- Though it might not seem like it sometimes, you don’t need a crazy amount of money. Or much money at all. Our buddy Bryce can attest to that; especially when it got so much attention on Larry’s IG page among all the usual high-end machinery that usually resides there. What’s better than flogging an ‘82 diesel Mercedes in the desert, especially when the whole thing costs less than a wild night out in Vegas.

@@TheDaemon66 Evo 1 started out as a rallye project (same as the E30 M3). After Audi came out with their quattro system Mercedes switched to touring cars and eventually upgraded the Evo to the 2 to be more competitive.

It probably has some bad rear control arm bushings. Mine does something similar and a bushing is sticking in the rear.

I have the same car with a window sticker of $37,xxx in 1984. I pad $400 for mine and I'm currently manual trans swapping it. It's got a home built 2 stage propane injection kit and a turned up injection pump. I love it.
There is a Rolls-Royce with a long travel suspension out there in the inland empire it's a head turner

I just love it, the look, the interiour, and the sound, I don't care it's not 1000WHP I love the sound, If it was leagl to drive on Norwegian roads, what would never happens, i would Daily drive this for sure
They won't let you get a lift, bumper delete, and larger tires in norway? I can see them not allowing the exhaust, but you can live with the stock exhaust.

The Norwegian DMV every mod have to be registrated, and Verified.
ONLY Wheels thats inside the size limit Are legal and bumper delete, nope that almost impossible cus Sharp edges can be dangerous for pedestrians.
Aftermarket rear Wing you can forget ONLY if original or Verified under rally var system tho you can only drive between practice or competition,

But worst part is that the laws around modifications is very complicated.

Dude used 6 months to get a 69 Camaro road legal with 1800whp but when he wanted better Brakes for the safety, it took him two years
@@magnusfjellheimkristensen3643 Can't a lot of that stuff be hidden? I mean, how will the police or government know your engine is stroked? Will they actually measure tire diameter? Will they actually inspect to see that the drums in the rear were replaced with discs? Crazy.

The 300sd was one of the top of the line luxury diesels of the time so no I doubt they envisioned that but it's cool anyway. I had a 95 300d with a na diesel I used to drift it was difficult to keep sideways but with weight transfer I could just fling it into turns.

Mercedes has dipped their feet into rallying (With Walther Röhrl even), but they have been in Dakar for decades with the G-Wagon and the Unimog.

Merc's have won the most difficult rally in the world thrice on the trot bro. Safari Rally circa 1957 was no joke.
My 300D was in Off Road mag 2013 out there. I went up chocolate thunder and the car was lowered 2 inches.
Every post-apocalyptic movie features camo-clad dorks shooting at eachother when in reality If a situation like that ever occurs you will need people who know farming/botany, doctors and one dude who knows how to wrench on old diesel Mercs cause these things will last until the four horsemen’s horses pass of old age!
In the 70s/80s A few world rallies Mercedes entered and won 1-2: The London-Sydney Marathon - a 19,000 mile car killer, and the Around The Americas, another 19,000 mile on and offroad bash through 10 not-always-developed countries. They entered C107s and W123 coupes. A decade before that Swedish rally girls Ewy Rosqvist and Ursula Wirth were winning and setting new records with their W111. A decade before that it was the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico with a W194. I know I'm missing a bunch, but MB has a long history of bashing rough ground .

My first and only Mercedes so far a 1990 300S
London to Sydney kind of rally! I think a couple of other endurance rallies also, but nothing serial, from the factory, lest you count the story of the 190e Evo.

That OM617 is bulletproof and has power potential. Slap a used turbo on it, get some bigger elements for the fuel pump and you can easily make 300HP reliably
OM606 too. Can make up to 700HP on stock internals !!!!

The dude misunderstood your question about Mercedes in rally, not surprising for someone who goes to Coos Bay for fun. The Mercedes SLC competed in WRC in the late 70s, and I think that was the last time.
The Mercedes 190E was going to be a Group B Rally car but Audi came out with the quattro just before Merc could finish the 190, it went on to be a DTM champion
