by The Royal Ballet for the first time in 2007, using costume designs from the original NYCB production and new set designs by Jean-Marc Puissant.
Each of the three movements draws on a different stone for its inspiration and a different composer for its sound. The French Romantic music of Fauré provides the impetus for the lyricism of ‘Emeralds’. The fire of ‘Rubies’ comes from Stravinsky and the jazz-age energy of New York. Grandeur and elegance complete the ballet in ‘Diamonds’, with the splendour of Imperial Russia and Tchaikovsky’s opulent Third Symphony. Each section salutes a different era in classical ballet’s history as well as a distinct period in Balanchine’s own life. Through it all, Balanchine displays his genius for combining music with visionary choreography.

I truly believe Marianela is the best ballerina of our times, she's technically perfect and she's so expressive when she dances that she never fails to amaze you. I've been lucky enough to see her perform twice at the Royal Opera House and both times she left the audience truly astonished. I hope she'll be dancing for many more years, the ballet world deserves a true artist like the divine Nela
yes. there is no ballerina like marianela. i love how the teacher is even astonished by her dancing! like wowie!
And how Marienella "shines" as a human being. An unfeigned radiant warmth that would seem to include us all.
Marianela makes me want to cry. She is so beautiful. I think that she has set a standard for what the ballerina should be. Technically brilliant and emotionally stunning. I pray that one day I may se her in person or take a class with or from her.
Even in rehearsal, this ballerina exudes such warmth and joy from the heart. I can just imagine how wonderfully she will dance this part on stage!
She's a bleassing.
even though she is a principle, she never stops working and striving to be better. she accepts correction and doesn't act like a diva who knows everything
Jenna Hellmann i have never seen a principal that acts like a brat. they are all so humble and hardworking personalities. i guess it’s because you must have been humble and hard worker to go that far.
@@fly89 oh if you'd immerse in the ballet world you would hear stories of many ballet primas acting like diva, not marianela though, she's a gem
There's actually a video of Svetlana being very angry about a part of the movement and she keeps repeating "I don't like this I just don't like it"
I think she Is the humblest dancer Alive💓💓😊😊 once in her country Argentina she signed a pair of pointe shoes from a Little dancer and also gave her a Little card inspiring her😊😊 ❤️ I love her so much her technique Is so gorgeous and delicate I feel inspired as a male dancer whenever I see her dancing💓💓😍 sorry for my grammar. Mistakes I'm not an english native speaker
@@MN-pz2op Your English is great! and what you say is so true.
Here I am watching someone who is probably the greatest ballerina of our time, and all I can think is “what a lovely face, what a beautiful smile!”
What a gorgeous couple....heard that they were briefly married-sorry it didn't work out, but they seem to be good friends and wonderful dance partners-Nela is the embodiment of pure joy.
I love how she says “yes” and “okay” she’s so cuteee
lovely lovely lovely
What I adore about nela is, yes she works so hard, but it looks so effortless. With other ballerinas it's always a 'chore' it's always ''drama'. Not with her, Nela loves it, and you can tell she loves it and like Elyse Borne says, it's infectious, you catch yourself smiling as you watch this rehearsal.
Ugh Marianela Nunez (Love her so much!) ! She makes me feel like she is in love with each partner she has in a pas de deux. She's so compatible and expressive!! She's my idol! The Ugh part is whenever I see her partner with someone else I'm not used to, I feel she's cheating on the early partner. It's all in my head I know.. She's such a wonderful actress! XD She's a stunner!
EDIT: When you first starting reading this you probably thought I was a hater. But of course not she's fabulous! I hope to be like her one day! Dancing with my dream company the ROH!
+Live on Pointe (Live on Pointe) her and Thiago used to be married so maybe you're onto something...
literally my favorite professional ballerina. I love how she always lengthens her positions and she seems like such a sweet person.
She is so beautiful, graceful, elegant. Wonderful dancing from both of them 😍
I'm not crazy about "Jewels" but I adore watching these two artists dance. Thank you.
amazing, she is like poetry in movement, and the music is so touching!
the nexus of beauty, grace, technique and athleticism
She and Tiago are amazing partners... It’s so good of looking, they match! ❤️
Marianela is so amazing to watch. You do smile when you see her dancing. So effortless, so beautiful!!
ugh I love them so much. The genuine joy and humbleness in Marianela's face is always just a joy to watch
Nela is going to be forever my fave 💞💞 and sorry but can't stop saying they have an amazing chemistry together 💔💔💔
They are marrief right?
paulina brucciano they were married but they are divorced now 💔 but Nela is with an Argentinian dancer, Alejandro Parente
Sky Sel really? 😱 This is so sad...
Andreza Lima yes, but as long as she is happy... she has said they are friends ☺️ and Alejandro is so talented and they love each other so much 💞 I'm so happy for them
They are also dancing in After the Rain together at the moment which is absolutely beautiful. Quite intimate. Definitely worth seeing.
Marianela's energy is so amazing. I love her! La amo!
Her arabesque allongé is so "alive." Wow.
I can't believe that they are not together anymore
Suzanne Farrell was always the Diamond in this ballet, but I love Marianela's interpretation of this role, her warmth and her musicality are a joy to watch. I agree, Mr. B. is smiling somewhere up there.
I love that the chemistry is still there with these two. =)
Just watching her in rehearsal is making me cry! I can't imagine seeing this in person. Marianela is so beautiful in this. I agree with a previous poster that said there is a daring in her dancing this pas that makes it so spectacular.
ok they’re all amazing and i love the energy nela brings but i love the teacher she seems amazing to work with
Nela totally rules, and this is a lovely partnership. Fond as I was of Sylvie Guillem, no ballerina has had this sense of joy in the music and the movement since Martine van Hamel. I used to say that no one moved like her---and now I've found someone else to say this about! I've been suffering for want of a Nela fix since our local cinemas stopped hosting the RB productions and have to be thankful for any of Nela's work that gets posted on YT and not pulled down by ROH. I can only imagine how great this perf will be.
There’s a sense of daring in the way Nuñez dances Diamonds, an almost Farrell-like willingness to throw all caution to the wind and just, GO FOR IT! So different in approach to the plodding, ponderous and posey way the Bolshoi and Maryinsky ballerinas take this piece. And so, so, so much more enthralling.
Marianella Nuñes is not only one of the greatest dancers of her generation, she is also the most charming: she seems always so happy to dance, it's irresistible. I love her... sorry Thiago!
She just radiates pure gorgeousness 😍😍😍
Linda marianela Nunez amo ver ela dançar
royal ballet r so lucky to have nela
Marianela: a beautiful ballerina, but first, a fantastic artist!! 😍😍
oh my god they're so beautiful together
es un orgullo que Marianela sea argentina, algún día te voy a ver en vivo!
Una belleza de bailarina y como se entrega a la danza. ¡Preciosa!
I really like this choreography! And Marianela's dancing!
How are they both so soft on their feet? So light.

Marianela is lucky to have a career she loves. Not too many people can say that about their careers.

Her smile is so charming!

Is that a part of life stream
So sad she passed away...😔
0:48.ouch
moar!
First
1. He has a nice behind :)) and very nice legs
2. His face seems so unimpressed. I don't know why...but I have a feeling they divorced because he was jealous of her dancing.
And maybe it just didn’t work out. Let’s now speculate on others relationships 😁
The dancers are wonderful. The instructor a pain.
She’s just giving them corrections to make sure they do the moves are correctly and precisely and to make them even better dancers, it’s not a bad thing to get corrections it helps you become better and improv
Royal Ballet's Diamonds is amazingly white, from the costumes to the dancers. wonder which is whiter, Steve Bannon's America, or this??
This isn't Diamonds. Too Princessy. Just move. Watch the Farrell clip. It was choreographed on her. THAT is what it should look like. Very simple, very basic.
