The second module should also be waterproof, I accidentally dropped my action 2 in the sea 🌊 and the screen module died, I ordered a battery module so I could still use the action 2, so that was good, then after 3 weeks like a resurrected christ my screen module came back to life lol. So if you drop it in the sea 🌊 leave it alone for about a month and it may come back from the dead, or better yet just don't drop it in the sea 🌊
There is a waterproof case on sale at B & H for $25! I would not go near water with the bottom module unprotected!

If the on board storage were 128, 256 or 512gb it could be like a near perfect action camera for me. Add a silicon or plastic protective case, a glass protection for screen and lens, and voilà. I like the overall concept, even without micro SD slot if the storage is big enough and the data transfer fast enough.
A second generation must have a interchangeable lens cap. Glass is fragile and scratchable in action use.

Dji abandoned the pocket 2 after just 14 months. No update for nearly 6 months. Now it has a problem with time-lapse mode. The gimbal has an odd giggle

As for your problem - I'd try another calbe. If this doesn't help - try it on another PC - to make sure that the camera is still fine.

Please talk about the problems with the Insta go2 overheating in 10 minutes or less in a 70 degree car.... And the battery life of maybe 15 to 20 minutes if you have the air conditioner blowing directly on it also in pro mode which obviously if you're using an action camera you need rocksteady and horizon lock ......
Most cameras will overheat in a 70-degree temperature. I use the Go2 really a lot and is one of my favorite action cameras.
Had my action 2 couple of weeks at its got a loose connection between the battery and camera units so I can't record to the SD card.. been waiting two days for a reply from dji about a replacement
So their support is also getting worse... Fingers crossed to have this sorted out sooner rather than later.

Mihail, thanks for your reply. Yesterday I tried the Action 2 in the ocean. I am disappointed. It seems to switch itself off when I go underwater, the screen is reactive. The colors, and the blues especially seem unnatural.
I shot a video with Hero 10 and Hero 8, but I left them on and the battery died. SO I used Action 2. If the return window was still open I would just send it back. In the water for hours, sometimes a battery is not enough. The Hero 10 footage looks always amazing, as you said, easy to grade. The edges of the Action 2, being so wide are distorted. I shot in 1080p, given that the battery life is so short and the storage on the camera module so little. I would have been happier with a second Hero 10, which has never leaked, it seems to have a better door than the Hero 8, the hydrophobic lens cover works great. Too many RUclipsrs pumped the DJI Action 2. The original Osmo Action was more balanced. The only positives for me are the small camera size and the completely sealed camera module. The original Osmo Pocket and Osmo Action produced more pleasing footage. I may fiddle with the settings, D-Cinelike, but I may just sell it at loss.
Totally agree with you. But - did you try the screen lock function?I believe it can help a lot with such occasions.
As for the colors... maybe if you set the auto balance manually, it may improve a bit, but I also find GoPro footage to be much easier to enjoy without much of adjusting.

How bad is the overheating? Does it shut down while recording in 2k 60 fps? I'm planning to get one for moto vlogging, I think the wind may help with the heating(not sure though). Do you think it is worth it for 192$ USD (power combo) ?
The price is great, go for it. You probably won't get any heat-related troubles.

What exposure values, ISO ranges, shutter speed are you using for lit and low lit envs
I mostly use d-cinelike and auto if no filters involved. Auto settings for low light too
I also use the same, but video quality of my Action 2 isn't upto the mark even at 4K @@TechMishka

Not possible. You need a 360-degree camera for that purpose.

I picked up my action 2 with the battery module for around 100$. I think the action 2 is far superior then the Insta go 2 and go 3. Not only does it the Action 2 do everything that the Go cameras can do but they have more recording modes, its made out of better materials and more modular then the Insta, and you can use just the camera with the screen. Most importantly the Action 2 image quality is far superier than the insta go 2 and 3. Not only can it go wider it can also shoot in D- Cinelike for light color grading. Overheating wise this was mostly solved with a firmware update and a plastic cover. When im wearing or attaching the Action 2 the heavier weight of the device is not that big of a deal compared to the Insta Go, i mean they are both significantly small and lightweight respectively. I don't see the actions 2 as a fail at all. I think its still the winner of this category and i look forward to a refresh of the form factor down the line.

Hi. you can order a case for free directly from DJI. It will be recognize from the cam automatically and add a lot of time for filming. Yesterday i filmed around 30 min with a fpv drone with 60 fps. No sign of overheating or shutting down anymore.

If Insta360 does not come out with an upgraded GO3 then I think I might get the Action 2. I love the small form factor and the magnetic a accessories. Good review.

@@limitlesssama2014 I bought the GO3 but I am having issues. When I connect the GO3 to my iPhone and try to transfer the videos over, connection keeps dropping. I never had this issues with the GO2 or any of my other Insta360 cameras. Are you having this issue???

It is worth it if you.plan to use it underwater or for filming some crazy angles.
Overheating is the main drawback to me. Traveling to high temperature countries (such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippine) will make this action camera only lasts around 10-13 minutes with basic 1080p 60 fps. My iPhone 13 can do much more than that.

It’s been heavily discounted recently, dual screen combo for 319€ here in France. I even get 80€ cashback, making it 240€ only.
I am waiting in the US for the price to drop a bit. 519 USD is a bit too much for this.

There’s been an open bug for > 5 months or so that prevents the webcam feature from working on MacOS. I have doubts on DJIs ability to fix bugs in a timely fashion

Maybe not. With a 1" sensor you have much less depth of field. The DJI Pocket 3 has a 1" sensor and it has to have autofocus. The creates a whole level of bother for shooting, and in fact focus breathing on that camera is pretty bad. All 1" cameras need to have autofocus. They are then no longer "action"cam in some sense, as the focus has a hard time keeping up with the action. The current action cameras have very wide lenses and small sensors so there is a very large depth of field and no need to shut focusing.
Now This action camera is available under 15k in India. Should I buy or not….?

Maybe someone already commented on this (I have not read the comments), but you are completely wrong about incompatibility with GoPro accessories. A two-pronged magnetic mount comes standard with the camera and that fits *all* GoPro accessories. I do not understand what you are saying. I also do not understand your beef with the codecs - you can choose between H265 and H264, right? What else is there that is missing?
Not having 4K for the Go 2 or Go3 is a big deal. Just about every camera now and in the past few years shoots 4K. 4K looks clearly better than 2.7K, and besides you cannot even shoot 2.7K 60p on the Go 2 or Go 3 - you have to go down to 1080. 1080! And 60P is essential for action. Shooting 4K 120P is a big deal - 4K super slow motion is a particularly valuable for action.
The non-removable storage size on the Go 2 and 3 cameras is exactly the same as that in the Action 2 camera, except with the Action 2 camera alone you have an lcd so you can actually see what you are shooting. The Go 2 and 3 are great for surveillance video - just attach them to something and let it shoot whatever happens. The Action 2 is for choosing how to frame a video, which is pretty essential for videography, right?
Your night shots are way overexposed, with blowouts everywhere. The camera can do better at night than what you show (set EV much lower), but in fact digital stabilization is hopeless at night because you need high shutter speeds, and thus very high ISO's. I agree the sensor size and pixel density are better than those of the GoPro, which provides an advantage in din light, but not enough to make night video acceptable. Your night videos clearly used a low frame rate and low shutter speed, and you can see jitters from the motion blur. Motion blur and digital stabilization do not work together. Increase the shutter speeds and the high ISO's that result make for blurry and noisy night video. DJI Pocket 3 can work well at night - no digital stabilization, so ne can use low shutter speeds with no damage.
This is the quality provided by the camera with the firmware that was current back then. DJI did a good job with it.

@markr041 This is what i was thinking - granted the Go 3 does come with a case now with a screen on it so you can see what you are recording BUT you get a lot of modular options with the DJI Action 2 also AND you can expand the memory using memory cards, you cant on either of the insta go cameras... the 128gb insta go with the case is around £360 and the DJI action 2 with 32gb dual screen combo is available now for around £211 OR you can pick up the upgraded 128gb version with power module for £311!
I agree with most of your points. I am a bit disappointed by the Action 2:
- the field of view is way too wide, even if you have a subject in the foreground, everything else looks so pushed back, unnaturally.
- in lower light, I get so much rolling shutter jello, that the footage is unusable.
- for the price, it should have 128GB or at least 64GB of internal memory.
I bought it discounted, I then went to see my family in Italy for almost 3 weeks, I was over the 30-day return policy. Probably I would have returned it.
I like the waterproofness without a slot.
But overall I like the GoPro Hero10 a lot better, the colors are more natural and not overly contrasty, less jello effect.
I lost the magnetic lanyard, but anyway it does not inspire confidence. The camera falls off too easily from it.
Also, I kept the battery module inside a backpack during a rainstorm. it did not get wet, but it did not recognize any SD card in the slot, until after I kept it overnight in a dehumidifying box.
Many RUclipsrs hype any new product.
I wish the lens in the Action 2 was less wide and the images less contrasty
Stefano, I've always admired your precision about analyzing these cameras and totally agree with your points. I also find the ultra-wide angle a little weird. COuld be that DJI wanted to attract vloggers by going that wide.
And am happy to hear about the color science. Lately I had the feeling like I'm the only one who doesn't like DJI's colors that much. No matter whether I use their LUTs or not - it is somewhat strange to color grade. While GoPro is a charm... 😎
I lost you on GoPro colors looks more natural... GoPro's have unnatural extremally saturated colors, it appeals to most audience because harsh colors make everything look cute or whatever, just like in cartoons, yea people fall for it... gopro knows what to put their marks on and they have good marketing that's all, I'm personally will never buy a go-pro.

Insta 360 Go2 overheats in no time dude so another bit of misinformation on your part. Go2 is a good camera, but the battery life is crap. On board storage is 32g, but really more like 22g and it has no external screen. You have to make your best guess with a phone app and then start filming. You never really know what you will end up with. The phone app is a pain in the a$$ and the Go2 is $299 and I just paid he same price for the DJI Action 2 on sale.
Many universal accessories are compatible with this camera.
True that. Not as many as there are for GoPro though.
My Sony FDRX3000 simply crushes the Action 2 and the Gopro 10 at low light. And the Sony was released in 2016.
as far as I remember it has OIS - so - no surprise it is significantly better at low light

It's not too heavy for FPV Drones. I don't know what kind of FPV drone experience you have dude, but that's a flat out lie. People mount GoPro 10 on FPV drones. Maybe since you are not in the US you are talking about 249 grams drones or less, but most 2.5" Cinwehoops will carry this camera no problem and obviously anything bigger will carry it as well. Let's not spread misinformation.

I have it also and I dont recommend it. The overheating is actually a big problem. 4k 60fps barely makes it too 6 minutes of recording before overheating. Yes, normally you only shoot a few minutes at a time but when you are on holiday walking around on a sunny day, you will definitely keep running into it and have to wait for it to cool down. Not ideal for that price.
This is indeed annoying issue... I Guess if you go for sports with motion - it can cool off by the wind 😎
There was a fix for reducing overheating and extending shooting - a free thermal case. Still you cannot shoot for very long clips.

I also prefer GoPro in terms of colors. Also - prefer the form factor.

Don't buy if you have Galaxy s22, s22+, or s22 ultra. When you say dji has "timely firmware updates" you mean IPHONE ONLY.
The firmware updates are for the camera, not for the smartphones...
