Thanks for all of your support!
Thanks for all your time and the free plans. I bought a kit from you, but the shipping I think was more than the kit, so I appreciate all the free plans. I can't get 4mm foamboard in the UK, but I simply modify the plans for 5mm.
I found me a friend that loves to fly and has a laser cutter, any kit I want I just ask him to cut for me. Far better than hand cutting everything.
Great video guys! Peter your doing a great job, and seem more comfortable with the Flite Test format now! I've been subscribed to Peter's channel for about 2yrs since I first saw one of his vids! Very talented young man with great imagination, and creativity, as demonstrated by his project choices, love the VTOL! It was very wise of Flite Test to bring Peter onboard! As always I'm a big fan of the new life that Flite Test has brought to our Wonderful Hobby! Showing newer modelers how to get started, with a low investment, "Which I'm all about bang for the buck", and all the great ways to use the awesome new materials, and techniques that we have now! My favorite new Technologies are the Brushless Motors, and Battery Technology improvements, the weight savings and run times are a dream come true! There's nowhere to go but up!
More and more surprised and happy with Flite Test videos !!!!! By far, the best EVER RC planes videos IN THE WORLD !!! PURE FUN, this is the real RC Plane spirit !!!
Thank you very much for this video. I was hoping to watch this one before putting together my storch. The paint techniques really help out! Thanks for being awesome!
The best model of all time! the world's best! Simply the best yet! Thank so much! Flite Test =)
I can definitely vouch for the FT Forums!
A real wealth of knowledge and experience!!!
Special Thanks to Josh Bixler for your excellent instructional skills, which parallel those of some of the best on camera Professionals I've seen! Your ease of explaining even the most Tech related aspects of this great hobby, in layman's term, is a serious bonus for all watching! You demonstrate great knowledge of the principles of flight and convey that knowledge in a very humble way, without going off topic! It's like having a conversation with your Flight buddies in the garage at the build table, and very relatable, and easy to understand! I've got to mention Josh Scott so he doesn't feel left out, Ha Ha! He was instrumental in helping Bixler become comfortable on camera in the beginning, and his ease on camera demonstrates why his Church is blessed to have him! He also has learned such a great deal, so quickly, that it encourages new pilots to join the fun! Josh Scott your blessed to have access, to such a great knowledge pool and the really cool equipment and great personalities! You all Click very well as a team, and it shows on camera, no matter how many takes, you need to get it the way you want! Keep up the great work, and thank you very much! Always Look For The Good and Praise It! :)
My Storch is almost finished. Was waiting for this video before I decided what wing configuration to go with. Thanks Flite Test!
Go flaperons!! :)
Alex Zvada Thanks, I will be for the first wing! I'm going to build a second wing with Ailerons and Flaps. Eventually I will make the removable slats to work with both wings. I want it all!!! :P
It should help people, nice little Quick Tips! Simple and to the point, just remember, experiment first on scrap pieces take your time and learn that its a process that take some time to master, PATIENCE lol which is not 100% there all the time!
Thanks guys!
Ed
I would agree with that Ed. It's not difficult but it isn't as easy or as quick as it looks. I've been meaning to watch that video so thanks for the reminder.
Great episode Josh and Peter. I had to rewatch the video to catch up those gimbal knobs were distracting lol.
I don't understand the dislikes of Flite Test videos. Why would you?
I know right
this simple design philosophy is not for everyone - I don't imagine it deserves a dislike but I am one of those hobbyists who appreciates the sexiness of aerodynamic structures which they complete dismiss with their faceted, flat plate, draggy designs which are basically evolutions of box type cardboard models, that said they do wonders in introducing absolute novices and noobs to constructing your own model and hopefully from this will emerge some talented builders who make real model airplanes
Because people miss the like button since they are using an iPhone
I love these custom builds. This is my favorite yet. Keep them coming! I'd love to see something different like a micro park flyer or another twin prop
Love the slats. I remember reading about the ME109 German fighter had automatic leading edge slats. I don't doubt for a minute you guys could implement them in foam :)
Tell Peter thank you on the paint tips very helpful my sister just ordered this plane for me
What's the deal with first second how cares
Hey I just spotted David hanging with the Hobby King guys in their latest video promo for their Festival of Flight in England!
I'm not sure you guys will see my comment or not but I have a suggestion is that hoping you guys will create an application for smartphones to view flitetest forum. I love all the work of you guys and it is awesome! Keep up the good work I wish to view the forum and articles through apps but not by using phone browser which is so hard to read because flitetest do not have a mobile website. Thank you!
Could Peter do a Depron build guide? Not only is it a superior material but for some of us its all that we can get.
In particular modifications to the plans and build methods that you need to make in order to build with Depron.
It doesn't have to be specifically for the Storch. Just covering this off once for all your plans would be enough.
I have parked in my yard a real Storch, ok it's a smaller replica called a Marabou Stork but very scale two seater with a lycoming up front and finished in Rommel's famous Afrika Korps color scheme, she has very similar stol qualities and handling to the real Fieseler machine and is a great study of how to cheaply but neatly and convincingly replicate design features like the full span slats, fowler flaps (with 40 degrees of deflection at max) and the complex and 'storky' landing gear as well as the balanced elevators and rudder which have been scaled down for better handling since the Marabou has a lower wing loading. With the large wooden fixed pitch prop and exhaust arrangement she even sounds growly like the real thing. The FT Storch is a novel approach that I am sure attracts the less experienced builders and pilots but with some simple modifications and finishing it can look more scale and fly more like the full size.
Josh can you guys offer a printable pdf drawing of all the window decals. So we can make our own at home? Not just this plane but all of them? Thanks. Thanks for all you guys do
As always...loving the episodes. But puh-lease talk slower when you are going through your directions. It seems like you're going a million mph. It's soo much more enjoyable to enjoy the steps to building an awesome model.
Keep up the fantastic work, guys!
Please design a PA-18 SUPER CUB next. Thanks guys keep up the great work!
I've used Krylon Dual on directly on foam planes and your speed build kit. Namely the Apprentice S 15e, Pandora and the Mini Guinea. On the Mini Guinea the foam was fine by my first coat was too much and the paper delaminated.
really hope they make a mini storch.
You should do a build on the a-10. Maybe a speed build and build video. I just thought that would be a really cool and fun project.
I would like to see an expanded session on control surface mixing. 1. Mixing Rudder to Ailerons. 2. Mixing Elevator to Flaps. Can I see the coordinated action of the surfaces involved, what does it do to the plane in flight (Demenstrated on the ground).
This just made me want to build swappable again...
Thanks a lot
Where do you get those blue gimbals on the Dx8 from? They look nice :D
I want to see a kraken gunship revisit. By the way, your theory on why the airsoft gun didn't penatrate the foam is wrong. It would have been correct if you were shooting at an unmoving target, but the second kraken was moving at the same speed as the first, so the canceling out would have been uncanceled out. Next time, use paintball guns so if you hit a prop, it'll break and your kraken will crash. I want Josh Bixler flying one kraken and Josh Scott shooting backward as his gunner. Then, I want Chad flying another kraken, this one with it's gun pointing forward, with Peter as his gunner. Also if you could mount both guns on a pan and tilt, that would be awesome.
paintball guns are waaayy to heavy a airsoft gun that shoots at higher fps should do fine
I would rename this - "Modifying Your Plane" - because this could apply to many planes
Thanks Peter for helping!

Jimmy, ARRL TS, WX9DX
you didnt show how to mix the aileron and rudder
WOW Josh talks so fast In this video. I gotta watch when I can pause and take notes.
Chad would cry if he saw you cut popsicle sticks with a wire cutter!
Peter's tip section was really well done, great job :)
another option for the wing would be to use flaps and ailerons, the 4 servo setup, and then program your radio to mix the flaps with the ailerons when you want full span aileron control. This is the setup I plan to use when I build a storch. It allows normal flap and aileron operation but you can hit a switch and turn on the full-span aileron (like flaperons) effect whenever you want it.
Epoch Vessel I thought about that too. Instead of using a Y-harness to split the signal for two servos, you could just use a channel for each servo - if your receiver support that many.
That is a great idea friend. You get the best of both worlds then. Please share you experience when you try this.
Great stuff guys
I am going to build a storch as a trainer as I have built your FT flyer but want to know should I start with out any flaps or ailerons or should I install the flaperons and try to fly from there?
Hey are you guys going to the UK to visit David he is at the hobby king flight festival
Peter or Josh,
when spray painting do I need to use the minwax first?
great job, I have built one of your models, and it is brutal ... do you come to Spain with your products? I would like to buy a kit that you prefabricate, but I do not know in what state it will arrive in my country. Thank you for your work.
You can also use" krylon shortcuts" its foam safe . Also have to say , I still love flite test but its just not the same anymore, it's missing that spontaneity and personal feel . Not hate in just sayin we want the old flite test.
nice info ! ! you should do more of these vids ....
i been useing rust-oleum in a can,not a spray can,and a foan brush and do what peter said light coats, about 4.with me. I seem like i got more contorl ,then with a spray can, ever body is diffent
i forgot to say allway use a test piece frist
What was that Canard plane in the background?!?!?
New swappable maybe, I'm a fan.
Good eye! I saw that too. If you listen to the Flite Test podcast from last week you would know. ;)
It is the Kyushu J7W Shinden (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyushu_J7W). Will be the third release in the warbird series.
I also spied a mini Twin Cargo and mini Storch in this episode too. :)
Thanks for the heads up man.
i''ll have to check that out.
Bixler 3 review!
Oh...Iove Rc Flite.
I'm curious on the duster video where you made it to look like the one form the movie. How did you get the paint perfect on that? Is it paint or was that a cover?
Will u guys do a build on the boxcar from the planes episode? I have no idea how it goes together. Thanks!
Could you guys review more of the air core planes?
keep lovin the luftwaffle
I want to put floats on my Champ RC for use in the snow. What do you recommend I do? Build some, or buy a set for a different plane?
I think it would of been nice to enplane how to mix the rudder and ailerons. I would not have a problem doing this but the average beginner would have a hard time doing this.
RCflyer729 Biggest problem is that it's different for every transmitter. If you know how to do that, you could try and create a howto video on here :)
I am a new subscriber and I was wondering how do I get plans to build the planes that you are offering.?

Click on the link for "Free Build Plans"
It's called slots...
What’s the flite time?
Would love to buy the SS kit, but I'm in the UK and the shipping costs more than the kit. Any plans for a UK/EUROPE supplier?
Ste1985zz There are plans to provide at least the Adams Readi-Board all over the world. There are also rumors that someone is thinking about finding distributors for the Speed Build Kits...
queria a planta desse aeromodelo sou Brasileiro so muito fã de voces , poderiam desponibilisar essa planta para
Is flite test going to make an awesome canard plane next: 11:21
why haven't you guys done the waterproofing tape tutorial yet? D:
I think a video for tips of putting scratch build plans onto foam board is much needed. I can never get my plans to line up just right :/ please Help!
Nice video but still waiting for the bix 3 can't waits. :)
can u guys do a vid on the supercub s and putting fpv on it
Why does it cost a ridiculous amount of money to ship the decals to the UK ? A simple envelope and letter mail would surely do.
Also, any UK importers of the speed build kits ?
Thanks
netdudeuk The crew is working on making the original Adams foam board accessible all over the world and - I think - is testing a retailer / distributor setup in Canada. But I'm not sure about a "base" in Europe.
Fix shipping to Australia too while you're at it.
We ship decals in boxes to keep them from creasing. We have solutions coming soon friend. Thank you for your support!
OMG plz I don't like waiting up to 2 months for my FliteTest products D: Help Australia. If you can't fast track shipping, at least convince a store in Australia to get Adam's foam :'( I dun wanna play $10 a sheet D:
Josh Bixler Thanks Josh
AYANT EN PROJET LA CONSTRUCTION DU MINI CORSAIR EXISTE T IL DES STICKERS DE DÉCORATION. MERCI
I have a little quadcopter can you make something similer and make it better?
Terrific!
Where can we get those large blue sticks we see on his radio?
NOTAM Google for "Transmitter Thumb Stick". There are different versions depending on the size of your sticks - they differ from company to company.
2 things:
1. My laser cutter can only fit a3 paper foam in it. What do I do to get the whole plain done?
2. All the files are in PDF. Why??? None of my laser cutting tools use PDF :(
HornbyCrazy 1. I'm sorry. I have no idea. Splitting the plans into A3 might not work since you will have to glue criticall components like the wings. I'm not sure if they are stable enough that way.2. PDF is easier to exchange with others. All PDFs contain vector data, so you can import them into tools like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape to convert them into anything you want. The plans are made for printing templates that are then cut with a blade since not many people have a lasercutter - yet. ;)Also most lasercutter companies have their own tools and require different source files, so it would be difficult to provide them for everyone.
Will what I seen is the video come in the kit? The window decal how much are they? I'm 68 and retired and on a fixed income. Any help would be great.
Jack Carpenter the window decal cost me around $8.00 shipped, I believe it's around $4.50 without shipping.
How are you shipping those Decal? I live about 100 miles from you and I think the sipping a little high.
Jack Carpenter I picked mine up off the ft store under aircraft accessories. $4.00 for the decal
I want to make a 48" wingspan for my slow stick can you show how ?
DO more videos with multirotors and blackout. Do more racing with multirotor
hazcoper Seriously? Just after everyone was mad at the FT crew because there was too much multirotor content? Please let everyone have their share of content :)
can I ask what accessories your have on the controller gimbles and are they compatible with my JR9503?
miss David
Will the flaperon setting on the DX6/DX6i work on any planes?
I would like to see them build a G bee racer out of foam
Hey Flight Test. what work tables do you guys use? Brand of and where to buy.
They wooden tops are from ikea, and the workbench underneath are just cheapo from any hardware store..
Thanks!!
Go Peter!!!
i spray painted the wing of the plane but i had to stop becouse when the paint dried it made the wing look almost hairy becouse of the fibers on the foamboard ;(
sand the wing with a fine grit sand paper lightly on the wing
I need help with my quad-copter, how do I mount my motors onto the frame if the screws that came with the motors aren't long enough to go through the frame and the motor? Do I need to get longer screws? And if so, what size and where from? Thanks
You can hold a motor down with zip ties??!! are they strong enough?
Red Sailor I am using zip ties too on my quad. I've used the "mounting plate / cross" that was in the motor pack, broke two wings off and used the two remaining ones to zip-tie it on the boom. Other people used a small piece of aluminium plate about as wide as a boom (and about as thick as the mounting plate) and used the mounting plate as a template to mark two drill holes. Then just use two zip-ties like before. You can always use longer screws too, but make sure they are not too long and extend into the motor because they will block it or cut the copper windings inside. The new "FT method" does something like this, but uses two discs on top and bottom of the boom to attach it. It's called "Simple Motor Mount" in the FT store: store.flitetest.com/simple-motor-mount-discs/
ahhhhhhh I seeeeee, thank you very much! yeh i'll make sure the screws are not too long :)
How much will it cost to ship a speed build kit to the UK
thomas picton Shipping to Europe unfortunately is really expensive. The store estimates about $47.50 to send to the UK. Also you might have to pay additional customs too.
Thanks
I want to join the forum but I have no idea on this "What is the second word in title of the show: Flite Test"
Does Flite test sell transmiters?
Shyam Menon Nope, they sell just the basic parts, no electronics.
ok Thanks
fractional metric ?
Did anyone see the canard in the background when the kid was talking about paint. Looks like a Japanese fighter from WWII that was being tested but never used.
where can i buy a blackout quad?
Ethan Wood www.google.com/search?q=blackout+mini+quad&tbm=shop :-)
thank you
Where did you get the paint?
Keyon Vossough My local building center has exactly the same cans just with different labels. And I'm in Germany. So you might be able to find similar ones there.
NICE
How about a supersized vampire
please help me in find a good remote controller which can be programmed as per my need and easy to find it in india!
even though it is thought to get and you would need to order go with spectrum transmitter. you will not regret spending a little more and they are awesome.
i will look into it for sure, thank you!
Detail wird mit T geschrieben
Those gimbals though!
polomarknot17 If you are using your thumbs to control the sticks, search for Transmitter thumb sticks like these: www.omgfly.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=966Just make sure you get the right size :)
were are josh and david
awesomesauce The build and information videos are usually done by one guy only. This time we even got tips by two ;).As far as I know David had to leave the US because his visa ran out.
Josh Scott is shooting with us tomorrow. Davids visa ran out and he is doing amazing things in Sweden. He is a blessing to the hobby and we are grateful for the time we got to spend with him.
david went home and josh does thing for his church,if i recall
While the Storch kit is a nice build - The finishing of this kit is a mess. Sadly I bought the kit with the brown/tan foam board and painting it is a horrible impossible process. I used Lowe's Spray paint (the one recommended by FliteTest, I tried Lowe's satin Latex paint sample (They can match any color if you bring them a sample) And I've tried using an over coat of Water-based Polyurethane . While the Spray paint stick well - they have virtually no color options other than white and black.
So if there is one serious weakness in these kits, it's the ability to give them a realistic finish. Tonight I finished with the decals on the windows and in applying those, my paint pealed off in the areas around the window decal - pulled off by the backing sheet.
I don't know if your new foam board accepts paint any better but unless I can find clear evidence that it does.... I'm through buying your speed build kits. Appreciate the time and effort you all have put into the kits but that foam board is simply not a paint-able product. Yes, I used ultra fine sandpaper, Steel wool, and even tried 90% rubbing alcohol to prep the surface - NOTHING worked. (And finding 90% Rubbing alcohol is impossible nowadays too.)
IF you know of a reliable paint product that permits realistic color options and isn't $$$$ It would really be helpful. As it is I know that the first time this plane gets scuffed up, it will just have to stay that way until it gets retired.
good drf
Ohhhhhhhh, thats what slats do.
Mini Quad Lets Fly...
This is more of a mod video than a quick tip video.... isn't it?
