I watch many podcasts on how to fix things but this one is the most entertaining. Kudos to your production crew. All 1000 of them. Fire it up. Fire it up. Fire it up.
A masterpiece , the special effects are second to none. Speilborg and G. Luscus had better watch out! The Kroler carnage was almost too gorry to bear. I smell an Acamady Award in the works. Thank You for my rockin dinner.
I blew up my Kohler this morning too! That happens when I try to eat a whole pizza for supper. I think the Kohler motors are made in the same factory as the terlets anyway.
I saw a video a few years back, of someone who on purpose, blew up a good running Kohler Command single cylinder. Yeah, one of the good ones. They drained the oil then ran it till it threw its rod. Took a good 5 min or more if I remember right. I commented on their video that they had effed up, and ruined a great engine.
The special effects are definitely getting better - keep it up! It's always fun blowing up an engine. I buy lawn tractors with rusted decks for $50 - $100 for the running engine.
I totally understand why you would not want to re-build that engine, however, you would have a lot more spare parts to save another engine if you had not let it explode. (But it did make for a great video). Thanks!
Great video guys, cool special effects. It is amazing the damage that occurs when an engine throws a rod. I bought a very good condition Craftsman DYT this summer with a blown engine, a single cylinder 19 hp Intek. I opened the case and the camshaft was badly bent, but the decompression release was intact. The governor gear was completely intact. The rod was shattered into 30 pieces. I'll replace it with a good 17hp Kohler Command I have.
Need more elskins..... lol he seems like a good feller i enjoy your guys videos slips, jr, taryl, elskins the hole gang..... thanks for the hard work and tips
sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Kade Keenan Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
That was a dumb skit..........But I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....It does hurt to blow up an engine, but I loved that too. That part that the space ship needed was exactly what I thought it needed!!!! Glad you had one on the shelf, I had to replace one just the other day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........Good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If he was mowing at night he would have been fine.. in total darkness you can see the pathetic faint oil pressure light which would tell you something's wrong. unfortunately it's totally invisible in daylight... good one Krohler... I modified mine to have a proper bright oil pressure light (drilled through dash plate) after my rubbish plastic Krohler oil drain stop cock let go and dumped the oil in the grass. I was just lucky to have spotted it before damage was done.
I modify all customers' mowers by routing a wire from the spark plug through a relay, then to the hand grips, so when the oil low indicator engages the relay, the operator experiences a bowel moving notification, which basically ejects them off the seat, and the engines shuts off. Works great.
Taryl, I hope you have health insurance for your employees. Got Elk Skinns, jogging over there, barely looks healthy enough to lift his next White Castle Slider. Keep up the good work. Let's see that Briggs go in the Hooskervarner!
@@mattyg941 He's my new favorite character, honestly. The "shut up!" Taryl gives Elk Skins reminds me of when he used to throw Slippers over the fence. I don't think he looks terrible at all - just needs to wash his hands. You can tell he's been working for real.
I have a 6hp predator on my air compressor, 2 years now and still runs great. it was $89 and if only runs one more time I'll just get another. I'd never buy the big HFT vtwin one, I'd just get a used engine, every riding mower for 20+ years has a 20hp on it and can be had used for 100-200$ why risk the 7-800 on a china freight engine? get a used Kohler command or Briggs Vanguard.
Thanks for this one Taryl. I always wondered what actually happens and sounds like when the engine blows, and now I know. I understand that a lot of engines get mounted differently so they require various drain plugs. However, the company that utilizes the engine should lock the unused plugs. Pretty cool graphics in this video. Lastly, why did the Taryl Fixes All logo go from green to orange? Is this a seasonal thing? Another great Halloween season in Podunk!
Is Kohler COURAGE a Bottom-of the-Barrel engine line for them ??? HOPEFULLY if that was a Kohler COMMAND PRO, you would have fixed it. OR would you have let that blow up too ???
I have a Kohler command 23 with this same failure, it was only running on 1 cylinder. Found the piston not moving and it has broken a rod and was still running. Somehow the block was not damaged but I’m not fixing it.
I just rebuilt a 20 HP Briggs and Stratton intek that had the correct amount of oil in it but somehow it still managed to shatter the rod just enough to bend the cam that cracked the block. 300 in parts and still made 550 on the tractor.
Unfortunately I wasn't as careful as you. I kept forgetting to check the oil on my riding mower and used it extensively for lawn service. Over time it burned alot of oil and was running low but i never noticed. One day i started it up and drove a short distance. Everything sounded normal to me. Less than a minute later the engine threw a rod. Absolutely destroyed. Check you oil every time!
If the piston skirt doesn't come right down to the dinged up part of the bottom edge of the cylinder & the cylinder isn't scored then I'd fix the engine up for my personal use only, because I can get the cases welded up,I wouldn't rebuild it for a customer at their expense as it may fail on them or as Taryl mentioned there's the wait on parts,if you do it up for yourself then you can wait. I'd say the aluminium can be polished off the crankshaft Journal since the aluminium connecting rod is softer than the crankshaft journal !
Hey Teryl you could buy some jb weld and fix the block, polish up the crankshaft and straighten out the camshaft and put it all back together with a new piston and Rod.
The Courage engine by Kohler was the biggest mistake that company ever made. Plastic cam gears, top plate bolts vibe- rating lose causing oil leakage and finally blowing up. My mower salesman said they delivered a brand new one" Courage powered engine", years ago and it blew up before they returned to the shop. Thank God they fired the engineers on that build!
Taryl, I don’t know how many women follow you but it’s a lot of fun for me.. spent almost 15 years working on cars with my hubby. Good humor too..once when he was diagnosing a low oil pressure in One of the valves, he wanted me to see how that worked with the valve covers cut out, the oil would squirt out and hit this little piece of metal and fall back down inside -squirt squirt squirt ...so I poked my head in there with the van running, and just then the metal tab moved and it went squirt squirt squirt right on my face..
Neat seeing the inside of one of these. Have a new air compressor that I'm guessing will be better to upgrade to the 190 Intek and be a gas engine portable one. Thinking leave the electric 60 gallon one even though has the inferior compressor. Looks like either an electric actuator solenoid with the regulator switch installed already or the pressure release contraption with cable and a go kart clutch on the engine. Anyhow, that will get me going for the seized pulley removal treatment without heat first and then with heat post cherry red quenching with the ground down flatter point air hammer fun. Skip expensive 5HP electric motors if I can. Thanks for sharing!
I'll be honest, sometimes I'm just here for the new skits 👍
Agree. He should do just skits. Love them!
they're not skits. this is Taryl's real every day life
The whole thing is a skit. Fire it up x3!!
Haha.. I use to skip them I was up late one night. Watching the skit about unwanted junk yard parts adoptions. My wife was like what are you watching

I had the same Kroler on my Dixon zero turn that the drain plug came out of too. It went boom also!
but it just needed $1000 in work, for a $200 engine,
Those damned V-twins start at $1.7k (on a $2k mower), but yeah.
I enjoy your channel too dude

That's a real quality engine there, too

12:36 I also need to take my crank out and have it polished. Then maybe I could grind my crank. Possibly even get an oversized rod, or two..
Eric from South Main Auto calls the pieces “kibbles and bits.” 😁
You're lucky, In the UK our Globs only speak Arabic
Just wondering, in the UK, do they still use the expression “Arab on the corner?“ lol
Its here too only more slowly. They want nothing to do with americans. Seperate society in every way.

I enjoy the negative comment voice as much as the videos.
I have never seen taryl work so fast before.
Where can I get some of those mats you used?
I have a Kohler command 23 with this same failure, it was only running on 1 cylinder. Found the piston not moving and it has broken a rod and was still running. Somehow the block was not damaged but I’m not fixing it.
Besides the being worth the money or the time. It made a great video! Thank you
Do you even have any predator motors come in
You can make a desirable Yard Art Lamp beginning with the crank bolted to an old Disc Brake rotor.
I just rebuilt a 20 HP Briggs and Stratton intek that had the correct amount of oil in it but somehow it still managed to shatter the rod just enough to bend the cam that cracked the block. 300 in parts and still made 550 on the tractor.
Had a pump but I put back together and it was working fine. Could have failed? Not sure what did but would be interested in knowing .
Awesome taryl video
This is why I always check my oil before starting my mower and look it over. That plug had to have been leaking before it came all the way out.
And glad to see Elk Skins getting in on the action. When is he getting a shirt?
Sadly people don't do this. I do it every time before I start a small engine, even if I know the machine.
Unfortunately I wasn't as careful as you. I kept forgetting to check the oil on my riding mower and used it extensively for lawn service. Over time it burned alot of oil and was running low but i never noticed. One day i started it up and drove a short distance. Everything sounded normal to me.
