@@mcSal You should check out the new cross stitch seat and headlight cowl that they [Honda] now offers for the Rebel models. The headlight cowl really makes the aesthetics of the bike stand out more. Matte blue for the win! Honda should offer more matte colors like desert tan, red, and deep purple.

Glad to see the 2020 version of the Rebel has the LED lights now when I buy my first bike that is definitely a yacht decision-maker because I'd like to see down the road and not just my brights on but my regular beans soaked I'm glad the look has definitely changed and I might even when I buy my first bike get the saddlebags because I travel to the store a lot and it'd be nice to have something to carry even a little bit of groceries in so thank you for the update and even though I wanted to do the beginner Rider course this year I'm putting it off one more year to make sure that I will be able to take the class due to the covid-19
@David Shore Be aware the new LED headlights are super bright and visible to others, but don't shine very far down the road. The brights go straight down the middle of the road to increase distance, but you still won't see a lot on the sides. Check out my headlight test video that compares the new LED headlight with our other bikes and vehicles. ruclips.net/video/Nrnn4D5ye_w/видео.html
Thank you for this video Sal! You pretty much helped answer every question I had. I wanted to see all the colors, and now I'm totally it love with the blue!! And I wanted a review on those very same viking saddle bags too :') !! Thank you!! Really nice family time you have here, it's family goals! (Ps. You just got to be careful of all that loose gravel on your roads.) If anyone is concerned about the viking bags being real leather, or vinyl, ether due to weather damage or if you're vegan, it's neither! "Viking leather (technical leather) is a high durability, leather-like material. It is designed specifically for the outdoors and for automotive applications, with a high level of utilization and element resistance. Not only is Viking Leather much more durable, it looks 100% like real leather. It will never fade or discolor. It has no soft material backing and no die color coating (won't peel like vinyl). It wont scratch. Viking Leather can only be distinguished from real leather by touch and smell, never by appearance."
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Great info on the saddlebags. And yes, I've felt the gravel give under the tires, so I'm very careful and take it slow through there.
Sal at Decco Ranch It has landed our shores finally! Yep that’s in Singapore dollars! (excl insurance) Cool find: Honda CMX500 Rebel (BRAND NEW AGENT MODEL) for S$21,250 sg.carousell.com/p/1017244177
I heard no mention of the saddle bag model. They appear to be Viking Bags. Also, are they mounted with quick release? Throw over? Also, the bag is too big for the passenger. I put on the shock cut out large and there is only small room for the passenger heal on the pegs. That will not be comfortable for a long ride. I see the same on your video. I returned my bags for Odin Medium (which i haven't received yet). These medium bags have more room between the bag side and the passenger foot peg.
Yes, they are Viking bags. Passengers have ridden on some of these bikes, but their primary complaint is with the passenger seat and feeling every bump in the road. The saddlebags have not been part of their complaints. But I'm sure that would vary between passengers.
It's a wise decision to wait for the 2020 model in my opinion. The previous version is good, but we have some really good upgrades for the new version. Overall, it's a really good choice you made there.
I loved your video! I'm planning on getting the 500 as a beginner bike and your video was extremely helpful. I was wondering how tall you are so I could estimate if my feet could reach the ground or not. For reference, I'm a 4'9" very short legged woman. Thank you!
Thank you! I'm 5'4", but Vi is 4'10" and can flat foot the Rebel. We tried to start her on the Grom, but it has 30" seats and she was on her tippy toes. So we started her on the Rebel with 27.2" seats where she was more comfortable. I'm guessing the Rebel would be a good fit. If not, there are other cruisers with lower seat height.
Thank you. I posted our first group ride a couple of days ago with all 3 bikes. Next will be a comparison of headlight visibility at night, comparing the Rebel to a car, truck, my other two bikes (KTM 390 Duke and the little Honda Grom), and a ranch quad. Subscribe and Join so you get notified!
Good choice! Three bikes isn't crazy after all, right? Which did you get, the DCT or Manual? I just bought an 1100, too! Just did a comparison video with the 500. Woohoo!
Cool deal. Congrats on the bike purchases! I have ridden since 1978 & I recently decided to pick up the last new Rebel 300 available in my area. I love it. So simple, lightweight & nimble. I like that it doesn’t have LED lights. I really think that people should know what gear they’re in.
If you got a 2020, they do have LED lights and gear indicators. You are right! They ARE simple, lightweight and nimble! Like you, I love riding the Honda Rebel!
@@blkjakk I don’t have a LED version and non-LED version, but did do a headlight comparison video with the 2020 Rebel’s LED headlight. That’s how I know it’s not great.
I’m 14 and am looking for a 1st vehicle. I honestly think this’ll be my first bike mainly because it looks like a Harley, as you said it was stable and light, it’s under 10k for a brand new one, and it’s a smaller one so it’d be easy for me to learn on
I own the 2019 Matt black one. I hope we can get that new display aftermarket for our 19's. I was hoping they made the gearing a little taller on the 2020. That's what I'm going to have to do to mine. She rev-ing pretty high at 70 to 75 on the highway which is fine for short highway trips, but if you got a 20 min drive to work it needs another tooth in the front sprocket to get that rpm down 500 to 1000 while cruising.
Good to know. I wish the dash had a white background with dark letters like the KTM's, instead of a dark background with white letters. Maybe some day Honda will make some of these changes.
Great review, looking to get my first bike I was trying to decide between the Kawasaki Vulcan S or the Honda Rebel 500 I am going to go with the 2020 Rebel 500 just like the features, just looks like it would be the perfect bike to start out with
@@SamTravels You may feel a bit cramped due to the low seat height and mid pegs. But... You will need to sit on it with a leg on a peg to really know if you would fit it or not.

The saddle bags can be purchased from VikingBags.com. I'm not sure which model, but they are lockable. The saddlebags have held up well. The highway pegs are from Kuryakyn and can be purchased from RevZilla.com. Of the three Rebel 500's with the highway pegs, both of my daughter's bikes have had the right peg blow off while out riding, leaving the peg framework. If I could do it all over again, I would get the saddle bags, but not the highway pegs.
Hi, would it be possible for you to do a video on how bright the lights are in the night? I wanna see how those new LEDs do. I typically drive in a place where it's basically countryside roads everywhere (similar to your neighborhood) and it is very dark in the night. I already have an idea on how dim were the lights on the previous rebel models, I just need to see how those LEDs do in your environment (e.g. how well does the headlight do, how far can the turn signal/brake lights can be seen from the dark, if possible how well do those LEDs do in typical city night environment, etc.). If those LEDs are better, I'll also buy the 2020 rebels in the next months.
Great review! My fiancé just got the blue 500 for me! Could you please list the crash bar/engine guard and chrome foot peg information? I need to add some mods to my new blue baby.
I don't know the info on the crash bars, engine guards and freeway pegs. They were ordered and installed by the dealer. I can try to find out. I do know that the saddle bags are made by Viking (vikingbags.com). You will love your new Rebel! Ride safe!
Sal at Decco Ranch what is the name of you dealership? Perhaps I could contact them and inquire about the mods you purchased or at least the mods they offer.
For beginner riders I recommend getting abs. If you are a seasoned rider then you presumably have alot of practice breaking at higher speeds. Which ever one you choose, ride safe and have fun!
Hi Sal, looking to purchase my first bike and your videos sold me on the Rebel 500, I love the saddle bags, do you have a link for them by any chance? Thanks

Sal, Doug here, I spotted your response to my question, when you got the "driving/fog lights"on your Rebels, I asked what type of saddle bags did you get for your Rebels,AND, I boosted your ego by "ACCUSING you of being "29"? or "32"? Better to just have them installed oem also aftermarket problem is they blink faster and have to get a relay which take the same amount of energy as the one halogens.
I have the 2019 one, and actually like it more with out the led lights and the new speedometer. Im used to the previous Rebel 250cc that didnt had any of it eheh, altough every one talks bad about the seat, i made long travels and didn´t had any problem but!, it could be better. My only issues with the Rebel is the passanger seat design was poorly made or they just put it there so say meh ... lets make it so some one can ride with it and, the exaust shape is just horrible that bazzoka shape, i rl would like them to chanse to something more appeling to the eye but with the same sound cuz it is ok ... Have nice rides every one!
One of our group had a passenger actually ride behind on the new black Rebel 500, and she said she felt every bump. So... guess the passenger seat is still not as good as it could be.
Good idea! Even though we have a lot of other bikes now, we still love our Rebel 500's. They are like the Mary Poppins of bikes.... practically perfect in every way for what they are.

You should check out the new cross stitch seat and headlight cowl that they [Honda] now offers for the Rebel models. The headlight cowl really makes the aesthetics of the bike stand out more. Matte blue for the win! Honda should offer more matte colors like desert tan, red, and deep purple.
Hey there, love the review! Where did you get your crash guards? My Rebel gets here Saturday, super pumped. Thanks
Matt McColm NorCal MotorSports in Sacramento, California ordered them for me. Sorry, but I just now saw your message. You should have your bike by now. What do you think of it?
@@mcSal oh... NorCal Motorsports eh... Well I'm going to have to head over there in the next week or so to check it out (in EDH) . Ive been itching for a Rebel 500 for a while now and this might have pushed me over the edge....err in a good way. Loved the vid and thanks for sharing.
Excellent description of the bikes, really enjoyed it.
Thank you!
Man, nice I love the blue jeans model, looks good with saddle bags !
Thank you! The saddlebags have come in very handy, too. I'm so glad I got them.
Beautiful bikes. The black one is my favorite.
The black is a very shiny black. All 3 colors were favorites for different people in our family. 👍
Great 2020 Rebel’s review video. Can you post a more details walk-around video.
Thx
Thank you! Maybe the next video can be close up shots of different parts.
Im taking my test in a week and have been going back and forth on which bike to get. Watching this has definitely solidified my decision.
Good luck on your test! And when you do get your bike, ride safe.
Thank you for this video Sal! You pretty much helped answer every question I had. I wanted to see all the colors, and now I'm totally it love with the blue!! And I wanted a review on those very same viking saddle bags too :') !! Thank you!! Really nice family time you have here, it's family goals! (Ps. You just got to be careful of all that loose gravel on your roads.)
If anyone is concerned about the viking bags being real leather, or vinyl, ether due to weather damage or if you're vegan, it's neither!
Thank you for the information!
So envy of you...We don’t even have it in my country....yet...Hopefully by year end...Ride safe!
Hope you get it soon. Thank you. Ride safe.
Sal at Decco Ranch It has landed our shores finally! Yep that’s in Singapore dollars! (excl insurance)
Cool find: Honda CMX500 Rebel (BRAND NEW AGENT MODEL) for S$21,250 sg.carousell.com/p/1017244177
The weather looks awesome there, perfect for motorbikes,
Yes, it was a beautiful day in sunny California.
Thank you! Good to hear.
Appreciate your honest review! Nice bikes.
Thank you! After having the bikes since last spring, we still love riding them!
Aww you’re sooo tiny, buy a tricycle with a motor. lol jk
There is a site called "cycle ergo" that should help you find out what fits your body type.
This video was great, I hope you make more with this bike, I'm thinking about getting this bike when it arrives in Australia
@@mcSal awesome I'll go watch it now, subscribed.
Nice!! I just bought 3 Rebel 1100s. Nice bikes!
@@mcSal No I bought the 2019 model. I didn’t want LED lights or the slipper assist clutch!
@@blkjakk I don't blame you on the LED lights. They are bright, but don't extend very far at all.
@@mcSal That’s what I was afraid of. Well it would be cool if someone who had both did a comparison of the headlight projection!
@@blkjakk I don’t have a LED version and non-LED version, but did do a headlight comparison video with the 2020 Rebel’s LED headlight. That’s how I know it’s not great.
I’m 14 and am looking for a 1st vehicle. I honestly think this’ll be my first bike mainly because it looks like a Harley, as you said it was stable and light, it’s under 10k for a brand new one, and it’s a smaller one so it’d be easy for me to learn on
I think it would be a wonderful first bike!
Great video! Have been searching for a comparison video like this for at least 2 weeks!
Thank you! Great to hear!
Great review, looking to get my first bike I was trying to decide between the Kawasaki Vulcan S or the Honda Rebel 500 I am going to go with the 2020 Rebel 500 just like the features, just looks like it would be the perfect bike to start out with
Thank you! Either bike would be a great choice. I agree that the Rebel has some really nice features for its price. I'm happy I got them.
forget about kawasaki. honda will last forever , and this new model is a perfect machine. unless you are 6.2``tall.

Check out Corbin motorcycle seats for the rebel. In terms of comfort, there is no comparison at all. Gosh, to think that I know a movie star
Lol. Hi, Bill! I have no problem with the new Rebel seat. The passenger seat is not great, though. I didn't know you knew about bikes! Yay!

A good exhaust option if you want to upgrade is the Lextech, sounds awesome and really good value. There's also a different seat in some markets that has a nice stitching on it, might be able to get online but think you'd like.

Hi Sal, could you please share details on front pegs and saddle bags, make and model. Thank you!

Absolutely! I'll test the lights at night with marked off distances and post it when I'm done.
Wow what a wonderful review thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
@@andreamcwva NorCal MotorSports in Sacramento, California.
I'm considering the 2020 rebel 500 because of the improvements. I want the blue like yours, not sure if i'll bother with the ABS though.
For beginner riders I recommend getting abs. If you are a seasoned rider then you presumably have alot of practice breaking at higher speeds.
Which ever one you choose, ride safe and have fun!

Yes. But I didn't want to pay for aftermarket when the new 2020's are the same price as the 2019's.
Better to just have them installed oem also aftermarket problem is they blink faster and have to get a relay which take the same amount of energy as the one halogens.

Beginners bikes are scooters you are on a rebel 💥
You are correct. The Rebel is listed as a beginner to immediate bike.

Very cool. What brand are the forward pegs? I also got the 2020 for most of the same reasons (lights and gauges with gear). I have not considered the saddle bags, but they look pretty good on the bike.
Thank you! I believe the highway pegs are Kuryakyn. The dealership is replacing them. Odd thing is that 2 of our 3 Rebels lost the right highway peg. My blue one still has both forward pegs. The locking saddlebags are made by Viking (VikingBags.com).

I got them through NorCal MotorSports in Sacramento, CA. Not sure what brand, but I'll find out. There were other crash guards that came farther out from the bike, but didn't get them because it would have been too far out with the front cruising pegs added.
