That goddamn centipede had me ready to quit. It was the only boss battle (not just here but in general) that took me nearly two days and almost gave me an aneurism and I don't know why it was so damn hard for me. I've never gotten more pissed at a video game and it's the only thing stopping me from playing this again. It didn't feel like a victory in the end but I was so happy to have it done with. Even the music, everything about it is pissing me off. Still one of my top 5 games though.
One thing I thought was interesting was that despite most of the voice cast are American actors with the exception of Alice and probably a few of the other actors in this game because the British accents are really spot on in this game and I think the accents in the next game get better sense in London new hear Irish and Welsh accents with the ladder actually being one of the most overlooked accents in American Productions

I remember trying to do a "Vorpal only" attempt and managed to kill all the bosses up to Hatter but Jabberwock was just impossible, it spawned demons faster than I could kill them.
recently played this game, because i got it with Alice Madness return on xbox 360. wish i played the 2000 version a lot sooner ( not in 2018 ) , but i had to experience it before starting with madness returns. old game design etc almost made me quit, but the story made me finish it.
That old game design actually looks better than a lot of nowadays games. Before you judge it, you should think of the time it was released. It was in the year 2000. Maybe it has the most beautiful graphics for that years.
The first time I fought the Duchess, she got me in a stun lock with her stupid pepper grinder multiple times. I started to wonder if there was even a strategy to fight her
I love how many more weapons you get in the first game! Super bummed to get so few weapons in the sequel, the super creative weapons in this game blew my mind as a kid!
I think mostly because McGee's explanation about how the first game was telling about Alice's attempt to heal psychologically, and that means fighting all of her madness. The mini bosses are also based on people that abused her at asylum, as she was treated horribly wrong. And in the sequel, it was telling about Alice's attempt to heal socially after her reputation ruined by an evil doctor. There's no mini boss because people around Alice are still kind enough despite neglectful (the nurse, nanny, lawyer, etc). But Bumby is the source of all madness that she endure, thus Alice unconsciously think that Bumby is the only boss that she need to fight. But I hope that in Alice Asylum, there will be more boss fights. As it was the days where she was just being treated. And I'm sure she was having grudge to some people....
It took my mother *YEARS* to finally beat it lol. We thought that the Queen of Hearts was above this level and she used the grasshopper to try and get on top of the structure! An online guide somewhere also told her to cut off it’s tail. 🙄 Finally, *YEARS* later, I pointed out the bright red spot under its abdomen since I’d had more gaming experience since I watched her play this when I was just 4 years old!

What’s confusing? The red fragments restore health (red bar) and energy (blue bar). The bigger the piece, the more it restores. Some objects only restore one or the other, and those are appropriately color coded. Energy is used for special/magic attacks, like in most games

That goddamn centipede had me ready to quit.
