I finally went to the cemetery in December 2023 after it hadn't worked out the year before due to time constraints. I was overwhelmed by the size, the atmosphere and the many graves and monuments - and the stories behind them. I spent a long time at the cemetery, but didn't see everything by far. The next time I'm in Dublin, the cemetery will be on my list again.
England really owes Ireland a profound apology. The wrong they did can never be righted. So many brave men and women who gave their life for Ireland in Glasnevin should NEVER be forgotten. God Bless Ireland
I visited this cemetery last week and I was blown away by the size of it. Amazing graves, such history and so so many bodies buried. A truly amazing place. Great video
miki York is it true you are charged €25.00 euro for the tour of this wonderful cemetery . I hoping one day to visit and honour the dead who gave their life for Ireland in wars and rebellions and other particulars that occurred in life
I just found this youtube video. By a strange coincidence I was actually in Dublin on by second trip to Ireland and visited GLASNEVIN the day after this video posted!!!
This was a beautifully done video. It was well worth my time watching. I plan to visit next year in 2022 when I bring my family back to Ireland. I can't wait!
Hahaha. That used to be my dad's favourite joke every time he passed a cemetery. "There's the dead centre of town! " He's been dead a while now, but that phrase always makes me smile.
I visited the cemetery in 2016 and to say I was mind blown would be an understatement.surrounded by so much history and going into Daniel o connells tomb was very educational
I was there recently refreshing my parents grave marker which had gotten very dishevelled looking. But walking through the cemetery you can't help but to stop and look at some of the very Ye Olde graves and read the inscriptions on them One thing that is very obvious on many of the graves from the early 19 th century and onward's was how young people were when they died. I saw one sad grave marking whereby a father and husband lost his wife and his six children, all at very young ages . His wife in her 20's and his children aged from 2 months to 7 years of age all dying one after the other but not in that order, and he lived into his early 60's . What that poor man went through is truly unbelievable.. Many adults died in their early 40's to early 50's. You see very few that lived till their 70's to 80's . Children in those days died from diseases that we can cure with one visit to the doctor nowadays and most children being inoculated at an early age from those diseases like Whooping cough, measles, T.B, Scarlet fever etc etc etc.
This is my favourite cemetery of all. I'm so proud of my own family members who fought for the freedom of Ireland from the British oppressors. Every time I visit, I find new graves so many fascinating graves. Glasnevin is beautifully tended.

I dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Michael Jefferson i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Two of my ancestors were part of the Repeal with O'Connell,... The well known Charles Gavin Duffy and the lesser known, his uncle, Fr Thomas Tierney who is buried there
EXCELLENT⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘ place to visit and the great extra is you can visit irelands Botanical Gardens🥀🌷⚘🌹🏵🌻 at the same time as there is a beautiful walkway between both cemetery and gardens
Great video was there last year but never told of the lesser people like Luke and Brendan and many others . My son and.I go to Dublin every year but sadly this year a complete writh off
I was fascinated with this video, some great history. Iv been there twice and even done a video at Graces grave. Iv took the tour and it was well worth it. Thanks for sharing this deep insight of history.
Have to the highlight of my trip was a visit to see irelands crossword champions grave,,...hes beside Michael Collins grave its about 7down and 3 across

Thomas Barry Sullivan was not English. Both his parents were Irish. Why would he be buried in Ireland if he was English? BTW at 14:06 the barrister is not Michael Collins but Pádraic Pearse.
"Countess" Markiewicz's first name was Constance, not Georgina. Although she continues to be referred to as "Countess", her husband did not actually hold a comital title.
My 3rd Great Grandfather Thomas Glynn is buried there in a multiplot 07 March 1883 is when he died and lived at 87 Prussia Street Dublin married Sarah Jane Scott In Derrykeighan in Antrim 09 Feb 1857 Thomas was 45 years of age died from consumption i wish i could find his date of birth and birth location i think is Bullaun Galway and i think his parents were Patrick Glynn and Mary Tannyan 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This is a amazing production for a amateur video producer I assume. Blending in the right music with the perfect amount of silence and informative voice over narration. However, the narrator needs to spit a bit more frequently as it sounds like his mouth is packed with saliva thats rolling off his lips and into his lap, covering the microphone used in a layer of liquid. lol.. I can hear it so strongly I had to say as if that aspect was cleaned up this would be considered a Hollywood product.
Thank you for your comment. I will check the video and see if that issue is obvious on my computer. Usually, my narrator gets high ratings for the quality of his voice.
De Valera didn't lead the Antitreaty side he was very much on the periphery of the republican leadership,he was more involved in the political side of it.
Apparently Collins was Director of Intelligence of "the Rebels". HAHAHA They avoided using the name Irish Republican Army when talking about Collins and the guerilla war.
What a powerful documentary.....
Delighted that you enjoyed the documentary. David

It's way too late for an apology, what they done cannot be forgiven by Irish people.

Del Boy Duffy never misses a marketing trick... he brought his own book to his Glasnevin protest.
Outstanding video!

Nanny and grandad is buried there
What took 50 years? The assessment done in 1971 suggested a quick repair.
I suppose it's fitting to be 'shrouded' in mystery.

we.ll be long enough in the cemetery
Behan's statue - 'Royal' (not Grand) Canal. Probably mixed up with Kavanagh's? Kearny's "Amhrann na b'Fiann/Soldier's Song" 'national' (not state) anthem.
Thank you for the corrections. I would prefer not to have any errors. David
Statuette in the centre circle of Behan's gravestone was robbed .people sometimes leave drink or whiskey glasses there.
I am sure Brendan would approve of the donation!

Clearly you don't know Irish history. He wasn't a unionist.
