    Emily Larlham runs the dog training business Dogmantics Dog Training in San Diego, California. She is known around the world for her popular RUclips Channel ‘Kikopup’ where she has posted over 350 free in-depth dog training tutorials. She believes that by putting out free training tutorials that don’t involve any forms of physical or psychological intimidation, it will not only effect how people treat animals but also how people treat other human beings. Emily created the term ‘Progressive Reinforcement Training’ and a training manifesto to describe this way of training in detail.
    Emily began her training career as an animal care-giver in a shelter about 19 years ago where she met her dog training mentor Kyle Rayon. After meeting Kyle, Emily quit her job and became an apprentice. After many years of study, learning from both human and thousands of canine mentors, she began her own business. She combines her artistic background and training skills to invent creative, fast and reliable ways to solve problem behaviors as well as train complex behaviors and tricks. She has been invited to conduct seminars on her techniques for training dogs without intimidation in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. She has also spoken at conferences such as the PPG Summit, Clicker Expo, Clicker Expo Europe, APDT Australia and the Art and Science of Animal Training Conference.

      Nice, thanks for your kindness and sharing this. Blessings.
      ps-I love how you talk through many things as it lets me go back and just play it and listen, it drills in my head all your positivity and it inspires me to go back and play these games. Its great reinforcement and fun. My dogs already know your voice and your dogs, they no longer bark and know its just training. Quite funny really. The only time they barked was when you first got Halo. The using of pup as a name when first getting your dog is actually a good thing in case the pup ever gets away. Keep sharing - caring, prayers to the journey, would love to see videos explaining how these games help service dogs. Blessings.

    Thank you for putting this up. I like how you are direct to the point and talk naturally, without all that unnatural way of speaking and whole click-baity tone some youtubers have. I think that's what makes people come to your channel. Anyway, I've been reading a couple of books and watching some youtube channels preparing for our puppy which will arrive in September. One thing I find lacking in all the material I've been ingesting is WHEN to teach each thing. I have an idea of what to do in the first day but then things get a little blurry on what to teach in the second, third day, then second week, third week, etc. It's like there are a bunch book chapters and youtube videos but they're all scrambled out of order.

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  4 года назад +2

      Well the thing is, all puppies are different and need different training. My latest puppy was not mouthy and completely house trained and great with being left alone, so my focus was on other things, were a puppy that bites hard or barks at you constantly or cant be left alone, those would be the "what to train first" behaviors. But for another puppy it might be not chasing cars or playing with toys instead of chewing your couch and table legs etc. Or perhaps a sniffy beagle pup that wants to jump on the table to eat your dinner, you might jump right into leave it exercises. So basically you get your puppy, and work on the basics, but you might see an issue come up and I suggest jumping right in and working on the issues as they crop up. ruclips.net/video/YF7boyICV7M/видео.html This video goes over the idea of what to train first can be different depending on the dog.

Having a service dog I often have another dog to help training and as the family pet so the video gave me a lot to think about. Hi I just found your channel. Love it! It is very helpful that you are actually working with a puppy that is the age of my puppy. Most trainers are using older dogs that have already been trained several months earlier. you're not actually seeing puppy behavior. Thank you Your dogs are beautiful.

      Thanks. :) However when you break the steps up really small sometimes even an 8 week puppy looks already trained because the steps are broken up where the puppy is able to know what to do as they go.

    My puppy keeps getting distracted by the surrounding environment- we keep her in a pen for training because of that, but the pen’s circular which doesn’t give me much space for luring. If I take her out she’ll immediately go sniff and bite at something (and ignore me)… what should I do? Am I training her wrong?

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  5 месяцев назад

      I suggest beginning with just letting the puppy explore and get satiated with making choices and enjoying exploring. Have some novel toys on hand, if the puppy goes to chew on something thats inappropriate, make a high pitched sound like "pup! pup! Pup!" and then start moving the novel toys around on the floor to get the puppy interested in those. BUt try to encourage the puppy to explore and play with the toys. then when the pup is not so interested in the new place, you can start feeding a treat and then move off fast to gain the puppies interest in wanting to see what you have and follow you. There is this game you can play ruclips.net/video/HiziN7mluz8/видео.html If the pup is full he will not want to be interested in the treats, so make sure that the food isnt left down, after a meal if not finished. Otherwise the puppy will be very full. Try also to use novel treats to see if that gains the puppies interest.

    I am training my 2 year old Aussie that I adopted 2 months ago loose leash without any treat. I now train her everything without any treat. Everything is training. Walk, run, potty, play, ... are all training. Without treat. She is starting to run with me without pulling hard. She was pulling like a crazy maniac when I first adopted her. Her fear aggression against moving object is starting to diminish cause she is now focusing more on me, again without treat. I am her best positive reinforcement. I am her boss and at the same time her best companion. I only use correction and verbal punishment. She knows she needs to earn my love and my love is not unconditional. I feed her very well. I share my own food with her. Just no treat. My only positive reinforcement to her is good girl and some petting. LOL
