I am nearly 52 (1972) in Australia and learnt the original song in Prep, in 1977 and is the same as USA kindergarten. Kindergarten here is preschool. We had a student teacher with a guitar and she taught us the original version of this song. I have never forgot the song. I am an atheist but live gospel music and love many church songs for the lovely music only

Yes, but coming from a place of respect, I'm a white atheist and this song is false inspiration...it's rooted in the religion of white supremacist slave masters. Religion and racism are equally regressive and debilitating. When we've colonized Mars, our descendants will be over both, when we can reach other star systems, it won't even matter what continent our genetic forebears came from.

@@AH-qu8my I wasn't asking anything. Christianity was used to subjugate both African slaves as well as Native Americans. The doctrine of Manifest Destiny reinforced the lie that Europeans had the right to the North American territories and that we didn't have any obligation not to disrupt the way of life of the Native inhabitants.
Good example of Christian doctrine where it doesn't belong: Christian boarding schools took it upon themselves to cut Native American boys' long hair short because they thought it was Native Americans' obligation to obey what 1st Corinthians preaches about long hair on men-Long hair is supposedly only for women as a crowning glory but long hair a disgrace to a man.
That's not Native males' tradition. Native males' tradition is to wear their hair as long as their women do and it doesn't matter what the Bible says.
