My grandfather on my mother's side died while one of these blocks of flats were under construction. Something fell from the top of the site and hit him on the head. That was in 1965. He was working on the site. There was no health and safety in those days, and there was no knowledge of how to deal with serious head injuries. My mother was an 11 year old child and my aunt was not even 2 years old. I lived in Royston from 2008 until 2013 and I used to walk over to the big Tesco there to get my shopping every week with my carer.
born in fountainwell and moved to pinkston 10 years later....great place to grow up. bought a lot of sweeties at RS McColls while my da got pissed in the sidings
I remember that sighthill in the early 2000's had a fucking horrible reputation. If you weren't from there it wasn't wise not to venture into it at one point.
They’re a really hard one to research, I’m trying to find as much information as possible. In the meantime, I’ll make a part 3 to the Sighthill episodes with the St Rollox Chemical Plant,
Pinkston flats were not identical to Fountainwell. Parson Heights And Hartfield heights had larger apartments, two lifts on every floor as well as a drying green on each side and every floor. Smaller flats were not built around both parts of the estate but were instead built in Fountainwell only. Incorporate this and I will delete. ;)
That’s quite interesting. Fountainwell was a bit before my time so I never knew that, the video’s over two years old now so I don’t think there’s any point in updating it, however if people are interested I would be willing to completely remake it since there’s a lot of information I’ve found out about Sighthill and other tower blocks after making a video about them.
Brilliant son another great historic documentary on the high rise flats of sunny Glasgow 💯🙂❤️🏴👍
Thanks dad
Lived in Sighthill from 1967-1990, loved the place and the people, brilliant place to be brought up in.

Stayed in pinkston drive from 2001-2006 and wish I got to see the high rises before they got demolished; so many memories there😊
My ex in-laws lived there Walter and Annie Graham.Robert and Richard their sons.

If you on google maps in 2008 you can see one of the towers demolished
