First Attempt to Propagate a Sansevieria (Snake Plant)

- A leave fell off my plant so I decided try to propagate it. I tried two methods. Come see how these methods works for me. The outcome really depends on the variety of plant and the environment you have it in. For example the temperature...the humidity...the moisture and soil. So my outcome might be different than yours and others who had tried to propagate this Sansevieria.

Interesting! Love how they rooted in water so quickly. Love the blue & white planter!
Water propagation worked better for me then from the cutting out directly in soil. I just have put the water propagated one in soil. Fingers crossed. Also think it took over a month to show over 1 cm roots. Also. From a leaf that came out.
Yeah they do take a long time to root. But with warmer weather it shouldn’t take as long. Wish you luck with your new propagations. 😁💚🌱
Yay excited to see new growth! I never had good success with propagating snake plants!
Thanks for sharing about Propagation
Wow thanks for this!! Cant wait to see updates on these little guys!
I love ur videos. U describe things in language I can understand. Thank u for making these videos.😉
I’m glad this video was helpful. Thanks for watching. 😁💚🌱
They do a long time to make roots but they make. I have propagate them in soil. But i never have try in water. Nice roots. They will make roots in soil. Just be patient. I was waiting 6 months if i remember correct to make roots.
Olga's dreamland yeah the snake plants are slow growers I should have known...and wow?! 6 months. That’s such a long time. I get impatient sometimes dunno if I can wait that long. 😁. Well I’m glad I got mine to root. Hope they all grow up to be happy plants.
what is your process for progating in the soil? Like how do you water the cuttings and how often?
Chela Williams soil propagation takes much longer. It took months when I saw roots when water propagating so imagine how much longer in soil. And when propagating in soil I water when soil dries out. I didn’t really pay much attention to it.
Wow. Two plants from one leaf
Hi, I enjoyed watching this video. I grew a broke leaf in soil, but it took months for signs of roots and almost a year for babies. Seems like the water would have been faster. Have you made an update of this video, of them growing babies? Would love to see its progress.
I don’t think I’ve made an update on the little pups that’s popping up. Maybe I’ll do that soon since I’m trying to find new material to film. 😊. Thanks for watching. 😊🌱💚
interesting to see how water propagation method is better than putting the plant directly into the soil.,it will be exciting to see how long it will take for the tiny plant to develop as I have not tried propagated snake plant before.I know some people/grower use mosquito bits for fungus gnats and it works and i think it is even better that it is being mixed with the soil.
I will make another update as soon as I see any changes. As for the gnats...dunno why I don’t seem to be able to get rid of them. The mosquito bits don’t seem to be working. The yellow sticky are catching them but there still so many flying around. Maybe I’ll use sand and pumice on top of my soil. I was told to give that a try.
BEAUTIFUL PLANTS CACTUS
I Love Sanseveria..I Love making DIY unique Pots for them..Thanks for sharing about Propagation..New friend here..
Yeah, your gardening tools are so cute.
😁 very cute and useful. They still sell them at the Christmas Tree Shop if you have that store near you.
Très bonne explication , j’ai vraiment aimé ta vidéo . Un gros merci .
Thank you! I'm glad you like this video. 😊💚🌱
Got Plants? Merci à toi pour tes bons conseils et le partage de vidéo .
My mind is to propagate a lot od seedlings and plant them very dense. Im sure there will be effect on size and thickness of leaf. Did U try such way?
No I’ve kept it potted as is. So far new growth is coming but they are all very young and tiny so can’t tell how full it would get. Maybe will have to repot and out them all together.
Have you used the styrofoam in your plants a lot and what is the purpose......Just wondering because I haven't anyone do that before.
Granny Lion we don’t use styrofoam much. Actually we don’t use it anymore because so many people out there complaining about it. We never experienced a problem tho. Also in the past many had used it too. Oh well...Dunno. We use it to make pot smaller and drainage reasons.
Did you let the wounds heal over before putting them in the soil or water?
When I did it I didn't. I placed it in soil and water right away. I do know that some people do recommend letting it heal over tho.
Great video! Where do you buy the white mesh at the end??
They are plastic canvas squares / mesh plastic canvas and you can purchase those at any crafts stores.
Hi sandy it’s been a year now that you repotted you pink princess philodendron. Can you pleaseeee do an update. I’m dying to see how she’s grown. I brought two one 4” and 6”pink princess philodendron...is it ok to but them together in the same pot?
Sorry I know this video had nothing to do with PPP 🥺
Daisy Salinas funny you asked. My sis and I just filmed and propagated our PPP last Friday. Will try to finish up editing and maybe have it up by tomorrow. 💚😁💕
Daisy Salinas I don’t see why you can’t combine the two plants. That would be it look nice and full I think. 💗🌱
OMG!!!!! Sandy I can wait to see her she must look beautiful. My 6” I ordered yesterday. My 4” I have already from Gabriella’s plant. Now looking to buy a pink pot. Lol I will see if Two PPP will be ok together. I can’t wait to see ur video. 🌸💞🌸
Where did you get those cute little tools? I have been looking for some but can't find the small ones.
Dianne I got these tools at a place call the Christmas Tree Shop. They were pretty affordable too...just a couple of bucks.
Good video. I tried in the water approach; after a month it rot. Now I'm trying in the soil but I have used rooting hormone. It's still only one week now. Let's see what happens in a month or two :-)
webbezzy patience is the key when propagating these. It took mine forever before I saw the start of roots. Wish you luck with yours. 💚🌱
Marking on the plant will tell you which way to plant.
loved your video thank you for sharing May I ask the name fo stem plant you had in with them I'd like leaves bright green like that
DEBRA BronzeNyc17 do you mean the plant in at 8:08? It’s a Aptenia cordifolia variegata 'Crystal' - Heartleaf Ice Plant. 💚🌱
Same with me. Nothing. And some went mushy. I kept mine inside, did that made them go mushy from the bottom. They are getting lots light though out the day.
parales03 having them indoors shouldn’t be the reason...I kept some of mine indoors. How mushy was it? If it’s just a little soft on the cut part maybe it’s still ok. Was it placed in the water or soil in the correction growing direction because that makes a difference. Make sure you give it clean water every now and then if you use the water method. Just keep on trying. Not all propagation always work out.
Got Plants? It so soggy to the point were it was transparent. As soon as I cut the leaves I placed them in water. After the 20 day that’s when it got very soggy. I placed 10 in water and 10 in soil and they all went soggy. I don’t understand what I did wrong. Also the ones in water made the water all green so I kept replacing the water but eventually it was so gross that I had to throw it away.
parales03 after the cut try to wait for the cuttings to callus over. Also use filtered / distilled water. That might help...sorry to hear that your cuttings are getting mushy.
Excuse - moi je voudrais juste savoir dans le min 9:57 ton pot pour les plantes , est- ce qu’il a un trou pour le drainage ?
Yes the pot I have do have a drainage hole in it. 😊💚🌱
I hope you have better luck than I did!
I had success in all those cuttings. I was surprised. I was lucky I guess because not all my propagations always work.
Mine 3 weeks on water. 10 of them. Still nothing. Huhu
Patient is the key. Depending of the environment you’re in...time varies. Also not all propagation are successful. I’m trying some ZZs and it’s over a month and I still see nothing. 😁💚🌱
@@GotPlants oh ok. Thanks.
how will the top look after awhile? will the tip grow back? or will it forever be flat top
Unfortunately they will remind flat and have that chopped off look. I’ve recently done a update on my snake plants and how my propagations look after 8 months. Please go take a look. 😊🌱💚
Next time leave your cutting out for 3 days to dry out. It always worked for me.
Thanks for the tip! Luckily all mine survived. And it’s now a pretty big plant too. 💚🪴
I tried this procedure but my snake plant weren't make it. :( Q: When is the best time to water it? Those planted in soil.
Propagation doesn't always work. We just have to keep on trying. I guess that time I was just lucky and didn't even lose one.
As for watering...I water mine when it's completely dry.
Thank you for giving me hope, I will try it again for the 4th time. Wish me luck. Many thanks too...
Vhin Tube keep them
on the drier side. That should help. Put them somewhere warm and bright. Not direct tho. Gluck!
Oh if you’re water rooting change out new water every week or so. Maybe use filtered water if it see to not like the tap.
Some people say Disprin tablets can be used as growth hormone. Is it true?
Never heard of Disprin Tablets...are they the same as Aspirin here in the US? I really don't know...Sorry.
@@GotPlants Yes..they are aspirin tablets..company just named them disprin like vaseline.. Haha 😂
I’ve already used dispirin for dying plants and can confirm that for you. Yes, it does work for that.
Do you change tbe water every so days.
Yes water should be changed....if not every few days at least once a week. It's also a good time to check if the cuttings is still good and not soft and rotting away.
I also tried propagating in soil and it did not work. I will have to try water next time.
Ana Amaral soil should work too. It just takes a long time. 😁
Nicely explained, Interesting video 😊👍💟💞💕💖💗
Thank you! 😊🌱
