I recently made the switch to the 24 GLS 580, fully loaded in MANUFAKTUR Alpine Gray, after parting ways with my 2023 BMW X7 M60i. Prior to the X7, I had been driving a 22 GLS 450. The decision to trade my 22 GLS 450 was primarily driven by style preferences and the very higher mileage on my GLS when trading it in. Returning to Mercedes-Benz, albeit the larger engine this go around, was a choice I made for several reasons, but foremost among them was the superior ride quality and the ergonomic layout of controls. While the X7 may have a slight edge in terms of speed, I've come to truly appreciate the well-composed ride of the MB GLS 580 and its notably more comfortable front seats. It's a distinction that may not be immediately evident in RUclips reviews, but it becomes significant during extended journeys and actual ownership. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz outshines BMW in terms of front seat comfort and massage functionality. The range of adjustment options for the massage positions and cushion settings on the MB is simply impressive. I would strongly advise anyone considering these vehicles to embark on a comprehensive test drive to experience these aspects firsthand. Hands down the MB has much more comfortable front seats. Both BMW and Mercedes-Benz have their challenges when it comes to control interface placement. However, Mercedes-Benz gets the upper hand when it comes to straightforward adjustments for cabin temperature and radio settings, thanks to its physical buttons with a tactile feel. Additionally, the MB's screen is positioned a couple of inches closer, or more, a seemingly small detail that proves highly advantageous during interstate travel when quick control adjustments are needed. Having accumulated over 24,000 miles on the 23 X7 M60i I just trade for the GLS 580 and more than 67,000 miles on my previous 2022 GLS 450, the moment I laid eyes on the refreshed 24 GLS 580, I knew I was returning to Mercedes-Benz for compelling reasons: 1. **Ride Quality**: The superior ride comfort of the GLS 580. 2. **Seat Comfort**: The significantly more comfortable front seats and roomier middle row. 3. **Control Placement**: The intuitive placement of controls for ease of use. Despite the slightly higher price tag on my 24 GLS 580, $125,000 compared to $109,000 for the 23 BMW X7, the advantages I've mentioned above make it a premium well worth paying. For me, a refined ride and comfort matter. The dealer offered me $90K on my 2023 with almost 24K miles, so I traded it without hesitation for the newly refreshed GLS 580. One more detail, I had to replace the tires on the X7 before trading it for over $2K with only 20K miles on the them; in comparison, I replaced the tires on my 22 GLS at 50K miles! One feature I wish Mercedes-Benz would adopt from BMW is the integrated BMW key in my Apple Wallet, eliminating the need for a physical key fob. This technology is incredibly convenient and would be a welcome addition to MB's lineup.
Hi. I'm waiting for my 2024 X7 to be built and while I like its styling, features, etc more than the GLS, there's one issue that it is giving me LOTS of second thoughts about buying the X7: the A/C. I live in South Florida were in summer it gets super hot and humid and a strong A/C is a must. I've done EXTENSIVE (I mean, OCD level) research, in person with a few brand new X7s at dealers and also online in BMW forums, about the X7 weak blow A/C system. When testing the system in person, I feel the A/C temperature gets cold enough, but the amount of blown air from the vents is super weak. When reading online comments from 2023-2024 X7 owners, opinions are very divided. Some people say they have no issues (even living in hot climates) and some say they hate how weak the A/C is. Can you give me your impression of the A/C on the X7 while you had it?. Do you live in a hot climate?. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for sharing that as this is exactly what I've been trying to figure out - suspension and front seats comfort. Hey, I'd gladly watch a full review of both from you. Thanks again!
This is a comparison that needed to take place. It's safe to say that both are really fighting for the trophy and although my vote goes to the BMW, there is no true loser.
I like how the GLS’s seat controls are on the door, It’s much easier to see what you’re pressing rather than fumbling around under the seat to adjust it.
The GLS is way better in my opinion. Even the fact that it is more spacious makes it the better choice as that is one of the crucial aspects of a full size suv.
X7 All day! And, like I said before on the GLS short, the BMW X7 is better in almost every way - Better MPG, cheaper, 3 year complementary maintenance, and much better driving dynamics. I know not only from personal experience, but also from Consumer Reports that NEW BMWS (2019+) are much more reliable than Mercedes-Benz’s cars.
GLS looks 10x better, from the exterior, to the interior. Even the key fob is much more aesthetic. The dashboard gauges on the BMW are intentionally ugly just to be different. The triangles above the side HVAC vents say “the designer ran out of ideas, here’s some shapes to fill a void”. It’s like BMW hates beauty now.
@@JohnDoe-vh4rt I liked the look of the old X7 a lot more - though I and many others like the new X7 a lot more even Witt the changes than the GLS. Looks are a preference, the other statements I made are facts. As a E90 BMW owner, they definitely went downhill on the design.

The one thing everyone has missed is the X7 has no way to turn off start/stop. That is a deal killer for us. Apparently you can put the X7 in sport mode to defeat this, but there is no button like on the GLS.

Gls looks classier , rolls royce style. Slightly old but gold. X7 looks like Chinese 😅
Drives like a rolls royce too .. x7 looks small , hardly any room for luggage with all seats up ..
x7 looks better. the Mercedes looks boring
You are totally right, X7 great for the youth. Grownups will rather MB for all obvious reasons you’ve mentioned.
nice video
X7 is my car
I think I like the GLS a little better although bmw gives you a little more. Also I’ll admit bmw did a better job of making the x7 feel like a 7 series than Mercedes did making the GLS feel like an S class. Except in the amg fit and finish
Great review fellas!
Thanks for watching!
Definitely the X7
some interesting comments here. I need a 3rd row so a bit disappointed with both the X7 and GLS. It looks tight. I do like the sportier look of the X7 but the comment reg comfort, massage chairs of the GLS has me confused. Damn
X7 40 d anyday
All in all i would take the mercedes. It looks much better in the inside and outside it looks nicer to me as well.
X7 all the way
I would love to see comparison of Bmw X7 M60 with Cadillac Escalade, if you guys can work on it
8:35 you can option power sunshades on the Merc
Thank you for the video, I was happy to find a very recent comparison of these two vehicles!
We traded our Mercedes ML400 for a GLC 300 when our kids started university. We thought the two of us would happier with a smaller suv. We were wrong! So now we are considering either the GLS or the X7. I am leaning towards the X7, I REALLY dislike the gear selector on our Mercedes.
@@Commonsense4Life I don't know why they put the gear selector on the column, it makes no sense. Everyone complains about it and it's the main reason I'm considering a BMW.
Quick question guys can you get the 2023 gle and x5 petrol with seven seats want somthing a little cheaper 😂
Both of them can be specially ordered with small third row seats but are not usually equipped that way
@@CarConfections thanks for the info guys
X7!
BMW takes it
Bmw x7
I love Mercedes but the technology in it just need to be upgraded so I'm going to have to go for the X7 especially with their heated third row seats yes
Heated 3rd row is available on the GLS as well - just wasn’t specced on this one. No point in comparing vehicles that aren’t like for like.
I believe the higher noise in GLS test car had to do with the tires.
Did you say the X7 had no spare tire or it wasn't in the back but under the vehicle? No spare is a no buy here.
I like the older grill on gls
I’ll take the x7 ❤
German Machines❤🎉
I’m getting the X7 ❤
Hi, do you have any issues with the A/C system being weak on the X7?. Which model year do you have?. Thanks.
Oops
Please do range test in 2024 Bmw x5 plug-in electric ⚡️
I prefer the exterior look of the GLS
I got a 2025 x7 last month
It’s the Benz for me.
This helped us make our decision. Thank you!
Glad we could help!
what did you buy :)
@@akankshatripathi4811 We're planning on the GLS. I'm not ready to give up my XC90 yet. She still has some life left in her.
The GLS 63, no doubt...
X7 all day long😊
