Strange Google Maps Glitch (road that takes you back in time!!!!)
Even though I know these were not ideal to live in. (Dampness, Anti Social Behaviour, etc) I’ve always loved the design of 1960 / 70s Scottish High Flats. People call them an eyesore but I think most of them look pretty good and well designed. I heard a lot of the flats in Glasgow were inspired by the Russian style flats. Not sure if that’s true or not though.
i reccomend uk housing wiki as a search source
@@techproductions2 I've seen that a few times during my research, sometimes it can be really good but on lesser known ones it doesn’t have as much, mind you that was a while ago so it might be better now. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll definitely check it out for my next video!
@@SpaceDogGlobalEntertainment im gonna start posting so im currently preparing for my first video but before i start im gonna visit the area to gather from residents, its actually not to bad tbh! wikipedia is good to.
My grandfather on my mother's side died while one of these blocks of flats were under construction. Something fell from the top of the site and hit him on the head. That was in 1965. He was working on the site. There was no health and safety in those days, and there was no knowledge of how to deal with serious head injuries. My mother was an 11 year old child and my aunt was not even 2 years old. I lived in Royston from 2008 until 2013 and I used to walk over to the big Tesco there to get my shopping every week with my carer.
My father's mother lived in those flats (I can't remember which block she was in, or what floor.) I remember when they added the new roofs, thy reminded me of strawberry or raspberry jelly and vanilla ice cream. I hadn't seen my father or my grandmother for several years by that point. The last time I was in those flats was when I was about 4 and a half years old (just before the divorce and my father's loss of custody). I remember thinking that the birds outside the windows looked like tea leaves. I was there when they were blown up with my mother and my best friend. My grandmother had moved to Govanhill. I saw her a handful of times before she died in 1999. I got back in contact with my father (with permission) in 1994. Ironically enough, I moved to Govanhill in 2013, and I lived around the corner from the house my paternal grandmother moved to from the Queen Elizabeth Square flats -- Hollybrook Street. I lived on Batson Street from 2013 until 2016.
The flats where built in barlornock there was only 1 flat in barmulloch at birnie court
Thank you for a fun history story
Theres still a good 30+ of these high rises dotted around Belfast, the biggest are the new lodge and rathcoole, can see them from the other side of the city. remember visiting glasgow back In the day and there was so many high rises, place looked like russia. Must have been 100s of this type of thing. I know a lot have been knocked though.
Great to hear a fellow Scot tell a story about a building located in a city i visit a few times a year 👌 and you tell it so well.
Another beauty of a video, Glad you’re back
Worked their during construction for a while . Workers great but Not a nice place to be.. work in the main was organized Chaos
Nice enough houses now. But the residents keep the place looking like a slum.
This is a great video! ❤
These videos just keep getting more and more interesting!
FINALLY , ITS BEEN YEARS!!! Also glad to know that Divis tower is now liveable and friendly to its residence. Plus the new roof which definateky added alot.
good content but audio was way to low.
Thanks! Yeah I was having problems with the audio while I was editing it, thought I’d fixed it but it doesn’t seem to have worked.
Comment for engagement 😁
Thanks! Helps a lot!
@@SpaceDogGlobalEntertainmentOf course!
Another great video!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Lets go Brandon😂
My ex in-laws lived there Walter and Annie Graham.Robert and Richard their sons. ❤❤
Pinkston flats were not identical to Fountainwell. Parson Heights And Hartfield heights had larger apartments, two lifts on every floor as well as a drying green on each side and every floor. Smaller flats were not built around both parts of the estate but were instead built in Fountainwell only. Incorporate this and I will delete. ;)
That’s quite interesting. Fountainwell was a bit before my time so I never knew that, the video’s over two years old now so I don’t think there’s any point in updating it, however if people are interested I would be willing to completely remake it since there’s a lot of information I’ve found out about Sighthill and other tower blocks after making a video about them.
Pq o red road Foi Demolido? Eles Eram tao Novos Oq aconteceu?
They were considered a nice place to live at first, but later on they started to become more run-down, and the council decided to demolish them because the cost of maintaining the buildings was lower than the rent they were receiving. Apparently they wanted to build new houses on the site, but it’s been 8 years and still nothing has been built.
A eu entendi
Como eles tirou a cor dos Prédio Tbm?
Space Você já Morou No Red road?
@@MigsPorteNews The actual structures of the buildings were made from steel, basically the colours were part of the outside shell of the building, which was removed prior to demolition along with the interior, so that only the steel frame of the building remained. It was probably to stop debris, and they had to remove the windows which were part of this shell so that glass shards couldn’t injure people.
The "Rubble" That is still there is for the promised "new" homes. Its not rubble. But good video.
That was a picture of tranent
Dunno how this ended up in my feeds but this reminds me of the two we had in Watney Market east London. I used to visit my mate who lived on the 19th floor of one of them and the good thing was they were huge flats and you didn't have to talk to anyone so that was another bonus 😂. In the end they brought them down due to Asbestos, but kept the foundations of one of them and rebuilt it and it still stands now as Winterton House. I wouldn't go in either of them when it was windy as I heard they swayed and always thought I'd just sit down with me cuppa brew ☕ ready for a gossip with me mate and the building would go over 🤦😂.
Nice to see someone making a video about Cockenzie power station. Some good facts but some a tad off. The station ran on coal only with heavy fuel oil and propane used only to start the burners. It had no natural gas. It closed when it opted out of installing a flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) as part of the EUs Large Combustion Plant Directive which only allowed the plant to run a further 20000 hours per stack or until 2015 whichever came sooner. The plant mainly ran during the winter months during its final years. Was a great place to work
very educational no laughing around 😊
nothings better than landing on holiday tbh
Agreed, although nothing’s worse than coming back again after great weather to the freezing cold XD
hi spacedog global entertainment
Hello!
Can you make a new video this time try sandiefield road flats ok😊😊😊❤❤❤
@@KielGeofersonCeleste-h2t I’ll have a look into them, I might not be able to make a full video on them if there’s not enough information but I could at least do a short if there’s not enough for a full video.
It's ok ❤❤❤
also I built red road flats in Minecraft an replica of it including Anniesland court
i will go into a rage if these don’t still exist
Actually I think the original copy of this does still exist, I still have it somewhere I think
Classic XD

Thanks for the support and enjoy! Hoping to release my new one about the Divis Tower soon
I lived in the Bluevale flats. 6 up. Horrible experience. Flat got tanned when I was out. Junkies and alkies everywhere. Should do the Rosemount Street flats in Royston. Lived there also. In Parkhead now. ✌️
my dad lived in dennistoun when he first moved to glasgow from the east coast. im pretty sure that hs saw someone threw their entire flat out
Mining
grew up in these flats, used to have flies come up the sinks and drains. was definitely horrible living conditions
Disgusting… feel bad for you.
Merry Christmas!🎄
Hey Samuel, haven’t seen you on RUclips in ages! Merry Christmas!
@@SpaceDogGlobalEntertainment just don't really comment that much lol
Those flats are an eyesore .look at the beautiful old sandstone buildings and old architecture in the area .then then that brutalist monster sticking up .What an insult to the fine craftsmanship of the past .I realise cities are constantly evolving I just find tower blocks an ugly solution for over crowding. I'm sure in the right setting they have their place .
they had mold apparently
Wouldn’t surprise me with the shape of their roofs to be honest. Most tower blocks with a flat roof had some kind of issue with that.
@@SpaceDogGlobalEntertainmentyeah
Many a good time spent partying in the YMCA block between 1989 and 1992,they were used by Stobhill Hospital to house Student Nurses.
Update: I think Cats and Dogs 3 was absolutely awful. Like, it completely ignored the last two films, and was one of the most boring films I’ve ever watched, I guess I said that I liked it here because of the excitement, since I absolutely loved the first two films back then, and I got excited when I heard that the third one had been released. After watching it a few more times, I decided I hated it.
Its an iconic structure for sure, and a great reference point for where ye are, are going.
Good pics, I live there love it and hated it. x
You should sound more authentic when narrating this presentation, and not sound like an unambitious person who drops out of school at the age of 16, like as if Your teacher has given You a simple assignment to do for Your topic in history class! I don't want to sound ignorant, but I also speak in Glasweigan, and yet, even I know that I should know to give a more heartfelt narration than the kind that just sounds NEDish sounding, if You know what I mean! I know You are probably thinking what's the big deal, and yes, I completely agree, but sometimes the smallest issues can become more of a bigger deal than We think... It's strange! Look I'm sorry if I sound like I am whining here, it's just My opinion, but it's because I am Scottish also, and only Our kind (most of them) will understand what I mean on this subject! 😅 But as a whole, the video is genuinely useful for historical purposes, even though the narration could have been better, but that's only My opinion! Take care! 😉👍
Good to hear she's getting more attractive funnels although i always thought her large single funnel made her look more imposing.
